  1. Is it nausea that is making you throw up? My doc gave me a script for an anti-nausea medication, in a liquid form, and I took this as soon as I got home. They gave me an anti-nausea drug in the hospital via IV and I still threw up once when it had been too long between doses. If you don't have anything like that (mine is called Ondansetron, generic for Zofran) call your doc about it. I haven't thrown up anything since that brief episode in the hospital, so I don't think you have to suffer like that.
  2. Per my doc's instructions, I can't have purees until 2 weeks out. I was allowed full liquids from the time I left the hospital, so I can have creamy soups. If you are having problems, first, take any anti-nausea medication if your doc gave you any. If not, call them tomorrow and get some. Then go with just thin liquids until you feel like you can keep stuff done. I had some vomited while still in the hospital, but not since then, but I did take the anti-nausea stuff the first two days home.
  3. Day three was the worst for me. I ended up crying for an hour, then cheated later by eating some celery sticks (not recommending cheating, just saying that's what I did). Day 4 sucked too because I had to go to a baby shower. I chewed a lot of SF gum that day! After that it was easier. It did still suck, but the first days were the WORST!

    Sleeved and home

I've been sleeping on my side since day 2. It hurts a bit to get into the right position, but then it doesn't seem to hurt to stay here. Now it isn't uncomfortable at all. Good luck with feeling better. Are you taking all of your pain meds, and did they give you nausea meds too? Those are both sleep-inducing, so I'd take them just before bed and hopefully you can sleep better.
  5. Hi everyone. I was sleeved on Wednesday and the surgeon released me to come home yesterday. He was hesitant about whether to have me stay an extra night, but when I said I'd rather go home, he was cool with that. I feel so much better at home than I did at the hospital, so it was definitely the right decision. I've been keeping up on my pain and nausea medications and that has helped. I did have some nausea problems in the hospital and threw up twice. Not that there was much of anything to throw up, but the heaving was very painful, and I'm still sore in some extra parts because of it. Overall the pain hasn't been bad. Except for the gas pain the first night. I was ok from the time I woke up from surgery (10:30am) until about 11pm - really was doing great. Then the gas pain started and it was awful. I couldn't sleep, so I was doing laps around the hospital at 4am. I managed to burp enough over the next few hours that I felt better. For some reason, my gas was all in the upper regions and wanted to come out as burps rather than farts. I'm finding that breathing deeply is a bit painful, but I think that is because of the throwing up. But if yawning is the most painful, I'll take it. Just means its time for another nap Oh, and I slept really well for a nap yesterday when I got home, another one in the evening, then slept great at night. So much better than in the hospital! Anyone else home from sleeves this week? How are you doing?
  6. Yeah, I had some Gas-X. I couldn't find the strips, but I had some chewable. My mom was staying with me and she wasn't sure I should take something that the nurses didn't give to me, but since they're only response to my gas pain was to tell me to walk, I ended up taking one, then another a few hours later. I'm not sure it helped much. I don't know if I just didn't take enough, or if the strips work better than the chewable, or if I just had really stubborn pain, but it didn't seem to help much.
  7. Congrats and welcome! (though I only beat you to the losers bench by one day!). I had a miserable first night also, so much pain from the gas that I couldn't sleep, even with morphine added to my already-administered codeine. So you aren't the only wimp! Still, they let me go after one night and I've done much better at home than in the hospital, much easier to sleep! I'll definitely look forward to hearing of your progress, since we are only one day apart. Good luck!
  8. So I was sleeved just 4 days ago. I think I remember hearing somewhere that it takes a few days for the built-up ghrelin in your system to go away. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I"m on full liquids now, but just 2oz, and I try to make that last 20-30 minutes, but without much success. I basically slept through Breakfast today, so I still have one "meal" that I'll have later on tonight (probably 2 oz of yogurt, just had 2 oz of soup). I managed to get most of a Protein shake down, and I know I need to up that, but they taste so nasty, and having to sip them is like torture. I think maybe if I work harder on that I won't feel hungry. Just wondering if this is normal. I'm taking it as a sign that I feel better, but I was hoping to not be hungry. It might be partially head hunger, because TV commercials of pizza seem to make my stomach growl.
  9. Yeah, I'm taking a generic Prilosec. I was taking 1/day and my doc told me to up it to 2/day post-op. It may still be some gas moving around in there too. I'll have to try some more Gas-x. And it probably is time for me to focus a bit harder on getting my protein in. This might be my body's way of telling me its not getting enough protein.
  10. (cross-posted in the August sleevers sub-forum) Hi everyone. I was sleeved on Wednesday and the surgeon released me to come home yesterday. 11. Whoo hoo, today is the big day. Well, sort of today, haven't gone to sleep yet. In less than 7 hours I'll be on the operating table! So excited! I'll try to post here from my phone tomorrow night, if I'm up to it. If not, I'll probably be on Thursday when I get home. Good luck to all my other August 24-er's!

