Goal Number One Met
klus263 replied to twoboysandagirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I had to buy some new clothes as my jeans was getting to fall down on the floor. I went to the thrift store to find a couple of pair of jeans to tide me over. What a great goal of getting new furniture. Keep up the good work. I am hoping for 175 by Mardi Gras weekend and I may be able to pass that goal with my current rate of losing. -
When I went to my seminar last February, I was planning on the band. My insurance did not cover the sleeve. I had to do 6 months of diet counseling with my PCP so I did not see the surgeon until October. At that time he suggested the sleeve as my insurance was now covering the sleeve. I quickly went home to start my research. After finding this forum and with many other articles, I decided the sleeve was for me. I was sleeved on Dec 1st. I am no longer on any diabetic medication and the day I came home from surgery I weighed 224. This morning I weighed 183.8. I don't think I would have seen this type of result with the band. I feel great and never regretted this decision. Good luck in making the right decision for yourself.

I had been a supervisor in a past life and had to terminated someone. It has to be so much harder when they are a friend. I would not consider this a binge as you still focused on protein first. For me it would have been hot loaf of french bread with a tub of butter---lots of carbs and fat. Hope it wil work out for you.

Norovirus has struck 4 weeks post op
klus263 replied to cludgie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your doctor immediately to see if they can give you anything to help. You do have to be very careful not to become dehyrdrated. I can only imagine what you must be feeling. But I think the best thing for you to do is see your doctor. -
Warning to new sleeves
klus263 replied to hopeandfaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could not even have meat the first 4 weeks post op per our guidelines and it said skin was distressful and to avoid it. In this case you would had been better off to grab a yogurt to eat once you got there. I was stuck in the ER room the other week with my husband who had a gallbladder attack.. I did not plan and did not bring any food and the vending machines did not have anything I could even think or want to eat. I did finally go down to the cafe and got just a single chicken breast. I cut it up but still ate too quickly so I could get back to him. He is having surgery on the 11th so I will plan much better in taking foods I know I can eat. A hard lesson to learn but thanks for sharing so we can learn from you. -
congrats.... I have gone from 22W top to XL/L and 20W pants to size 14 in only 2 months. This is so incredible! I can't wait to say I bought a size 8 pants. The "girls" will probably never let me go less then a Medium top but I can live with that.

Miralax works great. I take it every couple of days. This keeps things very soft.

I so agree with you. I started watching it before I had surgery. I still watch it. I actually saw Adam today as a guest judge on Iron Chef America.

In my last support group, we had one person who gained back all her weight, she had some emotional problems which got the best of her but she admitted it and was back in support group to get back on track. Accountability...that is why I am planning to keep going to support group. Once I was able to eat meat, I focused on getting all of my Proteins from real food and not to rely on Protein shakes. Another no no that many do is drinking soda. I have not had a soda in over 3 months so I don't want to even try it as I may not be able to stop. I have yet to eat anything considered junk. I am working hard to make it to my goal.

How Many Incisions and IV's Did You Have?
klus263 replied to KabinKitty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 4 incision and one from the drain and 1 iv. They did do a hernia repair and liver biospy so one is about an inch long. All the rest are really small. -

Eating Out at 5 weeks out. Specific Ideas Please?!?!
klus263 replied to daezeey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on what foods you are allowed to eat. My first experience was Cracker Barrel for breakfast. I order one egg scrambled with eggbeaters/bacon and no toast or biscuit. I was able to eat one piece of bacon and the most of the egg. We have also done mexican and my husband order chcken fajitas and I order just refried beans. I ate 2 small pieces of chicken with some of the beans. Focus on protein first then if you have room than add veggies. -
Monday, Jan 31- Sleeve Day
klus263 replied to ImToula's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good Luck! I felt the same way about surgery. I take biotin-my hair used to shed prior to surgery and when I started the biotin, I only have a few strands shred while I am in the shower. It was very inexpensive at walmart. I am just at the 2 month mark so I have not experienced the hair loss and hope I don't. I have never thrown up, never had any nausea. Others have had different experiences. I made sure I followed my doctors guideline. I was lucky to even eat the amount they suggested-I still measure things out and still leave a few bites if I feel full. I was only in the hospital one night-start walking in the hospital. It makes a huge difference. I probably lost 20 the first month. I did gain while in the hosptial due to the IV fluids but it came off pretty quickly. It is a great journey. -
Yes, you can. I take a chewable multivitamin twice a day, calcium three times a day, B12 once a week. This is required by my doctor.

