"slow Losers" And Long Term Results?
Elyse replied to Carly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Carly, I am almost 2 years out from my sleeve. I started my journey at 304 pounds and am now at 170 pounds. My goal weight is 140 lbs so I am still 30 lbs from goal and I have def been a slow loser ( or at least I feel I have) Most girls I have talked to have reached goal in less than 2 years. But I myself feel that I couldnt of lost 160 lbs in 2 years if I wanted to! I am in no rush to "get to goal." Sometimes its hard to not compare ourselves with others, but I am convinced that slow and steady wins a race. I have been in this darn stall for 6 weeks and am ready to see the numbers moving. But enjoy this journey and all the NSV's along the way. You will do just fine! -

Dear Stallers And Not Losing Weighters
Elyse replied to SkinnyOnMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for these great words of wisdom Shadayo! I have been one of those people who have posted on the forums stressing out about my stalls. My husband did me a favor and took the batteries out of my scale. He lets me weigh once a week. I was driving myself crazy if I didnt see the numbers going down. I became quite obsessed with the darn scale. I now focus on all the wonderful things I can do being 130 lbs lighter and know that I am not quite done losing weight. NSV's are MUCH more rewarding than any number the scale can say. -

I can completely understand this. My husband is tall and thin as well and can eat whatever he wants and not gain a pound. Even at 18 months out my husband will offer me sweets and whatnot that he KNOWS I dont eat. It will take him some time to get used to the new changes in your eating habits. It can be frustrating at times haha

Hi Everyone, I had my follow-up appointment with my surgeon today. I had written on the forums a little while ago asking advice for this horrible 4 week stall I have been on. For those of you who dont know me a little bit of background for you: I was sleeved January 25th, 2011. At my highest weight I weighed 304. I am only 5 ft 4. Today at almost 18 months post-op I weighed 173.5! 130 lbs gone forever! I have struggled throughout my journey but can honestly say that I have not one single regret! My blood work all came back perfect. Pre-op I had high cholesterol, I was on medicine for type II diabetes, I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 15 and hardly ever had a period. I also suffered from bad sleep apnea. At age 22, I was a wreck. Now I take no prescription medication, I have had a regular period AND ovulated every month for the past year. I have never felt so good. I was also cleared to try and become pregnant. Although my goal weight is 145# my surgeon told me that I was healthy enough to start trying now. This is a HUGE NSV for me! I have always wanted children and pre-op was told that my chances of having children was slim to none. I probably will not be having children for at least another year ( Im a nursing student and have enough on my plate!) but nevertheless this was wonderful news for me. Basically, I want to be an inspiration for others. Those who havent been sleeved yet, I know how nerve wrecking and hard it can be, as well as the flood of emotions you feel. You are making a huge commitment to your life. But I can promise you that you will not regret your decision. It takes a leap of faith and a great deal of courage to go through weight loss surgery but the benefits are neverending. To those that have already been sleeved, whether your 2 days post-op or 2 years post-op I encourage you to enjoy your journey. Be patient and take it one day at a time. I have been notorious for getting bent out of shape when the scale isnt moving the way I want it. It is important to enjoy yourself at every weight and enjoy watching yourself become a healthier, happier you. This website is full of such wonderful people with a plethora of great knowledge. I feel blessed to be a part of such a great community. Good luck to all of you! "The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible."

I am a year and a half out and my sleeve loves just about everything. Of course my eating habits have changed so much now. I keep relatively low carb since I ALWAYS eat my protein first, which leaves little room for carbs. I dont feel like I am missing out though (thats one of the greatest things about the sleeve) I eat what I want and make good decisions and always in moderation! I have been very fortunate. The only thing that makes me really queasy is milk. Best of luck to you!

Hi There! I had the sleeve surgery about a year and a half ago. At my highest I weighed 304 lbs and now I weigh 175 lbs with my goal weight being about 145 lbs. One of the main reasons I had surgery was so I could have a family of my own. Before surgery I hardly ever had a period. I was diagnosed at age 15 with PCOS. I was told by my OB-GYN that the chances of me getting pregnant were slim to none. Since about 3 months post-op I had a period and ovulated every month religiously!! Now I was told to be very careful because the chances of me getting pregnant were very good. I will be seeing my surgeon next week and I def want to ask him about getting pregnant! Its the most wonderful feeling knowing that a family will be in my future. Best of Luck!

I eat pickles all the time and my sleeve loves them! I roll them up in lunch meat and they give you that satisfying crunch! YUM!

Hi There! I am 23 and at my biggest weighed 304 lbs. I was always a larger girl who spent most of her teen years around 230-250. I now weigh 175 lbs and do have a bit of excess skin. I was nervous about the excess skin pre-op too. I was told that since I was so young, the chances of my skin snapping back was good. Some of it did, some of it didnt. My excess skin now is mostly in my arms and tummy. Honestly though, excess skin is the least of my worries. I would almost say I wear my excess skin like a prize. I am the tiniest I have ever been since 8th grade! I have lost an entire person in weight and I am healthy, which is something that I never in my wildest dreams imagined! I would much rather been skinny and have some excess skin than be fat and have tight skin. When you get further out from surgery I am sure you will feel this way too. There are surgery options for excess skin if it really is bothersome to you. Dont fret too much though, I dont think you have much to worry about at all! Best of luck!

My nutritionist like yours was very lax on carbs as well. She actually encouraged me to eat a little bit of healthy carbs every day, especially if I am exercising. During the losing phase I try to stay around 40. I'll eat oatmeal in the morning and some Carbmaster yogurt as a snack in the evening. I think it really depends on how carbs affect your body and weight loss. I find that if I keep my carbs low, the weight seems to come off fairly steady. I am currently in a 4 week stall and will probably try uping my carbs a little bit to see if that makes the scale drop at all.

I'm So Discouraged And So Disappointed
Elyse replied to Calicolea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happens and the pounds will come off. I have been in a stall for 4 weeks and I am about ready to throw the scale out the window. You are doing all the right things! Keep it up and you'll push through!
