a bit gross...you've been warned :-)
brbm6 replied to thatgurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try a probiotic powder (you can get them at the health food store). Sprinkle a capsule into your drink. It will put the good bacteria in your intestines after diarrhea. -
My doc says anything that is mult-vitamin size or larger must be crushed. I take Synthroid and it is small and does not need to be crushed.

Day 4, incisions dont hurt but port area does
brbm6 replied to hopetolose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My port area just started feeling normal and I am 12 days out. Do not worry. What you are feeling is very normal. -
I had my surgery on the 5th of April. I understand your fears. The surgery went very smoothy and I had very little pain and no complications. The worst was what was in my head! You will be fine. If you have Type 2 Diabetes just think of how much better your life will be with the weight off! You are doing a great thing for yourself and your son. Good luck!

Don't worry that happened to me too. I had surgery April 5th. I gained my water weight back then it dropped back off. Just watch what you eat and make sure to drink 8 glasses of water a day.

Thanks to whoever suggested the heating pad for gas!
brbm6 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whoever it was on the forum that suggested using a heating pad for gas pains.....THANK YOU!!! I am now on mushies and my pureed taco soup caused some major G.I. pain tonight. Without the heating pad, I would have been it tears! -

brbm6 replied to slm2007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah! You will love it! It is is an awesome feeling to be able to push away your fork! -
Just had about 1/4 can of chicken and Rice Soup (Pureed). I made 1 cup but could not eat it all. Normall I would wash a can down with a pack of crackers (before band). This band is amazing. I am actually full. Just want to share my AWWWWW moment! http://bandstermomma.blogspot.com/

My doc said no NSAIDS either..I think it even says no NSAIDS on the Lap Band website. You may want to check. Stomach erosion would not be good.
-
W@W!!! This band really works!

I really have not thought about food unless my stomach growls. And I get a feeling in my chest when I am at my almost full mark and if I get up from the table I realize I am no longer hungry. -
Just when you think you got it!!!!!
brbm6 replied to mandyb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would only drink enough (if it happens) to pass or throw up anyway! But it is good to know in case of a dire emergency. I wouldn't try it unless I was really stuck! -

I may be newly banded but this is really good to know! I do not deal with pain so if I can get it up with soda then Hallelujah! -
I think I have read on the boards that this is normal but, I wanted to double check (I am newly banded 8 days out).....in the mornings it seems that my band is tighter than the afternoons. I can drink water when I first get up but that is about it! (I am currently on mushie stage)...Is this normal?
-
Not only do I have that problem in the morning but after I worked out today it was super tight! I feel like something is stuck in my chest. I am not in pain but I don't want to eat. I guess I will try the protein shake in the morning and maybe work out earlier in the day tomorrow. This certainly makes you notice and take note to your eating habits!
-
Congratulations on your new life! I will say, I am 38 and afraid I won't loose all the weight. I think it is probably a very normal feeling. Just remember, it took years to put on and with this process it may take years to get off! But, this is such a safe and lasting way to loose the weight. Congrats on your decision!

had lapband today 4/13/11
brbm6 replied to options123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on being banded! I drank as much Water (plain) as I could get down and chewed gas X tabs that were mint flavor. My pain meds were liquid also. You may want to call your dr. and ask for liquid if you do not have it already. -
Thanks for the tips! I am a "crunchy" kind of gal so the pickles may do the thing! And I will pick up a bag of Werther's sugar free. Love the ideas...if you have anymore please post!

Eating with Baby Spoon??
brbm6 replied to SDTeaGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have small spoons but never thought about cocktail forks! What a great idea. -
Do you eat pickles because they are low in calories? I am going to the gym today for the first time since getting the band (Dr. Ok'd the gym yesterday). Maybe it will work that way for me too! I will cross my fingers. Love, love, love that we can use it to trick ourselves!

Post op 6 days - minor complications
brbm6 replied to Woodslass's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am six days out too. I have a hard knot about 2 inches above my belly button at the incision where they put the port. I thought they would put the port on the side. It is like a big hard knot and tender to the touch. I am having a little back pain and shoulder pain as well. I have been using the Gax-X chews. The mint flavor seems to calm my stomach a little. The worst thing for me is that I am so tired! I guess my body just wants to rest to heal. Hang in there...we will be done with this phase soon and moving on to the next! -
How did you handle getting to eat your favorite meal?
brbm6 replied to Ssauce74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't think you sounded crazy at all...just honest. I am sure if we are all honest with ourselves we wondered what we will do when our favorite foods are put before us. We all got the lap band so we would be able to put our forks down! -
I am sure some of you can relate to this: I was talking to a friend today about being banded tomorrow (YEAH!) and how exciting it was. Her reply, "I know someone else who was banded and they gained all the weight back plus some. Good luck!" GRRRRR!!! Talk about raining on my parade! Of course I didn't listen but still.....