Hang in there. I was not scared at all. I knew I could never do this on my own. I was sleeved Dec 1st and can't wait to get to the finish line. I started at 232 lbs at my first dr appt, I am now down to 185.4 lbs. I have not weighed this since 1988. My health has improved and today my husband and I hiked to a waterfall. I never could had done that if I never had surgery. This is the next step in a wonderful journey.

I love carbs and they love me....I can think about carbs and I would gain weight. During my recent stall, I was getting around 50-60 carbs a day with 60 grams of Protein. I dropped my carbs to around 30 and some days I am below 20 (I am really focusing on getting my proteins). I broke my stall with the lower carbs. Everybody is different and I seem to find that for me to lose weight at a steady pace, I have to stay very low carb.

A crazy wonderful feeling!

That is so cool. Our support group does a fashion show every spring and I am hoping that next year I can take part of that when I am goal weight. -
To all the stallers....
klus263 replied to SFOTraveler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I broke my lastest stall with increasing my water, lowering my carbs and increased my walking. With our cold weather it has been hard going out to walk everyday. The good new is during a stall, I am not gaining weight. I just realize the next time I see my daughter I will weigh less then she has ever seen me. We live 5 hours away and she has not seen me since I had surgery. I am hoping for another 10 lbs in 30 days before I head to New Orleans for Mardi Gras weekend. -
This is a great forum for finding help, support and encouragement. I was sleeved on Dec 1 and still do not get the full 64 fluid oz daily. I am finally meeting the 60 grams of protein 95% of the time. Our support group has different meetings for lap band and gastic/sleeve patients. When I went to my first meeting there was maybe one other person, now there are many more. It appears that the office is doing more sleeves. Hang in there, it will get better. Even though I have a support group that I go to monthly, I am on this site daily.

Guess it's time to start telling my story.....
klus263 replied to tracidee66's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was diagnosed as a borderline diabetic almost 20 years ago. I controlled it by diet until 2 years ago. I ended up on metformin. Last year they doubled by dose. I was sleeved Dec 1st. I was able to discontinue my medication while on my presurgery diet-mine was very low carb. I had one insulin shot while in the hospital due to the iv fluids. I have not taken any medication since. I will be checking with my pcp next month for my A1C but I am feeling so much better. This was the best decision of my life. -
Not too Happy with my Weight Loss
klus263 replied to karrieremmer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got off my second stall. I really looked over the forum at different posts regarding stalls and slow weight lost. I increased my calories (I am barely getting in 600 as I still cannot eat much) for a day or two. I lowered my carbs and over the weekend I probably walked over miles. The scale finally moved yesterday . Of course, I could say it was the new scale (my husband did buy me a new scale as I kept saying the other one was broken) I am down 38 pounds since my sleeve was down on December 1st. It may be slower than what I want, but I am still losing and I am at my lowest weight since 1988. -
May Not Be Approved! WHAT?
klus263 replied to sunnyd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance only required 2 years. Call your insurance company and check to see what their requirements are. -
the other night I made protein style burgers. Basically it was a mini slider (very lean ground beef) wrapped in lettuce. My husband loved it. I just ate the cheeseburger (I am still not cleared for raw veggies yet). If you live near an In-N-Out burger, this is on their secret menu.
-
I am the same way. I think it is because I am still eating too fast and taking too big of bites. But if this is the worst side effect, I can live with that. I am down 46 lbs total (38 since surgery Dec 1st). I think some foods after me differently and I see it worst with new foods I have just re-introduced back into my diet.

Depressed over weight gain
klus263 replied to barb1952's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The doctor isn't concerned so relax. I know we are own hardest critic. I gained 12 pounds and only had the iv in for one day. Remember you had complications so it is taking just a little longer for your body to adjust. Be patient and it will come off before you know it.
