  1. I had my surgery with Dr. Zeni in Livonia. He is wonderful and has an amazing staff. Couldn't recommend him highly enough:)
  2. I think 65 pounds in four months is a wonderful weight loss. I had a stall for six weeks, ate a small amount of fat (1/4 of a steak and a bite of a cupcake) and that started things moving....also drink a lot of water.....that really helps get things moving!!! You are doing a great job, stalls happen to most people. You just have to keep positive through them!! You are doing GREAT!
  3. I had no throat pain or trouble breathing that I recall. I was very diligent about doing my breathing exercises after surgery, and crunched on ice chips all the time. The pain from the surgery was fairly bad, but I asked for pain medication at the first hint of pain and that took care of it pretty well for me. I also stayed on my pain medication at home for two weeks (because I am a wimp and hate pain of any kind). That helped me walk without much pain, which helped in my healing. The biggest advice I can offer is to move around as much as you can, which increases circulation and that aids in healing. Best of luck to you!! You will be amazed at the results, I know I have been

    Longest Stall Contest

I am just shy of my six month mark and am just coming out of a six week stall. I ate some fat, about 1/4 of a steak and a bite of a cupcake, and I think that is what did it for me. Down three pounds since Sunday, which is really good for me. I tend to stall more than lose these days, but hey, I am still losing right?

    Stall...for how long?

Wanted to offer some encouragement. After six weeks, the scale finally MOVED!!! Down three pounds since Sunday. Hang in there everyone, it is true, stalls will be broken:)

    Stall...for how long?

I have been stalled as well, week number six. Almost six months out. Seriously discouraging!!! Thin, when was your stall and what did you do, if anything, to break it??

    shoe size?

I am 51lbs down, and a half shoe size as well. Went from size 8 to 7.5, which is a DRAG because I have some beautiful shoes that now don't fit:( It is what I bought instead of cute clothes, because, well I had a hard time finding cute clothes in my size. But shoes always fit!!
  8. When, if ever, will it be safe for me to take Motrin? I started working out with weights, and my arms are killing me. Tylenol doesn't help. Thanks Doc!

    How many carbs??

I have been in a mega stall and just wanted to check with everyone what their daily carb intake is. I think mine might be too high thus the freaking mega stall. Thanks,

    Smoking---Yikes!!!

I had great luck with Zyban (which is a form of Wellbutrin) and my husband successfully quit with Chantix. We both knew that we could not quit without some drug help since we had been smokers for 25+ years and had both tried to quit twice before cold turkey. I would talk with your doctor to see if any of these drugs might be an option for you. Good Luck!

    Hair Changes

Thanks all! Chilo1, thanks for sharing your thread, it helped a lot. I did start taking Biotin and will add one more Protein shake a day, just in case. Hopefully it won't be too bad:)
  12. Hi Everyone, I am almost five months post op, and have recently noticed that my hair is thinning and the texture is different. Anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for supplements that I can take to help out? I haven't lost a lot in one place, like there are no bald Patches, it just feels thinner and ....well.....just different. Thanks!!

    Protein Shake Alternatives

Have you tried making your shakes with 4oz of Water instead of milk? That helped me anyway. Good Luck!

    head in the shed

Coops, I quit smoking three years ago.....before my surgery. I took Zyban to help me with the anxiety of not being able to have a cigarette. It wasn't the cravings that got to me, it was the anxiety about not smoking that did. My husband took Chantix and he has been smoke free for almost two years. If it gets too tough, I recommend trying to find something that can help you along the way. Good luck, and let me say that your lungs will thank you eventually!!
  15. I love John Goodman, he reminds me of my brother Dan. I say good for him, no matter how he lost the weight (he is saying that he cut out sugar, stopped drinking and started working with a personal trainer). SarahD....I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. The minute I see the scale stop moving, my little downer voice says......"great, you are going to fail at this too, and then won't everyone be disappointed in you". I actually had a little break down in yoga class yesterday because the scale has stopped.....again......and I couldn't do may of the poses in class....was really having a pity party. Instead of celebrating the fact that I have lost 37 pounds and doing a pretty darn good job in my second yoga class.....I let myself get caught up in negative. Gosh, why does this have to be such a difficult process? Anywho.....good for you John Goodman!
