    low heartrate???

Nope, maintained a high heart rate probably due to obesity till just recently, it has dropped somewhat since then with weight loss and increased exercise. Maybe the result of meds?
  3. I was at about 130 pounds lost at 6 months. For ONCE in my life I actually had exceptional results in somethings I have done.
  4. Well I risk censure on the board and say that you both are pretty foxy ladies, if I were younger and single . . .

    The staples

Boy, you must have better eyes than I do cause mine aren't visible NOW let alone later . YES, they get wrapped up in scar tissue and if you were to look at them through the abdominal wall, like laproscpoically after a few months they would be totally engulfed in scar tissue. They will always be visible on x-rays and other scan tech. Titanium is almost indestructable so they would last MANY lifetimes, even if they WOULD dissolve eventually the scar tissue will not and it will keep your stomach together.

    The staples

Yep, everything went fine, felt like crap and was nauseous on and off for the first month or so. Would do it again in a heart beat.

    The staples

Titanium, they'll still be in your gut when they bury you in the grave.
  8. Did he define "extreme pressure" ? This is a new one on me, I've never heard of anyone complaining about it before for ANY laproscopic surgery done in the front abdominal wall.
  9. Yes, something like this should be reported IMMEDIATELY, the description of ROCK HARD scares me. Better safe than sorry.

    pain after surgery

I too had very little pain but a LOT of nausea and just felt plain crappy for the first month or so. I had pain pills I was supposed to take every 6 hours or "as needed" and simply took one at bedtime to help me sleep a little better.

How Easy Is It to Stretch The Sleeve?

Well, better late than never as my mother used to say. The stomach is a stretchy thing and still retains SOME of it's elasticity after surgery. YES you can stretch the sleeve but even if you stretch it to +100% of it's size it will still only hold a small amount compared to what it used to hold. It will shrink back up just as easily. And you will be VERY uncomfortable stretching it out much at all. So don't worry about it, it'll still be small even stretched, if you are eating LESS of the RIGHT foods and losing weight it's working.
  12. If you have excessive fat to burn and are eating SOME caloric intake and getting adequate Vitamins then it is completely healthy to eat that few calories. Yes, your body does some things to slow down the metabolism and effectively go into "starvation mode" but it cannot maintain it, eventually the signals that tell the body to not burn the precious fat resources it has packed away for years HALT and the body MUST burn fat in order to survive. Muscle can also be digested as well and this is why you need to eat enough Protein and exercise some to maintain the lean muscle mass. The body cannot break the laws of physics, it needs energy to survive and gets that energy though food and deposits a portion of the excess that's left as body fat. Don't eat enough and the body slows down, nails, hair and skin slow down their growth, SOME cell division slows down, you get weary and tired. Keep up the low calories (LOW - not NONE or say a ridiculously low amount like 300) and the body reabsorbs and uses the fat as energy. If the body STAYED in starvation mode you would get very week and probably get very sick or die - like anorexics do.
  13. I drink Boost pretty regularly, IMHO I think they are pretty much the same. A LOT of NUTs don't like any of the pre-prepared drinks for various reasons. I drink the Boost brand because it has less sugar and they are smaller in size - at 6+ months out I can barely gag one of these things down anyway, too sweet tasting for my tastes post-op.
  14. I'm not a doctor but this really flies in the face of most everything I've read about how nutrition works. I was always under the impression that the stomach broke down the food and churned it up into adsorbable mush before passing it to the intestines for all the nutrition to be adsorbed there. With the exception of Vitamin B12 I've never heard of much of anything being adsorbed into the stomach. I would think if this were the case that we sleevers would all be suffereing from maladsorbtion issues like people who have had conventional bypasses. I would think that perhaps edible Protein would typically be better because it's not as processed and probably doesn't contain nearly as much sugar and preservatives, beyond that I wouldn't think it would make much difference. And YES, you will pass Liquid Protein pretty fast through the stomach and not get a full feeling from it, but if it's just supplemental to fairly "normal" meal that sleevers eat it might not matter, it would depend on you as an individual. Anyone else have any knowledge on this subject of stomach adsorbtion of nutrients, especially protein?

