I was wondering if there were any women who had had the pannulectomy at 60-65 years old and how you did with healing
-
I will do it.
-
Yes it does but the tummy tuck is a harder surgery but the younger people do it a lot but as long as my insurance is willing to cover this I am happy. I go for an appointment just to talk to my surgeon on the 4th oct to find out anything I have missed about it.

Thank you Leebick for responding.

Well I guess there isn't anyone as old as I am that has had the pannulectomy. My pre-appointment is getting close and I am a little nervous and wonder if I should forget about having it done because of my age.

Hi Tracy, Hope you are having a good day. I am 9 months post op , my highest weight ever was 289 and I am now bobbing between 191 and 193. It took me 5 years to finally get my nerve up to do this and when I did finally decide it was time The nerves left the scared feelings left, I went in had the surgery and had a few rough days but only regret is why I wasted those 5 years. I only told my husband, kids and sisters, and still haven't told anyone. If they ask,I simply say I am trying lo-carb high protein which is exactly what we do. I am not going to tell you , you will never have a rough day, we do but they get better and better . I have so much more energy, My knees still hurt some but I deal with it. I would get down when my weight would stall but it has happened so many times I just except it now. IT HAPPENS. Keep being positive , keep telling yourself it will be a better life and pray. You will be fine . If you would like to stay in touch by email that is fine , I don't get on Bariatricpal too often so I may not see your post for a few days. My email is phart9@cox.net. Hope the nervousness goes away. You can do this. -
Sounds great, Just got back from the nutritionist and I am 5 months out and down 60 lbs, seems slow but I am pleased.

hopeful one replied to GinaCampbell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hope it all works out for you . I think all of our children would be worried for the surgery but she will probably be fine once you come thru the surgery fine and you are losing weight and getting healthier. Just let her know you wouldn't be doing this if you didn't think it was going to help you. GOOD LUCK. -

Hello deuel30 I too have BCBS ppo and I am doing my 6 month supervised weight loss appointments now. I hate that we have to take that long. It gives us to think. I am using Cone Health in North Carolina. They haven't said I need 3 years of weight loss info. I am going to my 3rd weight loss appointment on June 15. I hope you do really well. -

I haven't had surgery yet and I have read where several are saying they wake up and don't know where they are at times , This being after they get home? That puzzles me, some that has experienced this could you explain this a little more , Is it the pain meds or does this surgery really mess with our memory? -
A friend of mine has the sleeve and she has lost 70 lbs. and she said her knees feel completely different , said it was much easier to walk and get around.

Sleeve Leaks ... Any fatalities reported?
hopeful one replied to 1cutechubbychiq's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think a Good book for information on all of this is THE BIG BOOK ON THE GASTRIC SLEEVE . It explains about the leaks starting on page 99. ACUTE LEAKS occur within 7 days of your initial surgery........ Early leaks occur within 1-6 weeks after surgery.......... Late leaks occur within 6-12 weeks after surgery and CHRONIC Leaks occur 12 weeks Post surgery. A Leak occurs when the stitches that are holding the sleeve closed are no longer tight. This is also known as dehiscence, when the surgical procedure comes undone. Everyone I can't brag enough about this book. All of this I have shared is word for word from the book. Leaks are Serious complicatios and LEAKS are the most common cause of death after sleeve gastrectomy....... (coming straight from the boo) and this is not to scare anyone but this is to tell everyone to research, research I think anyone should be able to ask all these questions. Leaks occur in about 1-4 percent of gastric sleeve patients ( coming directly from the book) the author of this Book is ALEX BRECHER and NATALIE STEIN If you need info order it and read, read, read. Just thought I would share info from the book with all. Hope everyone has the very best of luck in your journeys. -
I am 61 and pre - op , going for my last visit on Wednesday, I have been going thru this process so long I am not sure what I am going to do. My first visit was may 5th or there about. I started at 280 and am 256 and was hoping to be 250 by Wednesday but it isn't going to happen. I go to the therapist appt. on Wednesday and also my surgeon's office. I am anxious to talk to my therapist and see where we go from there. Good luck to all.

By the way I wanted the band to start with and was told my surgeon may not would do the band because he was getting away from that because people had learnt to eat around the band and the NP told me the sleeve would be the best but I think if I can get the band I will be okay with the surgery but right now I am scared , so I am thinking about asking Wednesday if they will just do the BAnd.
-
KYGirlSummer, your story sounds exactly like mine , I started my weight loss supervised appointments in May and I am going for my therapist visit Wednesday and back to my surgeon also and not sure what to do. I am confused scared and just can't wait for my appointment to see what he has to say.

I am going to see Dr. Salehi on Jan. 14 and have did everything else to have the sleeve but I don't know if I am going thru it. At first I wanted to do the band but his NP told me he probably wouldn't do the band, so now I am scared and don't know what to do , I thought of just asking if they would do the band because I am so scared of the sleeve. I have did so much research and I know the surgeries inside out, I have watched them so much, I could tell anyone every step they would have to go thru on the surgeries and I have read every book I can get my hands on. I started my 6 month dr. supervised loss May 5, 2014 and am just now getting within surgery site. It is to long of a drawn out process but I am so confused right now and can't wait for my appt. on Wednesday also have an apt in Dr. Lucktong's office same day so we will see. I have lost 25 lbs.
