I haven't had surgery yet but getting close, but a lady I was talking too said she just cut hers short and she never noticed any hair loss, I am wondering if the weight of the long hair also helps make it fall out. My son in law had the surgery and he too never lost any hair. I have my wig on stand by. LOL should I need it. Good luck to all.

Lacking genuine support but hearing horror stories
hopeful one replied to Shell88's topic in Rants & Raves
Shell88, Hello and I would like to tell you I too have lost some of my support and I am due to have surgery at the very end of this year, and I am so confused right now as to what I am going to do, but I will say this and For people to say Weight Loss surgery is THE EASY WAY OUT, that to me just shows their stupidity. This surgery is going to be one of the hardest things we will ever do in our lives, , I tell people all the time from the day we have this surgery till we die we will have to be aware of every thing we put in our mouth, we know if a pound comes back on someone is going to say but once we decide to do it , we have to know the only person we need answers to is OURSELF so stay strong and do what you believe in your heart is right for you. GOOD LUCK -
Did anyone have to lose a LOT of weight to qualify for surgery?
hopeful one replied to MaureenVA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have to go thru a 6 month supervised weight loss program, so far I am in my 4th month and am down 19 lbs , but they never gave me a certain amount. This was my insurance, my surgeon first said to try and lose 10 more and then they changed it and said Just do not gain any back before surgery. I have been doing some lo carb and I should be thru my 6 month program around the mi of November, I keep telling myself if I am down 40 lbs. by Dec. 1 I may not do the surgery, my nurse at the surgeons office said 97 lbs is the average I could expect to lose so I am loading my cabinets with lo carb foods this weekend and have gotten and tried several recipes and we will see what happens.I wish all of you the very best of luck, I love reading your stories even the ones who have a backset here and there, it just keeps us pre-ops alert as to everything. I have my PSHYC appointment and my NUT apt on the 26th then back to my surgeon on the 30th so we will see, my nerves are really playing mind games with me. I think the 6 months is to long to have to wait, that is just what I feel for me personally but on the other hand it has really give lot of time to research all of this, and I have really been doing that. Good Luck to all. -
What I'm really afraid of...
hopeful one replied to *Lexie*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just thought I would share what my Surgeon 's office has told me about the 2 week pre-op Liver shrinking diet. I was told it is a very serious time because in surgery they have to LIFT the LIver to get to the stomach and by doing the 2 week pre op it takes the fat out of your liver and therefore makes it tougher, if the liver is still real fatty at time of surgery it will not be as firm and it is a possibility that it can tear and that isn't good. That is how it was explained to me, If we don't follow it and lose during that time and they start the surgery and see that the liver is still real fatty , they said they will decide whether or not to continue. It scares me but I am not quite there yet. Each Dr. is different and everyone of them has their own reason behind what they say and I would do what my Dr. told me. I really feel like we all have good Drs. some just do things different and that is what they feel is best for their patients. There is a video on youtube showing the Sleeve Gastrectomy and the Liver part. I have watched it 4-5 times. Good Luck to ALL. -
Heav85, I too have to go thru 6 months, and I am thru my 4th month, I think it is way to long, all kind of things start running thru your mind. They do this to see if we are in the mindset of really trying to lose this weight. So far I have lost 19 lbs.I go to the therapist and dietician on the 26th. Good Luck.

What AMAZING stories you'll have shared with us. Keep on Keeping on. It all sounds great, but I am petrified of all of this, still in my 6 month supervised weight loss and it will soon be over and I guess I am just letting nerves get the best of me. -
Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?

Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?
hopeful one replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Rants & Raves
@ LindafromFlorida I totally agree with you , I have gotten a lot of help from here and have met some of the nicest caring people but it really upsets me when some people ask questions and they are called stupid questions and None of us know what those people are going thru, it may be that they are just reaching out for a friend to talk to. It scares me to think of someone really needing that communication and people not taking all of that into consideration. So many people are fortunate enough to get a lot of info and it just hurts me to see them reaching out in their own way and get some of the responses that they have gotten, but it is what it is and I am sorry if I offended anyone with my post and I will just not reply anymore because I hurt for some of the people who haven't been lucky enough to be educated realy good about all of the things surrounding weight loss surgery. Again I am sorry for sounding rude . -

