would love some tips on how to deal with a sweet tooth
To Be Thin 2011 replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My fix of choice when I need a sweet or treat is a sugar free chocolate fudgesicle ... love them and only 40 calories each. Below is info that others asked on the Wafer Bars: I have never tried them, 210 calories for package of two. I eat my sugar free fudgesicle! 2 sticks in package - 1 package = 210 Calories, 14 Protein, 2 sugars and they dont list exact Carb... they already have it deducted from the Fiber and list "Net Carb" of 8.... You really have to read the label instead of thier display cause they will have the nice cardboard display that shows "only 90 calories".. but they are referring to only one stick, and the sentence underneath that on the display says "14 g of quality protien" but they are referring to two sticks with that statement!!! LOL... just the way it is advertised, I think all of us quickly learn to read labels!!! -
Is there such a thing as "240's LAND" ?
To Be Thin 2011 replied to kemo46's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you for this post!!! Sometimes it is hard for me to not be frustrated when you look at how much farther I have to go... I mean some people are just getting sleeved at the weight I currently am or LESS.... It is tough when you start off at an extremely high weight..but like you, each 10 # drop is a milestone in my book! Good Luck to you!! -
As you lose weight what are you looking forward to??

Which protein drink is best for us to use?
To Be Thin 2011 replied to Knee2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I Love EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control... you can get it at any Wal-Mart..& Sams Club comes in a premix or powder. I prefer the premix and although I am not a dark chocolate fan,, the dark chocolate is much better than the milk chocolage. You must drink it cold,,, I pour it over lots of ice... Premix 11 oz is 110 calories, 17 grms protien and 6 carb -

I have heard lots about Biotin, but has anybody tried...
To Be Thin 2011 replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had read positive comments about Biotin, and have also read other posts that people have stated it does nothing and is a waste of money. So.. for me...(and remember we all are different).. I started taking Biotin daily, bought it at Wal-Mart, hard to swallow pill that I dont remember the dose... I really did not notice a thing, my hair was falling out by the handfuls. A fellow WLS buddy told me about her Vitamins and supplements she takes and she mentioned she does 5000 mcg of Biotin twice a day.... whatever dose I had from Wal-Mart was like 1/32 of the amount! I found: Natures Bounty Biotin 5000 mcg in a small little white gel cap easy to swallow pill! Found it on the internet, many Vitamin shops on the net... I ordered two bottles, started taking it, twice a day, once after lunch and once after dinner..... I NOTICED A DIFFERENCE!!! Yes! It took about 3-4 weeks for it to be in my system daily like that but wow, it is so nice now not actually losing handfuls and handfuls of hair... I felt like a dog shedding its winter coat! So in July I got a bit busy...vacation, etc... was not as faithful taking my vitimans off and on, missing 3-4 days in a row, then being good for a couple of days, etc.. hair back falling out in gobs! I am back being very faithful to my vitimins, calcuim & biotin supplements.. and I have since found a local store (Meijers) carries this same brand, occasionally they have it buy one get one free! Please know I do still lose hair, and it is a bit more than I would lose prior to surgery, but no way is it gobs of handfuls of hair like I was losing back in April and May... there is a side note on this. Biotin does help promote hair growth.. .. emphasis on "hair growth"... not just the hair you want to grow...all your hair grows!!! LOL!!! -
Recommendations for Vitamins???
To Be Thin 2011 replied to cass3057's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Hello, For some reason my doc has blood work done for me every 3 months... all my levels for Iron & vitimans come back awesome... I go in another 3 weeks for my 9 month blood work. Centrum multiviamin chewables, orange flavor.. one a day after I eat my last bite of lunch! Wal-Mart $9.96 a bottle of 100 Vitamins Viactive Calcium plus D - Caramel soft chews has 500 mg of Calcium, Vitamin D & K.. Wal-Mart $9.66 a box of 100 soft chews (and they are tasty too!!) liquid B Complex: Spring Valley sublingual B Complex - one dropperful every other day. Wal-Mart $6.00 a bottle, each bottle has 59 doses! Biotin (for hair & skin) Natuers Bounty 5000 mcg - 2 a day, one after lunch, one after dinner. Small, little soft gel pills. Originally bought on vitamin web site off net for about $7. a bottle, have since found exact same at Meijers for about 10. a bottle, but they come on sale buy one, get 2nd 1/2 off. Wal-Mart & other stores sell Biotin, but the pill size is large or the dose is too small... this one is great, small litle gel pill, so easy to swallow... <LI> -

