  1. I echo what Miss Diva said, especially the cold senstivity and the changed tastes. I absolutly LOVE pepper on stuff now, whereas I hated it before.
  2. Congrats! It's a great feeling. Keep up the good work.

    Nsv I Think?

Keep it up and you;'ll start a new style trend
  5. Well, another 3 months under my belt (see my first post above) and the insomnia is still the same or even worse. In another thread another poster mentioned that the doctor got them OFF of B12 supplements because they were getting too much, a Quick Google of the side effects of excess B-12 produced a few sites that said that INSOMNIA and PARANOIA were side effects of overdosing on B12. So I'm off it all together for a while to check if it makes a difference. Seems that excessive B12 overstimulates the Thyroid and can cause psych symptoms. I know I've felt really uneasy for months and can never quite nail down what is wrong. So I'll try and post back if it makes a difference after a few days. B12 is Water soluble so it flushes out of your system fairly fast.
  6. My advice: Let it slide. Some people are just a$$holes and there is nothing you can do to change it. If you get what you need from them then just ignore them. I know it's hard and I know I've wanted to slap the **** out of some "professionals" of nearly any ilk but I've learned the hard way to pick my battles. making a fuss over stuff like this will not offer any victory and chances are the jerks will just subvert your progress towards your goal. They are not worth it and YOU are better than that. Just my 2 cents, sorry for the language.
  7. I've battled this my entire adult life. I drink a glass of Crystal Lite with 1/2 cap of Mirilax in it AND 6 prunes AND drink a ridiculous amount of liquid and I can stay fairly regular. All this and I STILL have to take stool softeners every few weeks. Keep up whatever works for you because the diet we have DOES make it worse if you're prone to these troubles.

    Throat

Sounds like thrush or just tonsil rocks. Try a good mouth wash gargle, if it doesn't let up in a few days see the doc.
  9. This is OT: MoonSiren - I've heard of people having the issue you mention of acne when sleeping on a pillow, sleeping on your back is certainly one way to alleviate this. Just in case you ever go back to stomach sleeping, I've heard of folks pinning a towel around their pillow as a pillow case and changing it DAILY works wonders.
  10. I don't recall significant pain after a few weeks, especially a pain like what you mention. My sister is prone to adhesions after surgery, she describes her pain as much like you do. I have to agree with the above poster - see your doctor, better safe than sorry..

The One Time I Follow The Rules

WOW! Thanks for posting this, I just cruised the web looking for side effects of too much B12 : Here's one site: http://www.ehow.com/facts_5147896_much-vitamin-side-effects.html I have been having VERY bad insomnia as of late, I've fought it all my adult life but it's been absolutely terrible lately. I've also been downing 3 EmergenC drinks a week to acidify my urine trying to combat kidney stones, the drink has over 400% RDA of B12 in them as well. Without going to the doctors and getting tested I am wondering if I'm getting too much. I am especially cranky and having a hard time psychologically as well as sleep deprived. The things we learn!

    Nsv - Loving This!

