Sharp internal pain - 6 days post-op
fatBgone replied to mandems mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't felt any sharp pains. I will occasionally feel a muscle twinge but it's not sharp and not a big deal. If it's constant you should call your surgeon. -
How long before normal activities?

Possible Problem ~ Question
fatBgone replied to PrincessFluffy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the first week I had a lot of red liquid jello and I had the exact same situation in the bathroom! It happened more than once. Not sure how much of the syrup you used but I can tell you that it was a normal thing for me that first week. It's completely gone now and I'm not drinking the jello anymore. -
I take Prilosec, I didn't have the reflux issues but I had the sour stomach feeling. The Prilosac really helps. My surgeon said to take it for 6 weeks then see how it is w/o taking it.

How long before normal activities?
fatBgone replied to kemo46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm two weeks no lifting over 20 lbs, no bathing or swimming, and only walking for exercise. 2-4 weeks can add activities but no core strengthening like sit-ups. After 4 weeks I'm good to go to normal activities. -
Sam, you and were the same day and I've been sleeping on my side or stomach for awhile. I didn't have a drain though so not sure about that. If it's gas I would think if you walked you would have some relief through belching. I will say that I have some stomach muscle twitches going on but not bad pain. Call your surgeon. Keep us posted.

WTH?! I need to stop reading!!!
fatBgone replied to ybnormal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery here in the US and I was self pay. I'm 11 days post op and I admit I've contacted my surgeon twice with concerns. I'm pretty level headed but this was major surgery that I'm not used to and I had concerns that I needed to run by the surgeon. Everything is fine and the doc assured me they were all normal things to experience so that is good. Good luck w your decision. -

Returning to Work??
fatBgone replied to CarolinaSleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Something to think about is how will you prepare your food and can you take the time to eat multi times during the day. I went back after a week and I work from home so I have everything here- a blender, lots of bowls, spoons, protein , etc. If you go to work think about how you will be able to have what you need to make the food and the time to eat it. -
Antiobiotics after surgery
fatBgone replied to mandems mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not, they gave me them in my IV while in the hospital but that was all. -
I didn't Luke Amy protein shakes either until I found Unjury vanilla and chocolate splendor. BUT , here's the key you have to add flavor, I do it w a few slices of banana and/ or a tbsp dry pudding powder( whatever flavor u want) and/ or SF Torani syrup. My favorites so far r choco splenor w banana and hazelnut syrup and van w whit choco syrup and raspberry syrup. They don't even taste like "protein" to me, they taste good. I use milk in mine and I do 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 scoop of protein because that's all I can do at one time. I add 3-4 ice cubes and put it in a blender.

Pre-op Appointmet with my Surgeon
fatBgone replied to meggiep's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes good luck on your liquids, as mentioned above it isn't easy but it is doable. You will make it. You may want to start by cutting Carbs now until your liquids start. That way you can eat w your events you have planned but make a good dent at the same time. Your timing is coming... -
Day 2: Allergic to Vicoden
fatBgone replied to Virginia S's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The good news is I only needed my RX pain meds the first day I came home. I took them the next day at bedtime but I really didn't need it. Hopefully you will do okay. -
The nurses told me that coughing wouldn't cause any harm. But I know what you mean, it hurts when you do it. I'm ten days out now and it does get better.

How do you manage to cook for family right after?
fatBgone replied to Rainydayz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure how old and capable your kids are but for mine, I bought a bag of frozen burgers that the could make on their own, I bought some hotdogs and metts, frozen pizza, etc. I told them they had to do it on their own for awhile. It worked out fine, and my daughter actually made a comment that she really missed my home cooking (I would have never heard that before!) They didn't eat the most healthy meals but it was only for 1 week so they survived! -
Oh Sam209 that no driving would have killed me. Luckily, I was ok'd to drive as soon as I was off the prescription pain meds and that was 2 days post surgery. Not driving feels like your freedom is gone! Glad you are back behind the wheel!

why am I not happy? POST SLEEVERS HELP
fatBgone replied to determined1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read an article on this awhile ago. It said that it does take time for us to accept our new sizes. It said it was very important to actually do mental exercises of looking at yourself and really talking to yourself about how your body has changed! The article said this will help you to accept your bodily changes. If you don't, the article said, it is one of the major subconscious ways that we sabotage our successes! It said to continually think about how you are changing, remind yourself again and again what new size you are. It talks about all kinds of changes that we go through- marital, job promotion, loss of a loved one, but the hardest change to accept was seeing your body in a different size, whether you had a gain or a loss. I think it makes a lot of sense. It is hard to get used to. I'm not there yet but I hope to be! -
Good luck to you and Sprout!

Do you still attend support meetings? How far do you go?
fatBgone replied to Rainydayz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do use the support group at the doctors office. It's only once a month for me and the drive is about 30 minutes. I enjoy going.
