  1. I've read several people say how cold foods and drinks really don't set well with them or cause stomach spasms. I am just curious if this is something that has continued to be the case for you or is it something that went away after a couple months?
  2. Got all my pre-op testing done at Heartland today. Kind of made it more real...13 days to go!

  3. Hey Deb. Yeah I start my preop tomorrow. I am so dreading it, but I am looking forward to losing some weight. Getting really nervous about surgery...keep having to keep myself from chickening out.

  4. My brother emailed me this article. Just thought it was interesting for those who may be contemplating getting the band instead of bypass or sleeve. http://www.businessweek.com/lifestyle/content/healthday/651049.html?chan=rss_topStories_ssi_5=.AOLWebSuite .AOLPicturesFullSizeLink { height: 1px; width: 1px; overflow: hidden; } .AOLWebSuite a {color:blue; text-decoration: underline; cursor: pointer} .AOLWebSuite a.hsSig {cursor: default}
  5. Great it will be nice to have someone to compare notes and for support! What time is yours? I think mine is at 8:00.

  6. Isolate Whey Protein isolate is a very pure form of whey protein, containing less than 1 percent lactose. Isolate contains anywhere from 90 to 98 percent protein in each scoop. Because isolate is highly filtered, it loses some of the immunity-boosting properties. The high filtering process also increases isolate's price tag. Concentrate Most whey supplements contain whey protein concentrate because it is easier and cheaper to produce. Concentrate retains more lactose per serving--about 4 percent at the very most--and more of the immunity enhancing effects of whey. The actual protein per serving can be considerably less than in isolate--ranging from 29 to 89 percent per serving. 5 year history

I have UHC and did not have the 40 bmi for 5 years. I also submitted to my coordinator seven years history because there was a year in there that I did not see a Dr. and another year I only saw the Dr. for pregnancy (fortunately it was with twins so I didn't have a problem eating my way to "morbidly obese" status). I lost a pretty good bit after delivery and was only at a BMI over 40 for the past two years. With all that they approved me, so hopefully they will do the same for you. Good luck.

    Cold Drinks/Food

This is so good to hear! There's nothing I like better than an icy cold drink. Hopefully I will be able to tolerate them afterwards.
  9. My doctor said to use Bariatric Fusion during my 2 week pre-op so I ordered the sample pack from their website. After hearing all the stories on here of how horrible the protein is, I must say I was surprised at how much I like them (although you might ask me again after that's all I've had to "eat" for weeks and I might feel the same as the rest of you.. ). I have tried all of them except the unflavored. The orange was my least favorite. It wasn't gross, but it just wasn't orange enough for me I guess. I had the cappuccino flavor this morning and I LOVED it. I will definitely be ordering more of it and next time I think I'll make a frozen cappuccino out of it. I just ordered some Unjury and Nectar today and from what I have read these seem to be the most favorite so we'll see!
  10. All the post-op diets are different but here is what my program manual says for me: Drink at least one protein meal replacement drink daily starting immediately. Start chewable vitamins at day 8.

    Wildly Varying Post Op Diets

I have thought the same thing. I know to some degree every doctor will do things a little differently, but the differences for this surgery seem to be from one end of the spectrum to another. I also realize each patient is different, but I agree with you that there should be a little more uniform policy in place. This is something that has concerned me while making my decision to have the surgery, and while it is not going to keep me from being sleeved I plan on talking to my doctor about it in a couple weeks to get his opinion. I think this can cause post surgery results to be a little misleading. As you can tell from reading posts on here, some people are slow losers and some lose really fast. Some of those results can be from the fact that some people are on 2 or 3 week liquid preop diets and then anywhere from 3-6 weeks post op liquid diets while others only have to fast 1 or 2 days before surgery and can start trying to eat soft foods within the first week. Which is why it is so important for people to not judge their results based on what they read about others.
  12. I haven't had my sleeve yet, but I have thought about this happening. I cook A LOT and I really don't notice until I pay attention how much I lick my fingers or taste of stuff. Also a lot of times when I'm not paying attention my twins will want to share their Snacks or something with me and I'll eat it without even thinking about it (which sometimes is not a good thing cause they will pick up anything and eat it). Sometimes once I realize I ate something they put in my mouth, I'll be like "okay that was food from today right?" I'm gonna have to really start paying attention after my surgery!
  13. Yes he is very easy on the eyes! My insurance got all my info on Feb. 26 and I got my letter of approval on March 7. So it really was only a couple days for them to make a decision then they mailed me an approval letter which probably took 3 or 4 days to get here instead of calling. I'm not gonna complain though cause they approved me!

  14. I think it's completely up to you. You're the only one who knows your struggles, and you're the only one that knows if you have the determination/will-power to make the necessary changes. If you feel that you can't do it any other way and are willing to do what it takes then by all means go for it!! Dr. Hoehn is my doctor as well. I will be sleeved on April 13. This website is so great and can pretty much answer any question you might have. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  15. I've already listed a few things in this post but when I was getting dressed today I thought of another one..to be able to wear my wedding ring again!! It hasn't fit since I was pregnant with the twins in 2007.
  16. I will have to say that Jan does seem a little absent minded to me at times too. She literally emailed/called and asked me the same question 5 times. I also found that I got a faster response if I emailed her. I will also agree that when I asked questions she answered very vaguely. That being said I have met with Dr. Hoehn twice so far and I have nothing but good things to say about him. He was more attentive to me than my PCP. He didn't rush me by any means and he answered all my questions. I have also talked to numerous people who have been sleeved by him and at Heartland and not one person has had a negative comment about him as a Dr. As far as the insurance goes and finding out EXACTLY what the requirements are and what they are going to pay, I never got a definite answer til my hubby got on the phone with UHC and it only took him about 10 minutes to get a definite answer.
  17. Wow! Hope you are able to work something out. After reading a lot of stories on here I realize how blessed I am to have such great insurance. i can't believe all the price quotes they gave you. What happened to all that "$11,999 sleeve special" they have posted on their website?

    Just Dance 2 - Wii

We love Just Dance at our house, even my 3 year olds. It is definitely a workout! I also have Wii Fit which I love cause it keeps up with all the calories you have burned each day as well as with each activity and your weight/bmi. Love Zumba as well. I have the Jillian Michaels too but I don't hardly ever do it cause I tend to do better with dance/aerobics. Not a big fan of traditional exercise (even though I know I need to do it too)!
  19. Yup Dr. Hoehn did my surgery did he do yours as well? He will be doing mine April 13. There are quite a bit of sleevers on here from KC. We have been talking about having some get togethers/support group.
  20. Did Dr. Hoehn do ur surgery?

    Isopure Smoothies

I bought some about a month ago at Vitamin Shoppe, and I thought it was very good. The only one I have tried so far is the orange peach. I haven't really tried a whole lot of Protein drinks yet, but considering most people say how gross they are I was surprised that this was so good. I will definitely be buying more.

    Is it just me??

I don't think so. I do the same thing. I'm a 16/18 now and have clothes in my closet down to 12. In the end I would love to be an 8/10 so for my birthday a couple weeks ago I bought myself two really cute dresses in my goal size and have them hanging in the front of my closet for motivation. (or are you saying u want to lose enough weight before surgery to fit in the jacket?)