Yeah, I now LOVE booths and like you avoided them like the plague, in fact now I fond they are sometimes TOO big and I find myself having to scoot forward in order to reach the table if the table is anchored. It's great to share a booth side with wifey too! Just like we used to decades ago.
  13. Most have already been posted Horseback riding Swim a mile and a half in one hour Reach every part of my body Bend over and pick up something I dropped without gasping and turning red in the face Buy clothes off the rack from ANY store Look down and see Mr. Winky witout stretching my neck :0 Walk ANYWHERE without wheezing and sweating to death Hug my wife and she can touch her hands behind my back Feel my bones!
  14. I don't know how many times I've gotten the question asked in a weird leery voice "Are you feeling alright?", which apparently is code-speak for "Do you have cancer or something?". I do for the most part appreciate the comments but dang, just come out and ask wouldja'! NO, I'm not sick just lost weight!
  15. This topic has been around the block a few times and there is no real consensus or absolute reason for the chill - especially immediately after surgery. I too woke up from surgery cold and over one year later am still cold. These have been mentioned: Less ghrelin as a large portion of the stomach where it's produced is cut away. Increased fat burning as the caloric intake is way down, the body is trying to conserve the fat resources it has so diligently squirreled away for years. Metabolic drop - paired with above, the body is trying to keep from burning fat. Severing of the vegus nerve? The vegus nerve runs down through the thoracic cavity to all the major organs and terminates in the stomach. Hyper hydrosis (excessive sweating) is "cured" by cutting this nerve but the nerve is severed MUCH further up than the stomach. This MIGHT be a factor though as it would explain the immediate chilling right after surgery Lack of carbs which burn up rapidly and can improve the bodies thermal efficiency. These might also play a factor later as fat loss occours Lack of thermal mass - you're smaller and carry less insulation, less mass also produces less heat with physical effort. Excessive blood flow to the skin - your skin is stretched when you gain weight and more capillaries are formed, the skin and capillaries are NOT readily reabsorbed when fat loss occurs and the skin with the greater number of blood vessels now covers a smaller, more compact body which is producing less heat, the blood vessels are carrying the heat away more effectively. This is a pet theory of mine and may NOT be even true, I've yet to hear from a medical expert on it's possible validity.
  16. Yes, benefiber or Mirilax is OK to take. I've taken 1/2 cap of Mirilax a day for years, before the sleeve and right through till now. Drink LOTS of extra water too.
  17. This topic will show a lot of opinions. Most say NO to Water with meals as it will help wash the food through your stomach (sleeved or not ) and allow you to eat more, sooner than if you DON'T drink with a meal. This has been a diet "tip" for everyone for years and yes it certainly CAN allow you to eat more, sooner and perhaps let you get hungry sooner. If hunger is a problem, and you are not disciplined enough to NOT eat more than your measured portion then I would advise NOT drinking with the meal as instructed. I however, cannot do this, I absolutely MUST drink with my meals, partly because I need the Fluid (I get kidney stones and need a LOT of water) and the fact that I have a schatzki ring, a narrowing of the esophagus and the water helps flush the food through it. So IF you can do it, it's a good idea, if you can't then just try and limit the amount with meals if any of the above problems rear their ugly heads.
  18. I too have received the cold shoulder from friends - all fat friends too. Seems I've "abandoned them" or they feel that I am trying to show them up, which is NOT true. I've also received a lot of attention from the opposite sex, a lot of comments and even one friend of my wifes who was practically leering at me and acted like she had never met me before, which is probably true from her standpoint she is a skinny little lady and I was just a fat invisible blob to her prior to weight loss.
  19. Liquids pass through pretty quickly after a brief stop in the stomach. This is why a lot of people suggest NOT drinking with meals as it tends to wash the food right through the stomach with the liquid. I have no issues with it and need to drink with meals as I have to drink a LOT of water to prevent kidney stones.
  20. I've never hear about it before and it does NOT sound like it's real, however a simple test would be to STOP the caffeine and see if your symptoms go away.

Is It Normal To Feel Like This

Yep, I was worried too. But I did my homework and came away satisfied I was making the right choice. 1 year and ~170 pounds gone and I am certainly convinced. Some people DO fail, either they have severe food issues and the sleeve simply slows them down for a while and they are right back to the old bad habits. A VSG being a surgical procedure where you are anesthetized, intubated and a portion of a major organ is removed there IS risk and a few poor individuals have complications and in a few, very few cases some even die. It's not a decision to be made lightly. I would recommend seeing if there is a support group near you where you can actually speak to people going through the same issues as you and others who are recovering and other who are well along in the process. I wish you well friend, what ever your decision!
  22. It varies per person, a year out and I'm still on them.
  23. YES for me too. I use 'em all the time. The "too much air" reason is BS. When I suck on a straw I suck the liquid into my mouth, break the vacuum and then swallow. I get no more air then I do by drinking straight from the glass.
  24. It EXCEEDS expectations. I had worries (as everyone does) that it would not work and I would still be insatiably hungry. My "bad" effects from the sleeve are minimal, I had a long bout of nausea and a lot of gurgling and discomfort but no real pain. This eased up totally after about 1 month. I have a lot of excess stomach acid and am on a PPI (Omiprazol), while it is true that the majority of the acid pumps are cut off what are left still over run the small sleeve that's left. I may be on a PPI for a long time or even life. It's a small price to pay. I now seldom get hungry, at least the hungry I used to feel - my stomach screaming "FEED ME" all the time. Now when I am really, really hungry it's just a small nuisance and I fill up fast. The weight just literally fell off and I felt no ILL effects from it. I did not drink enough Water so I had a few bouts of kidney stones, so now I drink a ridiculous amount of water to keep them flushed. It is without a doubt the BEST thing I have done for my health EVER.
  25. At least for me! It was one year ago today that I got sleeved. I CANNOT figure out where this year has gone too, it is all a blur. It is hard to believe that one whole year and 170 pounds are lost - hopefully forever!
