Thanks for your message. Everything went ok. I'm still feeling weak and sore, so I will be posting in a day or two when I feel better. But I wanted you to know your message helped a lot.

Hi, all. I am back, and I am sleeved. I don't really feel like saying much about it yet, but just wanted ya'll to know I made it. I'll post to the forums in a day or two when I feel able to.
-
Thank you, Margaret--I needed your kind words right now. Good luck to all the Monday sleevers!

I leave for San Antonio first thing in the morning for my Monday morning surgery. I am not scared of the surgery, but the anxiety is for the life-changing aspects of it. I love to eat, I love food, and I have to keep telling myself that I'm not giving up my favorites completely, just reducing the amount. It doesn't make the anxiety go away completely, but it helps. I will need this forum for support when I get back. My husband is fully supportive but I haven't told my siblings yet. I really needed to have a good cry this afternoon, but it just wouldn't happen. I guess I just needed to vent a little.

Wow! That's great! I hope I see changes that fast!

How nice that you are so supportive of your wife! You wouldn't believe how many husbands are not. I am lucky with mine. With that said, my doctor wants me on clear liquids for 3 weeks postop. (I get sleeved on Monday.) This is to give the stomach time to fully heal. Perhaps your wife's stomach needs more time to adjust. I would suggest she go back to clear liquids, then try again in another week. BTW, there is a forum here especially for family members of patients, although I think it is empty right now. You might enjoy connecting with other spouses here. Good luck to your wife!

Inspiration or Agitation: My Friends Respond to Weight Loss
seniorsleever commented on newnatalie's blog entry in newnatalie's Blog
I love this! I have two daughters-in-law that are obese. One is very active and outgoing, the other is a miserable recluse. I mean, she NEVER leaves her house--my son does all the shopping, etc. I am so sad for her, but talking to her at this time would not be helpful but hurtful. When I have gotten down to a normal weight, I hope to convince her to explore having the sleeve for herself. My son agrees with me that by then she will see that it worked for me, so it will work for her. I would even pay for it if she could only be happy again. You ARE an inspiration! Thank you for this post. -
Mine will be in San Antonio--self pay at 14 thousand with Texas Bariatric Specialists.

I am also having my surgery on Monday. I'll be glad to get that done and get on with my new life!

Tri Care said NO! But have other questions

Where in Texas are you? I'm in Corpus, and my surgeon is Dr. Nilesh Patel in San Antonio. Self-pay for everything is $14,000. -
Great! Where in Texas are you? I'm in Corpus Christi. My surgery is the 24th--just 5 more days!

I get mine from GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe. The grocery store type aren't all that good. Try to get individual packets rather than getting a large tub, so you can find one you like. In my opinion the pre-mixed shakes are nasty. I much prefer the taste of powders. Get a blender bottle or a plunge hand mixer (I use this when I am at home.) My favorite is GNC Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 in chocolate or vanilla. You can add other flavors to the vanilla if you want. But try to find one YOU like, because there's no reason to drink one that tastes nasty. My doctor does not allow Slimfast, Muscle Milk, Boost, Carnation, or Myoplex. I hope that helps!

Happy Sipper
seniorsleever replied to ThatDudesMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ooooh, that does sound good! I'm still pre-op, but I think I'll do that now so I can still enjoy a bit of the meat now. Thanks for the great idea! -
What were/are your safe clothes?
seniorsleever replied to faithstar's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
For years I have lived in blue jeans from Catherines and pullover knit shirts. I own three different sizes of jeans--now with my pre-op diet I'm too small for my largest size but not yet in my "skinny" jeans. I am really looking forward to post-op weight loss, so I can get smaller than those "skinny" jeans! I will probably wear the pullover shirts I have until I am swimming in them. I promised myself that when I reach Onederland I will reward myself with New Wardrobe #1, then at goal get NW #2!! -
Lucycat, I haven't had my surgery yet, (8 more days!) but I felt like you do until I spent some time reading these forums. All of your fears are legitimate, and you can find answers to all of them and to many more questions here. Spend some time going through the topics that interest you, and I guarantee someone has asked the same questions before and there are lots of good advice in the answers. This site rocks! Everyone is supportive. They won't sugarcoat the answers, either. You'll get true experiences here. Good luck with your decision!

Scale Recommendation
seniorsleever replied to lkcraig316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bit the bullet and bought a Detecto scale like at the doctor's office. It's also known as a balance beam scale. It cost me $150 online, but worth it to me. I've never found a bathroom floor scale that was really accurate. -

How Much Carbs Pre-Op?
seniorsleever replied to lkcraig316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that is a whole lot more than my preop diet. Mine is Breakfast: Protein shake Lunch: Protein Shake Supper: 3 oz lean meat, 1 serving vegetables. No Snacks are allowed, but I do eat dill pickle slices, which have 0 calories, 0 carbs, 0 protein. The pickles give me a little crunchy-munchy for a snack.