    PreOp Diet

I had a day like that on Day 3 of the liquid diet. I broke down and cried for a while, then felt a little better (but not much) after that. Then I broke down and ate a few celery sticks and carrots (figured this was the best cheat possible) and felt a million times better after that. You will get through this. You know you are making the right decision for YOU and you just have to have faith in that. Just try to tune out all the rest. Good luck!

    Almost time

Hi there! You get sleeved the day before me! I also started early Jan, and the process was slower than I would have liked, but that was due to some well, incompetence on the part of my surgeon's staff. There's a sub-forum for August Sleevers, you should stop in: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/106-august-2011-sleevers/ And the liquid diet sucks. I have a 2 week pre-op liquid diet and I'm so ready for the post-op when I get a few extra's (creamy soup, yogurt, yum!)
  14. I can't wait! Wednesday is the big day for me! I'm so tired of broth right now, so I'm excited that A) I get to have creamed Soups, SF pudding, and cream of wheat post-op, and that my stomach will be so tiny I probably won't care that I can't have even more than that to eat! 2 week liquid pre-op diet sucks donkey balls! I totally don't have nerves yet. I just want it DONE so I can start moving on! Hooray for all of you Monday and Tuesday Sleevers. Can't wait to hear how you come through! GOOD LUCK!!!!
  15. I finally bought some SF popsicles, and a little popsicle maker so I can make Crystal Light popsicles. The rule on milk for me is I can use milk for the shakes, but only skim, and then I can only have 3 shakes instead of 4. I'd rather have my 4 shakes. I talked to the dietician today and she said it will get easier. Day 3 is the hardest for everyone (and it was for me). She's actually had bariatric surgery, so she's done the pre-op. She suggested that I get some Wonton soup for variety and strain out the wontons and stuff. Or any broth-based soup, so I stopped by the chinese place and picked some up and it was a nice change. I also made more of my home-made chicken broth last night, because it is a million times better than the stuff I bought. She also said French Onion is ok if you strain it, and I saw some of that at Walmart, so I might pick some up. Right now I'm trying to gulp down a nasty shake (Nectar's pink grapefruit flavor). Then I'll have some more soup and head to work. How's everyone else's pre-op diet going?
  16. Just thought I'd say howdy! Are you already in your pre-op diet? I am and it SUCKS! But as of tomorrow morning, we'll be in the single digit number of days until surgery!