    100 Lbs gone forever!

    Congrats! Way to go!
  16. Just a WAG but I would guess that only one patient in 100 comes away feeling fine all throughout the recovery and first few months - for the rest of the 99 of use shmoes we wonder WTF did I do to myself? I was afraid I was going to die for a while, then after I didn't I was afraid I wasn't going too. It's completely natural and as Chilo stated, you'll start to lose weight and feel better.

    SWEATING all the time.....

I suffered from hyper hydrosis (excessive sweating) all my life, even a skinny little child I would bust out in a sweat at the slightest amount of effort, even cold northern weather had no effect and I often got hot and sweaty and soaked to the skin in the middle of winter while doing anything - including walking - out doors in the winter. Of course getting fat just made it that much worse. The effects of my heat sensitivity post-op are nothing short of dramatic. I no longer sweat excessively just what I would consider a normal amount and I no longer get red i the face either and to tell you the truth I don't even really feel uncomfortable in the heat. We went motorcycle riding yesterday in nearly 90 degree heat, something I would of avoided like the plague in years prior. I was comfortable and felt fine. When we stopped for supper I was just the slightest bit sweaty, most of which I got from sitting in traffic the last few miles heading for the restaurant. I pile the blankets on at night and use my electric bed pad every night - even so far this early summer. I used to always have a fan blowing at night in bed and all day at work, not any more. Every morning I used to have to leave the bad covers turned down to allow the sheets to dry from my sweat. Our darker sheets often had a ring of salt around them every morning too. I've not read much on what could cause such an immediate and complete reversal of this life long issue. The only thing I can even seem to consider is that severing of the lower part of the vagas nerve that was on the portion of the part of my stomach that was removed. I've read where severing this nerve can stop hyper hydrosis but it is typically up near the heart and not down in the abdomen at the lower stomach. I wish I knew the answer but am glad for the results non the less.

    Vanity Sizing

That's why I shop at Walmart, there I'm a medium, everywhere else I'm a 2X Stolen from Larry the Cable Guy.
  19. Congrats, that's a big step. 250 is exciting too - you'll be there before you know it.

    Constipation

I found it was not possible for me to eat enough roughage to clear this up, I instead rely on Mirilax, 1/2 cap daily. It has been an issue for me for decades so it's ongoing for me.
  21. So TWICE today two ladies mentioned that I should NOT lose any more weight, I am 242 pounds and technically still obese. I am down to a size 38 pants and size large under clothes and shirt. I'm not really THAT skinny yet, but I am considerably smaller than I was. When I mentioned that I should lose about 60 more pounds they both practically threw a fit and insisted I don't need to lose any more. I mean it's nice to be made a fuss over by why so pushy and negative? I don't remember being so pushy when I was fat. And I hate to even bring it up but is it just a woman thing? Do I present that much of a "threat" to them by getting thin? Sorry for any toes I may have stepped on.
  22. Most surgeons use a figure of 60 to 65 percent of excess weight lost to consider your surgery a success. I don't know why they use these figures instead of like 75 or 90 percent but I've heard the 60/65 percent figure from a few people here on the board. Today I did my weekly weigh in and was down to 242 pounds from a high of 375 pounds! That a tad more than 65 percent of my excess weight gone! I NEVER thought I see the day when I weighed this little again. I'd publish some pictures but like most fat people I never liked getting my picture taken and when I did I'd hide behind someone or something to hid my ponderous size. So ya'll just have to trust me on this.
  23. YIKES! That BMI calculator produced the lowest weight yet at 169 pounds, that just doesn't seem possible. I haven't weighed that little since gade school and I was shorter. Neat tool but it seems a little on the extreme side.

    Sunkist Protein Shots

So can anyone compare the taste of these to the Super Whey Protein Shots? I can hardly stand these, the nasty aftertaste is the worst.

    I have the worst luck

Yep, we feel your pain, you want to get this adventure on the road, but like the above posters said, it'll be here afore you know it! Then you'll be cursing the day you did it for a few days or weeks - but this passes quickly too.
