    Endoscope???

Yes, what Mom said above. There may be a slight chance that you have a constriction or adhesion. Get it checked out.

    Sour Stomach

Probably excess acid. Beware of taking Calcium carbonate tablets though (Tums) as it and dehydration may lead to kidney stones. Try another type of acid reducer. A Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) (Prilosec ) is going to be your best bet as it actually reduces the mount of acid rather than just neutralizes it.

    Water Intake

A common amount cited around here is 64 ozs which is half a gallon. I know I MIGHT get that amount on a good day, I sip, sip, sip all day. Most liquids count, caffeinated coffee and tea might be a wash since they have caffein which is a diuretic. "Smart" Water ,Gatorade and vitmin waters certainly count but are probably just a waste of money, plain ol' tap water will do just fine. If the bland taste is too much for you then mix in a little sugar free non calorie flavoring in it, Crystal Light, sugar free Koolaid or equivalent, what ever floats your boat and keeps you drinking.

    Feeling Bad

Well you'll have to fess up to the doc and tell him. He'll either postpone th op or shrug it off. Having said that I was chatting with two orderlies when I left the hospital both of which had GSV's, BOTH pigged out the NIGHT before surgery. They were deathly ill after surgery and both got constipated, so it might happen that way for you too if your doc says to go ahead.
  7. We all wish you the best. Keep us informed..

    3 month supervised diet

Boy, if ever I heard a reason to switch doctors it's this one. I'd dump him as soon as you get the surgery committed. I personally know one person that was told by his nutritionist that he had to STOP loosing weight on hid supervised diet or he would be disqualified. He was massive with a BMI of over 50 and several co-morbidities. This just goes to show that something as serious as this can still be a "game" to some and exploited by both sides. I'm certainly not telling you to gain weight but I'd be careful with your diet.

    vitamins

B12 sub-lingual should be available at Walmart or Walgreens or USA. The reason for the sub=lingual is that it is normally largely adsorbed in the stomach and since we not longer HAVE much of a stomach it doesn't work well in a tablet. The sub-lingual simply dissolve in your mouth quickly and adsorb through the delicate thin mouth tissues. I would STRONGLY advise against calcium CARBONATE in favor of calcium citrate. C. CARBONATE is like TUMS or Rolaids and daily use may contribute to very painful kidney stones. I found this out the hard way .

11 days post-op and, oh, the constipation!!

Mirilax is the BEST, it is basically just a super polyethylene glycol absorber that your body CANNOT digest. It goops up in your intestine and allows you to push it all through. It is very gentle and you will not become dependent on it. Start with a full cap a day then once moving try 1/2 cap a day and adapt to what you need from there. WARNING: I've found that a generic version just does not do the same as the name brand, you'd think that something like polyethylene glycol would be the same but it's not, the generic just would not do it for me. YMMV IANAD
  11. Stick with it, because YES "it gets better". I had to fly back home my third day and was back to work my fourth so you can push through this.
  12. What Disney said above. While it is certainly true that some do NO pre-op diet I am of the firm opinion that it can do you no harm and only good will come of it. It will get the food out of your gut so post-op constipation and difficult or painful movements will be less likely. It will also get your head ready and you will really know you are serious about this lifestyle change.
  13. Welcome to the forum MollyMc. The pre-op diet is essential for super obese patients like you and me, it helps the liver shrink so as to not be so fatty during the operation, this is so that it won't be in harms way during the operation and make the surgeons field of view larger. Messing up on the pre-op diet is relative. Sneak in a few bites of a hamburger is OK, eating 2 whole burgers and a side of fries with a shake is not. If you are at all concerned then call your surgeon and get their take on it. Stick with it girl, you can do it.
  14. Isn't that the stuff that is also kinda sour too? I used to get that quite a bit when I was a kid on my way home from school. If it's the stuff I remember it had a wonderful bitter sweet intense fruity flavor. I'd probably barf with it in my mouth now but I used to love it.