  17. I told my boss I needed to take time off for a medical procedure. He doesn't like knowing personal information anyway, so that was plenty for him. I was only going to tel a few co-workers, but I've ended up telling most that I talk to regularly and everyone has been super supportive (I guess I have awesome co-workers ). Maybe because I'm so excited about it and that comes through when I tell people. I'm still pre-op though, but I've already started my liquid diet.
  18. Sara, I think I probably sounded more whiny than you. Mine don't fill me up at all. I'm really sitting here almost crying right now I'm so miserable. I really want to throw in the towel. Wondering if I should call the dietician and see if there's anything I can add. I'm allowed 4 Protein shakes a day, that have to have under 200 calories and over 20 grams of protein. Then I can have broth or bouillon, and I've been having about 4-5 cups of broth a day. Then crystal light or other sugar free drinks. And Water. Sugar free Jello and popsicles are allowed too, but haven't had any yet. There's not a lot of leeway to reduce hunger. I think its the extra stress that is getting to me too. Thanks for listening you guys.
  19. I'm not doing nearly as good as I was on Day 1. Yesterday I was fine until late afternoon, then it went downhill. I'm hungry, grumpy, and hungrier. Almost to the point of wanting to say screw it and just do Atkins for the rest of my life. I thought that diet was hard until this, now I would kill to be able to do it right now. To make matters worse, I'm waiting to hear on a job that I interviewed for Monday. They said they hoped to make a decision by the end of the week. If I get the job, there's a chance they'll want me to start sooner than what would allow me to have the surgery. Now I'm not only hoping I get the job, I'm hoping that getting it will let me cancel the surgery so I can get off this insane liquid diet. Sorry for my pity party, but I'm truly miserable.
  20. That is awesome news all around. I would probably kiss my doctor's toes if he said I could have an egg and some cheese. I'm just wrapping up day 1 of 2 weeks of liquids. Congrats to you!
  21. I start my 2 week pre-op today! Whoohooo!! I'm actually really psyched up about it. I thought I'd be a bit scared/intimidated/mad, but I'm excited. Talk to me again in three days and I'll probably be singing a different tune - LOL! But it means I'm sooooo close to getting this done! I'm just about to make a chocolate-Peanut Butter Protein shake. I also made up a huge pot of chicken broth yesterday, and I have my thermos ready for taking it to work (along with another protein shake). I work strange hours, so I'll have another shake before I leave for work at 2, plus some broth, then dinner at work will be a shake and broth, and another shake when I get home at midnight. I also bought some gum, and I have tons of crystal light, so I feel really prepared. I've got the Netrition protein samples, plus a bunch of nectar, plus the unjury Chicken Soup. I am all set! Bring it on!!

    Fast Track to Surgery

I have the same surgery date as you! I think there's 5 or 6 of us on that date. Come over to the August Sleevers section and say hi http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/106-august-2011-sleevers/ I hope the rest of your approval process goes well! My surgeon's office wouldn't even schedule me until after my approval, and then they got sloppy and slow and I got my date a full month after my approval (with the surgery schedule for a month after I got the date)
  23. Hey, I have the same surgery date as you! Cool! I have to start my pre-op diet in 6 days, but I'm definitely having a Farewell-to-food tour before that. I know that eventually I will be able to eat these same foods, but I also know it won't be the same. So, I'm pigging out. But like I said, I will be doing the pre-op (2 weeks, ugh!) next week. I think maybe my pig-out has more to do with the 2 week pre-op than with the actual surgery. Like Southern Sleever said, it might be a good idea to pig out a while longer, but then do very low carb the week before surgery.
  24. I'm on Aug 24, which still seems SO FAR AWAY, but its under 4 weeks now. I have a 2 week all-liquid pre-op diet, so I've been preparing for that mentally, partly by eating lots of good food now Yesterday I bought some thermos Soup containers to keep my broth warm when I'm at work (no microwave access). I just ordered some nectar Protein and unjury chicken Soup protein the other day, as well as the Netrition sample pack (ordered the other sample packs months ago). Oh, and I've bought some really cute tiny (dessert) plates for when I get actual food again. I found some at Ross that had my initial (K) on them. I bought liquid Vitamins (at Costco), and ordered chewable Calcium when I got my Nectar protein. I still need to get the B-12s. Otherwise, I'm just counting down the days until the liquid diet starts (11!) and until surgery (25!).
  25. I just got the call from the surgeon's scheduler and I'm going to be sleeved on August 24! The funny thing is, its my 1/2 birthday, so my 6 month surger-versary will fall exactly on my 35th birthday! I don't know why, but this amuses me I finished my 3 month Sup. weight loss on May 24, got my approval on June 23 (Aetna only took 2 days, the rest of the delay was my screwed up surgeon's office), got scheduled for surgery July 20 (yep, another major delay by my screwed up surgeon's office - who has to wait a month to even get a freaking date!?!) and then surgery a month later, on August 24. I can't wait!!!
