Trouble with Pre-Op weight loss
fatBgone replied to Terrib's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first day of pre op diet is hard, really hard because you are breaking the carb addiction and lower calories and fat. It does get easier, by day 3 you will be fine. -
Seriously need some advice
fatBgone replied to MissyG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The biggest help to me was to slow down! I thought I was going slow but I would foam and dry heave, just miserable. The worst times were when I was trying to take any medicine, because it was crushed or split I just wanted to get it over with and went too fast. I started measuring my fluids to 2 ounces and set a 20 min timer after each 2 oz and I would wait that 20 mins before taking any more. It helped me to realize I needed to slow down. Good luck -
Had my surgery on Monday and my gel nails were not a problem at all. But some sallons will put a base cost of acrylic on under the gel so make sure yours are pure gel.

how long were you off work?
fatBgone replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was this past Monday and I'm going back to work this coming Monday. But I'll be working from home and I'm only working M-W next week. I think I'll be fine given how I'm feeling now. -
How many sleeves had your surgeon performed?
fatBgone replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon's done over 400 sleeves. Only 1 case resulted in a leak that needed more surgery. -
First 2 weeks post-op
fatBgone replied to BeachWithMyBabies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was Monday, each day I get more fluids in. I wouldn't worry about the amount right out of the gate. Just do as much as u can and increase each day. -
Well I usually don't post on the weekends and come Monday I'll be gettin' my sleeve. So I guess this is my last topic to post on the pre-op forum. Hopefully all will go well for those of us who are April 11th-ers, I think there are a few of us. We will be rockin' our sleeves come next week! C'mon weightloss, I'm ready!!!

Funny you should ask that, I just had my pre-op call with the nurse at the hospital and she said that if I have acrylic nails that I only had to have 1 off so they can see the nail and put that finger clip thing on that finger to monitor your oxygen level and heart rate. She said that finger clip thingie doesn' t read it right over an acrylic nail.

Having a hard time and worried
fatBgone replied to Bryn Dawson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it is hard, its very hard, in fact. which is why we are all here. I agree that not having a date makes it hard to focus. But since you have time to work it start slow. Work on one thing a week, start with the cutting the cards, and I don't mean completely but set a carb goal and stick to that. then set a protein goal the next week, then a calorie goal the next week, etc. Just keep building on your success. The biggest motivator is a scale move. But you can't weigh often, pick a set time like every Sat morning. You wouldn't have posted if you didn't want to succeed. Good luck. -
Good news? A Date! Bad News? Not when I thought...
fatBgone replied to meggiep's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its really not that far away and you can look at your "extra time" as mental prep time to get ready for your new way of eating. I know my date was set farer out than I expected because of doctor vacation and all that (how dare he go on vacation when I need surgery!!!!) But I do think I needed to time to "live with" the fact that I'm doing this and how was I going to do this and just get it all set in my mind. Good luck! It will be here before you know it. -
No Protein Yet Today
fatBgone replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Crosswind, Medifast is my pre-op diet. I found that adding in the Torrani SF syrups into the strawberry pudding/shake and Aloha Mango smoothie really enhanced the flaver. I added raspberry syrup to the strawberry and mango syrup to the mango smoothie. I do both in the blender with a little bit of ice. Slpenda brown sugar is great on the medifast oatmeal. The Medifast chicken and rice Soup is good, I add a little poultry seasoning and salt and pepper. To the scrambled eggs, which are my fav, I add a little Molly Mcbutter cheese sprinkles. I add it before cooking and it mixes in really well. -
I think I kinda skipped a "eating" stage
fatBgone replied to Sara Ann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would check the literature from your surgeon or call the office to find out what his/her diet progression is. Mine is 7 days liquids then 3 weeks of pureed or mushies. Then at 1 mo I go to soft food stage. But every surgeon's office is different so its important to do what yours tell you to do. -
may potentially be canceled
fatBgone replied to Chicadee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just reading this now but it seems to me that if he wanted you to lose more weight prior to surgery, he should have asked you to do a longer pre-op diet. The 8 lbs in the 10 days sounds right on for that many days, its not like you didn't lose enough given the time you've been doing it. I hope it all works out for you. -
Started Pre-op diet today. Carbs are Evil!!!
fatBgone posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I start my pre-op diet. My is made up of Medifast products, which are basically powdered products that you add water or broth to and microwave. It is low card and high protein. They taste okay. The dietician said it would be hard for about 3 days while I go through carb withdrawal. She said this diet helps prepare you for your after diet. Well I had no idea what she meant. In fact, I thought she meant it helps to prepare you because of the diet is liquid and it helps to mentally prepare you for an all liquid diet after surgery. NO my friends, that is not it. It helps because it starts the carb addiction and let me tell you I feel awful. I have a headache, lethargic, miserable. I can't believe carbs can do this to you. I'm so glad I'm doing this now and not after the surgery because I'll feel bad enough after surgery. UGH I now hate carbs for this -
No Protein Yet Today
fatBgone replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm worried about this to. Its the Protein in the liquid form that gives me concern. As you say "formaldehyde" and that is NOT going to go down easily. One thing I'm going to try is make some SF Jello and add in the unflavored Protein powder and drink it warm. When I was a kid and we were sick, my mom would make us cherry jello to drink and it tasted so wonderful (c'mon I was a kid) so I'm hoping to try to recreate that with SF jello and protein powder, I can dream can't I? -
1. I can't believe how little food I need to survive and feel fine. Even though I'm eating 5-6 times a day, the quantity is very little each time and although I sometimes feel hungry, I'm not starving and I think most of it is head hunger. 2. When I eat a small quantity, if it tastes good, it satisfies me, even though its a very small amount of food. If it doesn't taste good to me, then I'm not as satisfied because of head hunger-this I've learned very quickly. 3. Its hard to determine head hunger from real hunger when I haven't eaten in awhile. I hope to learn this. But when I eat and then feel hunger right away, I know its head hunger because whatever I ate didn't satisfy me, either because it wasn't good or I was pre occupied and didn't even realize I ate! 4. I think this pre-op diet may be shrinking my liver in prep for surgery but I think its doing more for my 'head' in terms of preparing me for eating after surgery. 5. It's more of a lesson in self control and self awareness. No one told me it would be like this so I'm proud of myself for learning so much in a short period of time!
-
Well that was specific to me. He did mention that some people are at greater risk for leaks right off the bat, high BMI in which the liver is so enlarged it is an obstacle to getting to the stomach or in the case of a band being there where there has been scarring or erosion, etc. For me, a lower BMI (with a hopefully shrinken liver) the most likely cause of a leak would be necrosis and it takes 2-3 for the necrosis to set in.

Started Pre-op diet today. Carbs are Evil!!!
fatBgone replied to fatBgone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is my 4th day and I feel so much better, each day got better but today I feel good! And not only do I feel good, I feel like I can really do this. I did some cheating on day 2 as well but I stuck to low carb stuff, my thing was cheese. I just ate a little bit of shredded chedder, it really hit the spot and I didn't add any carbs. We Can Do This!!! -
That sounds so much fun!!! Congrats. I can't wait to be there! Would somebody please tell me what NSV means????