    Hic-ups

Yeah, got nasty vicious hic-ups that felt like they were going to turn my stomach inside out. The nerves in the stomach are disturbed - actually more like CUT OFF and for some reason the diaphragm interprets that as a need to hic-up. I used to get them regularly when I ate to fast and still do occasionally when I push the boundaries and eat a bite or two more than I should.
  16. Very similar feelings here. I have noticed that I quickly ramp up to the FULL / SATIATED feeling - something I would always ignore pre-sleeve know full well I could always eat more. No, after the next bite or two I get a sudden cramp like warning - ENOUGH! The few times I've ignored THAT the next bite was similar to your experience, immediate nausea, sweating and the feeling it was coming back up. It lasts from 5 to 20 minutes while I writhe in pain turning bright red in the face. Frothy spit comes up and I hock it into a napkin or waste basket. Thankfully I have NOT thrown up, I absolutely HATE barfing. I typically find that when I am eating while watching TV or chatting it sneaks up on me and I take to the pain level. It's only happened 3 or 4 times now, enough that I should know better. The feelings are subtle and come on fast, so the key again is chew, chew, chew and eat SLOWLY. Once you get the subtle FULL signal, STOP! You will NOT like what the next few ites will bring. Strict adherence to measured portions also helps. Know what you CAN eat and put no more than that on your plate.
  17. Welcome! And congrats on the success so far, keep us posted.
  18. I agree with Tiff, because it's on the tongue and not the gums and throat I would say it's from ketosis rather than thrush. As she said get a tongue scraper and try a mouthwash, I use an orange flavored as it seems to cut the bad taste best. You may have to do it 3 to 4 times a day to get relief, after each meal and before bed. I'm going on 4 months out and by the end of the day I still get it.

    Voice Change post op?

Strange, I've experienced the same thing. My voice is weak most days after work. Not sure how this could be, perhaps the loss of fat and limited calories?

UHC and the 6 month "failed diet" attempt

Well I personally know of one person who was losing weight on their 6 month prescribed diet and was told on the sly by their NUT that if they continued to lose weight they would become ineligible, they were over a BMI of 50 too. He was "advised" to not lose weight but not to gain to much else they be deemed psychologically unfit due to food addiction. He meaintained weight and the final weigh in was within 5 pounds of his first weigh in. It CAN be a real crock if the insurance company decides to use it as an excuse to deny people. BEWARE that I am NOT advocating gaining weight or not being honest during your diet.I am merely sharing someone's experience.

    Need to belch

The carbonation / stretching thing is basically not true. Since you are belching the gas is coming OUT. And a sip will not introduce enough gas to make it stretch. Ginger ail will also help settle your stomach - if it's made iwth REAL ginger that is. SLEEVERS ALSO: Beware and-acids that are made with Calcium carbonate - like Tums and Maalox. Excess calcium carbonate can lead to kidney stones. I've had 2 bouts of this and it is VERY painful. Drink a LOT of wate if you insist on taking CC.

how long til this goes away? Yuck.

This is called Dunlop disease, your belly dun lop over your belt It MAY or MAY NOT "go away" depending on your skins ability to shrink with the weight loss. Each person is different with some having very supple skin that shrinks with weight loss, some's skin will not shrink and gets baggy. Only time will tell.
  23. Yep, wut swilly sed. Use Crystal Light or Sugar Free Cool-Aid, what ever you have a taste for. You might want to dilute it so it isn't quite as strong - I know I do.

    Reflux help

Quite a few actually. The most common fix is a Proton Pump Inhibitor like Prilosec OTC. It works well. A word of caution - don't take Calcium carbonate aka Tums. This can build up in the kidneys and cause kidney stones - very painful.
  25. I'm in the same boat girl, stuck at 285 for a week now. I briefly flirted with 284 but went up a pound the next day. Examine your diet make sure your not slipping something in that is increasing your caloric intake. If everything looks OK then just give it more time. It will come off. Some say that a slight increase in carbs might get it moving again. I'm not sure about this.