First let me say Roostertail I agree with you, and now.... I have intentionally stayed off of Bariatricpal.com a lot in the last couple of weeks because of some of these Hateful mouth people. There is no such thing as a STUPID QUESTION when you don't understand everything, and some of the hateful responders really are making this decision hard for some people. For those of you who are Perfect in this Journey ... Why are you on Here? I thought this sight was for people who needed to understand more and for people who were here to try and help the ones who needed more education on this subject. Your hateful mouth responses aren't needed by anyone that needs help. I will be going to my surgeons appt. tomorrow and I will tell them just how it has gotten on this sight as far as the hateful remarks that people are giving to people who need support and help. It isn't up to anyone of us to judge anybody but if someone is asking a question NO MATTER WHAT IT IS OR HOW CRAZY IT SOUNDS TO YOU KNOW IT ALLS, stop and think that some of these people never get the education as some of us do on this journey, sure they can read a book but some of them may not have money to buy the flippin book so to the ones of you that know EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS JOURNEY AND HAVE NEVER MADE A MISTAKE OR ASK A QUESTION TO GET MORE INFO STOP and think before you respond hateful or mean to someone, that person may just be someone who is so depressed that they just need someone to talk to and someone to care and now for any of you who need to ask a question or just want to talk friend me and I will do anything I can to talk with you and answer your questions and if I don't know it we will find the answer , You may send me a message , but please don't let the hateful responders bother you . That is not what this group is all about. -
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In response to Mokee, I have not had surgery yet and at this point not sure what I will do, Depression and Anxiety has set in in the last week and I am having a very hard time. Crying most of the time, Just anything can set it off,( I of course try to hide it from everyone because they don't take it serious) I am on 300 mil of Well-Butrin every day, and my Dr. asked me Friday if I thought I needed something else , I told him no but boy had I wished I had something today. I am so scared that if I go thru with this surgery it will trigger it bad and I can't take that. I do know a lot of people have this surgery and then at some point Depression sets in, and People can be so nasty about it sometimes when someone says they are having bouts of depression, but until they walked in someone's shoe who has had this awful disease they really can NEVER know what it is like. Really I don't know why I replied to your post and said all of that but I do hope and pray yours gets better and I feel for you. My prayers are with you and everyone else who is dealing with this. Good Luck.

Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?
hopeful one replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Rants & Raves
Dear Crazyweight, I too feel that some are on here that can be very cold but for the most part they are wonderful, but I feel where you are coming from , and in my post that I posted about a week ago, I talked about this very thing, No one knows what anyone has been thru, I for one have a 6 month time period and all I am doing is being educated and for the ones who don't have this my heart goes out to them. Please know that I may not know much about all of this but if you ever just need to talk about anything message me and I will listen and we can help each other. -

Why are some weight loss surgery patients so clueless?
hopeful one replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Rants & Raves
I read SOME of these posts and for the ones who are asking the questions , I really hope some of these responses don't stop anyone from asking questions no matter what type of question it is, that is what this website is for, some need to think about this , sometimes people for one reason or another have to ask questions over and over , maybe they don't understand or can't remember , all of the needs to know are so overwhelming, I find mind self reading and re-reading information and even then I don't understand it all and you know SOME PEOPLE just don't have anyone close to them that they can talk to and will ask questions just hoping someone will care enough to respond to them , so people try to understand that some are SCARED to death, some have no support, some are going thru this journey alone except for this website so be careful with the way we respond to posts no matter how you feel about the question asked, just give them an answer and know you did what you could to direct them in the right direction. -
The Big Book on Bariatric Surgery: Living Your Best Life After Weight Loss Surgery has arrived!
hopeful one replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just wanted to say that, I am really on the fence about having my surgery I am really trying to educate myself so there won't be a lot of surprises but I keep reading posts and it is sorta making me rethink this but I wanted to also say that I purchased the book "THE EMOTIONAL FIRST+AID KIT book and I feel it was a waste of money. I Loved my big book on the Gastric Sleeve and I have read it approx. 5 times but I was hoping this one would help with the Emotional Part but I wasn't impressed, and this is just my personal opinion, but if I had it to do over I would not waste the money. My big book is my surgery bible. -
