So........ I Have A Dilema And Need Input....
fern replied to fern's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Janet- there are some dates after the run, but it would involve an extra flight from LA to Texas as my doc (and what will be his doc) is stationed in 2 locations, and I'm not sure I could afford it. I truly think it would all work out ok if he has surgery before the run, but the old "what if" is running through my brain. If he is not doing well, I would obviously forfit the race to take care of him. But I've been looking forward to this for 6 months ( since I signed up- but this has been a life goal since I was a kid!)!! I can't imagine how I'd feel if I got this close to my dream and could not do it. But my hubby's health is so much more important. Can you tell that I'm confused : / -
That is fantastic!!!! It's so nice to be considered the "smaller" one!!!!! Woohoo!!!

My Gastric Sleeve Loves... My Gastric Sleeve Hates...
fern replied to dreamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sleeve loves proteins- just about any Protein except..... I think lactose type stuff. Still figuring that out My sleeve love sugar free koolaid and raspberry ice crystal lite- but no other sugar free drinks My sleeve loves warm liquids and hates cold stuff My sleeve HATES carbonation ( thank goodness, as I was a cola-o-holic) My sleeve can unfortunately tolerate sweets (unless I really overdo it)- this make me sad. I wish it made me sick!!!! Love the post!! -
Sweet!!!! Congrats!!!!

Has anyone gotten pregnant with their tubes tied?
fern replied to BenisaMartim4's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
My mom had her tubes tied after my brother was born and got preggers with me a year later. How the dr. explained it, is that the tubes are cut then tied/or sutured together. After the pregnancy, mama's body goes through such a healing process that a portion on a tube "heals" itself. I would think that wls surgery shouldn't mess with tube ties..... -
Being Sleeved In The Real World
fern replied to smallgirlsxthree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do alot of what the others do, but... My go to item is a oh yeah protien wafer bar. If I really want that chocolate/cake/cookie/etc., I'll eat the protein bar FIRST. Then after a few minutes if I still reaallllyyy want the treat, I'll eat it without guilt. I've found that I don't register being actually hungry. I get cravings like mad and I get really crabby!! Very weird. -
-I rely on oh yeah wafer bars WAY too much. But I figure it's the lesser of 2 evils when I REALLY want a sweet treat. -I don't stick to enough of a schedule for eating. It doesn't dawn on me that, "hey! I should eat lunch" till I've given into temptation and eaten a scone or cinni-bun ( mini thank god) -I don't log everyday, but I'm trying to get back at 'er. -I'm training for a half marathon and I keep 'putting off runs". It's coming soon!! So I better be ready!! -I "allow" ( not quite sure how to not allow) my work schedule to be so hectic that it interferes with sleep/life/sex/running/all of the above. I may be in charge of that bakery in the new year (2nd in charge right now), so I'm biding my time til I can run it the way it needs to be run.

One Year Gastric Sleeved Hooooooray! Did Not Hit Surgeons Goal Of 135... No Worries
fern replied to YOLANDA240's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
We are all sooooo different. I AM at 135 and I'm still in a size 10. So even though you are not at your surgeons goal, that shouldn't mean a thing. Rock those size 4 skinnies and enjoy : ) -

Need Encouragement - No Weight Loss For 4 Days
fern replied to Michell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Look up the 3 week stall. It happens to most of us and I happened to me at 2 weeks too. Your body is rebelling and needs the time to recover. You dr. is right. Work on your fluids. Your body can live without food waayyy longer than without liquids. You'll get there and you'll start losing again. I found that once I relaxed about the losing, I actually lost more. -
I had 2 lovely nsv today!!! First it was 1/2 price day on clothing at value village ( in canada) and I spent $100 on just me!!!! I didn't buy anything for the kids of hubby. Just me. Boy did that feel weird. I got pretty much a new wardrobe because lots of my clothing doesnt fit again ; ) While at value village, I had to try on clothing. I hit my alltime goal of fitting into size 9 pants!!! I even fit 2 size 8!!!! Holy crappola was I excited!! I laughed out load in the changeroom and scared the little old lady in the next stall ; ) lol Now if only my size would suck back in...... Lol

Fantastic!!! That is just plain amazing ; )

You look stunning!!! Glad to hear you had a great time!!!

Any Other Gastric Sleeve Pre-op's Heading To Tijuana?
fern replied to MissE's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Misse- dr rod is great!! My surgery was easy peezy- the only thing I didn't like was the bench thing my mom had to sleep on. If someone is going with you, be forewarned that their sleep at the hospital isn't great- Oh! And when you go to the hotel ( if it's the same one) there is a street stand selling Mexican grub - the beef broth is great!! ( watered down a bit though- it was a little strong for my tummy but tasted fab!!!) Good luck!!!! -
The 1st Day Of My Gastric Sleeve Surgery Journey
fern replied to GetInMyBelly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You aren't losing because your body needs to rest and recover. Look up the dreaded 3 week stall. Sounds like your in it! As for all the throwing up, I would stay on thick liquids for longer. You don't want to throw up and put pressure on your stitches. Purée soups and add no flavor protein powder to it. Make your own chicken stock ( better protein) and just drink that. Let the swelling come down then thicken the soups more and more till really thick. THEN go to thicker mushies. My doctor said it best: no one is alike. Just because you CAN move onto the next food stage, doesn't mean your body will allow you to. Listen to your body and all will be fine. Good luck! -

Nsv- A New Winter Jacket Not Xxxxl, Xxxl, Xxl, Or Xl
fern replied to warrior68's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Omg!! I went shopping at value village and bought a thigh-length fitted jacket in a size SMALL!!! I have never been about to buy cute winter stuff. I always felt like the stay puff marshmallow woman -
You could also look at some moisture wicking undergarments ( shorts). They usually have no seams and would keep your skin a little more dry = less chafing. Good luck!!!
-
Yay Coops!!!! That's wonderful!!! You have such an inspiring story!! Cheers!!

Okay,, this sucks to talk about but it's embarrassing and I want it to go away!!! I am really gassy now. It doesn't seem to make a difference what I've eaten or not eaten. It even happens long, long, long after I've eaten. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, but I hate it!!! Sometimes it's really loud, sometimes really stinky ( OMG!! I'm so embarrassed by this!!!) I'm hoping someone has gone through this and has found something that has helped?!?? Please????
