9 Weeks Post Op
To Be Thin 2011 replied to notsochubbybritneyspears's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats, and how wonderful is that to have your health in check! Great advise regarding the scale, it is too frustrating and discouraging to get hung up on numbers. -
Protein Bar Recommendations Please
To Be Thin 2011 replied to DisneyAddict's topic in Food and Nutrition
I had the opportunity to travel at 4 weeks post op... 10 hours in a car with my hubby and MIL... we stayed at same hotel and thank god different rooms, right next door to each other. I was very, very concerned about staying on track and getting my protien in, low carb... Along with packing Protein Bars and powder, I relyied on beef jerkey.. Loved it.. I found little 1.5 oz bags that had 22 grms of protien.. So convienent to keep in my purse and eat when I was ready for it, the others rarely knew I even ate! Suggestion... I requested a refrig in my room ahead of time, I googled grocery stores near the hotel, found a super wal-mart within 3 blocks of hotel -- I was able to buy fat free cottage cheese, string cheese and carb concsious yogarts to keep in my frig at hotel.. I even bought SF popcycles for the freezer and they were a great treat at night! It is doable and you can do it!!! -

I have used Atkins bars since my 3rd week ! Can get them at any Wal-Mart,,, K-Mart, Meijers, even Wal-Greens pharmacies. You do have to buy in box of 5.. read labels as there are so many to chose and each have different levels of protien, carbs and calories. They have a chocolate peanut butter bar that I LOVE -- 19 g protein, 2 gm net carbs they also have chocolate chip granola bar - 17 g protein, 3 net carbs 200 calories. Good Luck! -

AM I EATING TOO MUCH??
To Be Thin 2011 replied to LANENADELCACHEL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yes, I agree you should keep reaching out to your nut until they respond... I am have only "nibbled" on a fried food item twice now since surgery and it was well past 5 months out... I didnt do mash potato's either cause there is no nutritional value there at all.. I am no professional but it sure sounds to me like you need to increase your eating, be more structured on 3 small healthy meals... that is where your nut should come in and discuss your food options.. Good luck my friend... -

Hopefully your doc will have good advise or suggestion for something else you can try for your tummy... I could not due the puree stage and opted to stay with creamed soups & shakes longer rather than eating puree foods. -
Congratulations! Isnt it amazing in less than a year you have accomplished this! WOW!!! Way to go!!!

I have experienced what I feel is true stall... going 2 weeks with less than a 1 lb loss... VERY FRUSTRATING! My first time was around the 2 - 2 1/2 month mark. My scale weighs in ounces as well as pounds.... the first week I had lost like .6 of a pound, point 6.. not even a pound, the second week sme thing I had lost .4 --point 4.. UGH... The third week, I lost 4.7 pounds.. So for me, if you look at my monthly totals below, I "average" 2 - 3 pound loss each week,, but I would hit the occasional stall.. The month of July was bad... like 3 weeks of pretty much nothing for weight loss, then all of a sudden I had lost 5.2 pounds in a week! I could not belive the scale!!! Suggestion *** I only weigh myself once a week... and I try to only focus on my monthly loss as it gives me a bigger sense of accomplishment. I read on here of so many people that weight themselves each day or several times a day... I could not imagine the nubmers I would have seen if I did that... I just know what works for me, and focussing on the scale is not it.... the weight is coming off, not as fast as some, but for me - I love it because I know eventually I will hit my goal.. Good Luck, try not to be discouraged...keep focusing on your priorities of protien first, drink your fluids and excercise.

Told a patient I had a VSG today....
To Be Thin 2011 replied to BlackBerryJuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it was great you shared your thoughts on this... and... My doc did bring up WLS to me about 3 years ago.. at that time I was not ready to hear about it...I thought I could somehow manage to lose it on my own, which ended more failed attempts.. I did not take WLS seriously until I was truly ready to hear & learn the facts of WLS. -
Awesome!!! Congratulations Toyia

Extra help?
To Be Thin 2011 replied to DallasMomofTwins's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW..mom of twins,, ... if you have family willing to help and take care of the twins for a bit, to me I would take the help!!! You can take care of yourself, even reading the other post pretty much all agree you will be fine taking care of yourself ,, but... you are going to be tired and trying to recover from a major surgery... Kids are going to be kids, they are still going to scream, fight, want attention, want thier meals, spill the drink on the floor...whatever... To me, it would be comforting to know I can go lay down for 2 hours and my brother could watch the twins while I rest. Take the help ! -
Is it normal to be able to drink this much?
To Be Thin 2011 replied to Brockcrawford's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont know if I would say they are deep, in the pit of my stomach type thing but I can feel the air bubbles coming up and I do some very loud burps, which I never did before surgery!!! Now my hiccups almost hurt sometimes because they are so hard.... it teachs me real quick to slow down with my eating & drinking!! The way you decribe yours, I bet your tummy is full of air before you drink! LOL!!! -
One year check up with Surgeon
To Be Thin 2011 replied to TwoStepsBack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc had me on B12 right after surgery... It is a sublingual liquid B Complex... one dropper full under the tongue twice a week. I purchase it at Wal-Mart $6.00 for a 2 oz bottle that has enough doses in it to last for 6 months if you follow the 1 dropperful twice a week. I also take Centrum Chewables Multiviamin each day and it is loaded with the B vitimans I had my 6 month labs done last month and all my levels were awesome! -
