would love some tips on how to deal with a sweet tooth
fern replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love oh yeah wafers!!!! I grab one if I'm craving sweets always!!!! -
2 flintstone complete Vitamins for me. Yummy : ) Try taking yours with a spoon of yogurt or if you are breaking them, swallow with yogurt. Worked for me because it coats them. Try pudding too!!

My only suggestion is to try and be as calm as possible!! You chose your surgeon and you trust him/her to do right by you. As for appetite, mine is still there.....somewhat. I get irritable if I haven't eaten in a while. Carbs... Oh carbs... Yes I still fight them. But it's an easier fight. I made a promise to myself that I can eat carbs, if and ONLY if, I eat my protein first. By the time I eat that, carbs get a few bites and I can't do anymore. Yes you will feel restriction, but maybe not at first ( or so I've heard). I went and bought a digital scale and weighed out my food ( still do but not as often) You will probably have a rough go of things for the first few weeks ( most people do). But know that things get better so fast. Believe in yourself. You'll do great!!!

chest pain! sleeved on 9/14, still in hospital
fern replied to ITSMEMRSJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dry heaved just after waking up too. That'll do a number on your chest muscles too!! I wouldn't be surprised if alot of your chest pain is from that too. Stay on your pain meds. That should help with that too. Yay for you to be sleeved!!!! -
I'm going to be sleeved in Juarez by Dr Rodriguez
fern replied to Xeryus's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
He's fantastic!! No problems at all : ) -
Hey! I'm not too far from you!! I'm in Surrey. I went to Mexico for my surgery. Truly the best thing I could do for myself. I, as well, had no health issue although diabetes was close. I just couldn't stand sitting at the sidelines while my young children grew up. I had a great doctor, dr. Rodriguez. Anytime you want to chat or ask questions, let me know

Ellie- as far as I know-yes to the MRI. It doesn't affect the staples. As far as would I do it again?? Definately!! I know I couldn't do it on my own so here I am at my goal weight 6 months later. I had no complications other than that my tummy doesn't like cold stuff anymore ( weird I know). There have been lots of threads about buyers remorse and complications ( even about the staples/MRI), you just need to search for them. Meg- if I remember right ( I can't see profiles from my phone), you are very early out and I think it's a good thing to let Khy know that. Alot of people have buyers remorse for the first couple months because... Well..... The first couple of months kinda suck. You are healing from major surgery and you need to relearn how to eat and drink all over again. Plus you are going through withdrawals of all the crap you ate beforehand. those feelings disappear ( at least they did for me) once I was able to start eating like a normal person again ( in smaller portions). Plus you feel so much better - mentally and physically when the extra weight starts to shed off!! Khy- use that search box- you'll find lots of threads about the topics you are asking about. But like I said ... If it were me, I'd do it again in a millisecond!!!

Goal is so close I can almost feel it...
fern replied to coops's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Coops, you matter soooo much on here....so to hear you hold back your posts makes me sad. I love reading your posts!!! Maybe there ARE lots of people that got to goal faster, but I bet there are many many more that have given up on making goal because they were losing to slowly for their liking. You are such a fighter and we love that about you!! Keep on truckin' - you'll make it there. And when you do we'll hold a cyber party!!!!! ; ) -

how come im not losing?!?!
fern replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First- breathe!!! Everything is okay. Your body has just been through major surgery and it's holding on to everything while you heal. They pump you full of liquid during surgery too, so you may or may not have shed that yet. Do a search on the 3 week stall. You'll get more info from that. You probably just hit it early. Please don't fret. All will be good : ) -
Has it been 6 months already?!?

fern replied to Thomas CPA's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My own: The cheap vinyl molded lawn chairs that everyone sells no longer look like death traps ready to collapse on first sit, and the arms don't "grip" to your rear end when getting out of them either![/size] Heeheehee. I remember those days!!! Lol. No longer though!!! -

Sweet!! -
For the first time ever in my life, I have succeeded in weight loss!!!! My hubby has never seen me this light ( though I have been smaller- I really hope the saggy skin on my lower body keeps shrinking as it has). But who cares if it doesn't!!! My only worry about this whole self image thing is..... When I catch a glimpse of my face in a mirror, I see my mom!!!! Weird.........,

Holy SH.....T!!!! I HIT GOAL!!!!!!!
fern replied to fern's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks so much for all your kind words!! My weight loss has REALLY slowed over the last few months and I'm trying to decide whether I still have more to lose. I guess I need to have a date with the mirror to decide. My upper body looks thin- really thin. I can actually see a rib or two. But my lower body could stand to lose a bit more. For the time being, I've decided to up my carbs a bit to include more fruits ( I LOVE fruit!!!) and see how I do. I'm kind of scared for maintenance because I'm worried if I give myself an inch I'll take a mile. Anyone else feel like this Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!!! I just love that everyone here knows how I feel!!! I told a friend of mine I hit goal and her response was, " o. Cool". Hmmmm -
Holy SH.....T!!!! I HIT GOAL!!!!!!!

So, any "post partum" for those who've reached goal?
fern replied to Rootman's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I just hit goal yesterday ( yay!!!). But I have always had multiple goals going. So yes. I hit my WEIGHT goal.... But I'm not yet at my SIZE goal - single digits ( I'm so close). I also have other goals. A disney half marathon in disneyland in in less than 6 months ( eeek!!). Beating my time ( each time) on the grouse grind hiking trail. Then I have other personal goals for work and home. I'll forever be striving for those goals, but it's what keeps me fighting!!! And since surgery, I've found that I love a good fight!!! -

When visiting my sisters home with my young kids, I JUMPED on the trampoline with them instead of watching from the sidelines. What a blast!!!! -

It was supposed to be a special time. My niece is a type 1 diabetic. She is forever losing her medic alert bracelet. Between her mom and I ( and my niece of course), we decided that she would get a metic alert tatto on her wrist and I would get one with her for support. She got done yesterday ( which was the most important, it was just mine that got screwed. I still definately plan on getting my tattoo, but I'm going to find a better artist that I trust to do it. Stay tuned for pics soon!!!

Here I am waiting in a TATTOO parlor to get my first tattoo!!! OMG I think I'm crazy!! I never would've gotten something like this done before surgery. I wanted to hide before, definately not show anything off!!! Pics to come later.......
