NEWS: Woman GAINS 85lbs on purpose to qulify for gastric bypass
Rootman posted a topic in The Lounge
http://abcnews.go.co...ory?id=12720809 Boy I sure hope it works out for her. -
I was sleeved Dec 6 2010 and I still get a film. It is a nasty yellow stuff that coats my tongue, it's better than it was the first weeks but still present. I went to the drug store and got a tongue scraper and scrape my tongue every time I brush. I also use orange Listerine at every brush too. If I were to hazard a guess I would say it's from burning a lot of fat rather than the carbs / Protein directly from food? This is just a guess.

December 2010 Sleevers!
Rootman replied to BZButterfly79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 12/6/11 and down 70lbs. I'm in the same boat as hugs, insufficient protein and water as well as calories for that matter, I sometimes get as little as 400 to 700 calories a day. My back is killing me and I wonder if I'm adsorbing muscle from that area. -
First night out since surgery!!

HAS ANYONE GOTTEN THEIR SLEEVE IN TIJUANA MEXICO?
Rootman replied to andre's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

THe only thing I would consider is the fact that you should choose high protein items instead of vegs. Pureed meat, beans etc.

Best wishes!

Milk of magnesia did the trick for me - if you can swallow the vile stuff.

pro's / con's to being honest about having surgery
Rootman replied to newmefeb8's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd advocate ALWAYS being honest, it's just a rule of mine. It's hard to remember a lie too. Now WHO you tell I'd advise being judicious about. And if there is someone that is a real naysayer that might try and make you miserable then I'd think about not telling them YET, or not telling them at all and just never bring up the suject. -
How long til cleared for travel?
Rootman replied to jencomenz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep, ThatDudesMom is right, wait till after. You'll be especially nauseated at the sight of all that food! Like she said, have a last blast, pig out THEN go on the pre-op diet and have surgery. If you were to develop - God forbid - any kind of problems it is VERY expensive to get you off the boat and back to a hospital. I'm sure whoever you are traveling with will appreciate it too. -
Sliding Hernia Repair?
Rootman replied to DisneyAddict's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, they can cause that feeling, mine caused me to feel an actual choking sensation when food got stuck at the base of the esophagus in the hernia. They usually pull the herniated are back into the abdomen and then reinforce the are with a netting material to prevent it from sliding back up. Take a look at Youtube for more info: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=hiatal+hernia&search=Search -
Is this the way I'm suppose to feel
Rootman replied to hopeandfaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember the same sensation. All the pain killers were out of my bloodstream and the swelling started to subside. I think it's from being stretched by the gas that's pumped into your belly during surgery. It subsides aa the healing progresses. You MAY also be feeling acid pain too, I eventually had to start on Prilosec because of the upset feeling I had - each person feels it differently, some pain some just upset. -
Sip, Burp! Sip, Burp! When will it end?
Rootman replied to Foxbins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, it gets BETTER but may not entirely subside. You have significantly less capacity now so there is a lot less room for gas now too, while SOME of it might of been reabsorbed before - now it must come out. Eat slowly and try not to swallow air - a tough thing to NOT do. Push your food to the roof of your mouth and try to minimize the amount of space it takes in your mouth and swallow. Don't suck on straws till the gurgle at the bottom either. -
WooHoo! You go girl!
-
Me too, never used a straw outside a restaurant (don't ask me why). Use 'em all the time now.

Well, I'm a dummy. I've seen the acronym NSV several times here and I still don't know what it means. Can someone 'splain me?

landed @ san diego airport..
Rootman replied to pneal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I wish you well, I was in the same boat, all alone in MX. There will be SOMEONE there going through the same thing I am sure, you can probably hang with them for support. Remember WALK, WALK, WALK to work off the gas and nausea afterward. Not to scare you but be prepared the worst part for ME was AFTER the surgery, I went back to San Diego to a hotel the night before you are typically discharged, I just didn't want to do the USA customs AND airport security in the same day. I sat there in my hotel and nearly barfed a few times, cried pretty bad and felt totally drained and just wanted to go home. I was so lonely and stressed out. I'm a big tough guy too Hope your experience is better. -
Sleeved Dec 6, 2010 Same here, took better part of an hour to finish breakfast at first, not I'm down to 15 minutes or so. I am NEVER hungry and as I've posted elsewhere I get really turned off by what I'm eating and have to actually force myself to eat the rest. I still eat maybe a 1/2 cup to 1 cup (depends on density) of food a meal. Been loosing like crazy but I actually need a few more calories and a lot more protein.

Congrats, I wear a CPAP too. Been having a hell of a time with leaks till it dawned on me to tighten the straps - seems my head isn't as fat as it used to be anymore I too look forward to being rid of the dreaded thing, the cotton mouth in the morning is the worst - even though I have a heated humidifier on it. I've had to crank up the heat on it way past where I normal had it, I am so dry after the surgery, some days I wake up and can't even speak my mouth is so parched. I went to bed at 8PM last night because I was tired from a tough day, woke up at my normal time just before 6am to an awful smell, I thought my wife was burning our morning eggs, after it got worse I woke up enough to realize the humidifier was out of Water and the tank was starting to burn YIKES! Don't know yet if I ruined the tank or heater but that was scary, I could of asphyxiated myself.

Help! 3 weeks out and I've stopped losing weight
Rootman replied to TynMcsMom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep, been there done that - today in fact - gained a pound back. Water plays a big part, we can retain quite a bit, 10 lbs or more according to some. It makes a difference if you have a bowel movement too. I would advise to switch to a weekly weigh in rather than daily, then you won't get discouraged with the "bumps" in the road. -
Well unless your really pigging out on the stuff a little should be OK. Remember that decaff STILL contains SOME caffeine and with as low a food / caloric intake it may effect you more than usual. Caffeine is a diuretic too and may exacerbate any tendancy to being dehydration during the first few weeks after the sleeve. coffee may not sit on the tummy well either - but you have to judge this. Remember - moderation!
-
No it will not, the staples are titanium which is NON ferrous - which means non magnetic. The therefore will not be attracted to the giant magnet. The will show up BLACK on the MRI so you should advise whoever is interpreting the MRI that you've been sleeved.

Tri Care said NO! But have other questions
Rootman replied to poohmsg's topic in Insurance & Financing
One of these days I'm going to write a post about why NOT to get your sleeve surgery in Mexico to answer a lot of these questions and bring up issues concerning this. BTW, I got my surgery in Mexico in December. While I suspect that most places, even Mexican, have some standards I have YET to hear of one person being turned down by them. If you have the cash and are fat they would probably operate on you the same day. I went here: http://www.hospitaljerusalem.com.mx/ paid $5000 out of pocket (which MAY of been less than my co-pay & etc. had I gone with insurance) plus travel and hotel for 3 nights. I am satisfied and realize I got exactly what I paid for. I've lost, well, look at my banner below. It's been a LOT easier than ANY diet I have EVER been on. I have some concerns on the fact that so far it has decimated my appetite and I am struggling to down more than 600 calories a day and I'm not getting quite enough Protein either. I hope this will get better - other's with longer experience with the sleeve have suggested it will. WHY I CHOOSE MEXICO: I was having a LOT of health problems at 375 lbs and gaining - blood sugar was all over the place, BP was elevated, pulmonary problems made worse by my weight and joint problems. I never pursued insurance, I was privy to a conversation about 2 others in my company that have been "yanked around" by insurance for well over a year trying to get bariatric surgery. I just didn't want to wait, quite frankly I didn't think I would make it another year. It was the right choice for ME.
