    Gallbladder Surgery

Don't wait!!! I had my surgery about 2 year ago. (Still don't regert it!) I had one attack about 6 months ago. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't stand, I couldn't sit down, NOTHING helps. It is the worst pain I have ever had including the WLS and my C-section. I still shudder when I think about it. Went to the hospital by ambulance and there they made sure I wasn't having a heart attack and let me go home when they found "several stones" in my gallbladder. Since then I had maybe one minor attack. Recently, I was sick with weird nightly fevers that are gone in morning and all sorts of strange things. Including bilrubin and red-blood cells being found during a urinalysis. Scheduled the surgery to remove my GB. The surgery itself wasn't bad. Able to go home that day. However, the surgeon said it was a good thing I had it done now. Apparently when your GB gets inflammed...it becomes sticky. Who knew!? My GB was FULL of stones of various sizes and was stuck to my liver, my bowel, and one other organ (I can't recall). Luckily they were still able to remove it laproscopically but it could have turned out alot worse. DON'T WAIT. I had no stones about 2 years ago....was left with a GB that was stuci to my insides!
  2. That is a wonderful way to look at things. Thank you so much!
  3. I'm exactly where you are. I had my surgery a day after yours and lost like crazy for the first couple weeks. I was teasing my mom telling her "don't walk behind me, you might catch a pound!" Now I'm up two pounds and it caught me off guard. I know enough from reading around here that I need to get my Protein in, which I haven't been able to do alot of. And I need to start exercising. It's a good thing this website is out there. Otherwise I would be losing my mind! Good luck!
  4. I know we're supposed to be getting in about 48-64oz of liquids in per day. HA! I'm lucky if I get in 20oz. Drinking is such a huge issue for me. It makes me immediately nauseous. I worry that I'm flirting with dehydration and that is something I DO NOT want to deal with. No more hospitals for me. I am SOOOO thirsty ALL the time but I just can't get in the liquids I'm supposed to. I saw my doctor yesterday and he didn't seem overly concerned about it. Told me to eat more Popsicles and eat ice if I can but I just don't see me eating enough Popsicle to cover the amount of liquid I need. Has anyone dealt with dehydration?

    Drain Removal

I agree...it didn't hurt but it wasn't a very comfortable feeling. Very hard to describe.
  6. and I will be sleeved! I can't believe that it's finally here. I thought it would NEVER come. It's been a long journey 10 months. I can't wait to be on the road to a new healthier me.
  7. I chose the sleeve because of several reasons. One of which is that there is no malabsorption with the sleeve. I can still take pills, I still process my vitamins, little to no dumping syndrome. I think it's a wonderful "in between" the band and the bypass.

    I need a smoke!

It's a medically proven fact that Nicotine is addicting. Anything you become addicted to causes physical and mental withdrawals. Good luck with the no smoking you are a stronger person than I am!
  9. Congratulations! and good luck with your insurance.

Carefirst PPO with BMI of 40

My friend went with the band. She didn't want the malabsorption with the bypass. With your history of anemia you may be able to get an approval. I would think that the bypass could cause problems with your anemia. Keep me informed!
  11. I'm with BluePoint as well and my experience has been great. I didn't think they did surgery in Fairfax hospital but I do know they do it at Potomac hospital (Woodbridge) and Fair Oaks hospital (Fairfax). Good luck!

Carefirst PPO with BMI of 40

I also have Carefirst insurance ( the open access and not the PPO) and they do not approve you for surgery without a BMI of 50 or up. For the sleeve that is. My friend and I were doing this together, both of us planning on the sleeve. Insurance would not approve her because of her BMI being too low. They will however approve the band or the bypass. I say go for it. They may make a rule change or if you have other issues they may approve it. It doesn't hurt to try.

LEss than 1 week 'til my Geyonce' transformation!

Congratulations on your success with the Optifast. It's a small world! I was at that nutritional class on Tues as well but didn't meet with the anesthesiologist after. Your surgery is a week before mine and on my son's birthday! Please keep us posted, I'm looking forward to hearing someone's surgery experience with the same doctors that I am using. Good Luck!
  14. Hi. My surgeon said to expect to be in the hospital for 2 days. Good luck on your journey!:w00t:
  15. Hello. I'm new to the site and more of a lurker (stalker may be more appropriate lol) and read WAY more than I post. I have learned quite a few tips and things to watch for. More than the doctor has shared. Although I have to say my doctor has been very upfront and forthcoming. I am due to be sleeved on the 28th of this month and one thing I have been worried about is caring for my son after surgery. I'm a single mom with a two year old boy (he'll be three a week before surgery :cursing:) with extra ordinary energy. He's also a pretty big boy. Not fat, being overweight myself I am VERY aware of what he's eating and if he's getting enough energy. I think I'm the only person with a two year old who prefers broccoli over happy meals! Does anybody have any tips or suggestions on how to keep up or how long it took to be able to keep up after surgery. My mother is going to be keeping him for four days including the day of surgery and that'll be a wonderful help. I'm just looking for suggestions. Anything will help. Sorry for the novel! :confused1:
  16. You're about a week before me. I can't wait, he's (as well as myself) the reason I seriously started considering this surgery. He deserves a mommy that can run and play and keep up. If I can only keep him off long enough to heal! Good luck with your surgery and I'd love to hear how everything went with you!:cursing:
  17. He's definitely over 10lbs. LOL. I thought about showing him "Mommy's Boo Boo" knowing him though he'll probably think he can kiss it and make it better. LOLOL!!!! Thanks for the advice.
  18. I think this is the only side effect I am really worried about. I have SUPER thin hair. Even a little loss and I'll be bald!
  19. LMAO @ Papillon. I have often envisioned myself being the same way when it's time for my liquid diet. Fortunately we are allowed a sugar free Popsicle and/or sugar free jello three times a day with our diet. I plan on taking advantage of that every day. I keep telling myself it's only 14 days and the it'll be SOO worth it in the end. HANG IN THERE!!

    NSV: new clothes!

Congratulations!!!! I can't wait to be able to post that my clothes no longer fit. I often wonder if I will have a problem with form fitting clothes as I'm so used to extra big clothes to cover/hide everything.....

    Weird!

And here I thought it was only my strange family that had that problem. Both my grandmother and I will sneeze after we get choked on something. Everybody is always teasing us about it. I hope I don't have the "sneezing if eating to much" syndrome too after surgery!! :001_tongue:

    September sleevers wanted!

My surgery is slated for 9/28. I started my journey in January, I can't believe it's finally scheduled and "really" happening. I have a whole host of testing to get done in the next few weeks. Good luck to everybody!