What is/was everyone's losing plan
To Be Thin 2011 replied to mjb123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What is/was your losing plan: Never "set" on any one goal,, just want to be normal rather than morbidly obese How far out from surgery you are what percentage have you lost? 8 1/2 months out.. "almost" at the 100 lb loss mark How many times a day are you eating? 4-6 small meals What is the amount of normal food (non liquid) you are now able to get down? 1/2 cup, sometimes a bit more What kind of supplements are you taking? Types and Brands Centrum chewable multi vitiman, Biotin 5000 mg twice a day, Viactive calcuim chew daily and sublingal B-12 Complex every other day. How much Protein are you supposed to be getting and how much are you actually getting in daily and what are your sources of protein (brands of shakes etc), : 60 grms, I typically always exceed it by eating lots of cheese, beef jerkey and meat, fish or chicken for dinner each night. How much Water you are actually getting down each day - 60+ daily What is your exercise routine, type of exercise, and how often. -- poor exerciser... I need to work on this. How is your energy level? Very good -

To Be Thin 2011 replied to Papa Jack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a personal choice, and some people are just not open to hear or learn more about weight loss surgery -
Would you sleeve again?

I would do it again in a heartbeat! My only regret is that I waited so long, I should have done this 10 years ago..... -
Question for Post Op Sleevers!
To Be Thin 2011 replied to lisajxoxo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Preparing for the surgery... I would not have changed a thing, I looked into this surgery extensively, and I read everything i could get my hands on and had several one on one converstations with people that gave me great advise.. Just like you are doing now! The only thing post op I would have changes is I truly tried to shove too much food in me... I was hell bent on making sure I would hit my protien level every day and pretty much made myself sick trying to force myself to eat unti my doc finally told me at 4 week outs to "calm down" and only eat when I was hungry rather than trying to force food into me just to hit the Protein level. My doc said in time, once I am healed it will be fine and I will hit the protien goal each day.. and he was right... Trust your doc -
The best vitamins????

Any Success Stories After a Real Slow Start?
To Be Thin 2011 replied to TigerLily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The dreaded scales.... one of the worse things we can do to ourselves is be on those scales too often. It is so hard to stay away, but please try!!! I started off only weighing myself once a week and I am soooo thankful! -
Congrats! You are very beautiful! Good luck on reaching your goal

What made you do it?
To Be Thin 2011 replied to CT Fats's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My driving force was my kids... My desire to be active and participate in my kids lives. I did not want my kids to have to take care of me, like I have to my mom. My mom is in a wheelchair due to her wieght., she has had both knees and hips replaced, would not stay with the therapy because "it was hard", so it was much easier to live her life in a wheel chair rather than try to get up and walk. I realize how many things my mom miss' out on because of her wheelchair, we cant get it into most houses because of steps, she wieghs over 300 pounds, so to lift her up steps it takes 3 men lifting the wheel chair, it is just a pain... I saw my mom as an active, social woman, let her life go and eat, eat, eat until she litterally could not hold up her wieght anymore and is now handicap. I swore I would not let that happen to me, and with my weight over 300 I was already heading the same route as my mom. I would not do that to my kids.. My only regret was waiting so long to have this surgery... -
all i want to do is sleep...
To Be Thin 2011 replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awwww... sending you (((HUGS))) I sincerely hope it changes for you..... Your doc may not have mentioned this but your hormones are crazy for a little bit after this surgery. It hapens to many of us... It happened to me and I did not even realize it, my husband made a comment to me one day that he wished I would just be "normal" and not snap at him or be so quick to get mad at the slightest thing, I did not even realize this was happening... In my mind I was wrapped up on what I was going through with the surgery and with healing, and with getting my protien in,,, I was all soaked up in me...that I didnt think about what I was doing to others in my house.. and I seemed so extremly tired all the time, like all I wanted to do is sleep, stay in my bed all day. .At my 4 week check up I brought it up to my doc that I was so moody, big mood swings and he told me the surgery brings out all kinds of things and my hormones go into high gear... he said just give it a couple more weeks and things will calm down... and he was right... by the time I hit the 7 -8 week mark my mood swings were gone, I was back being me. I sincerely hope things level out for you, good luck my friend. -
Mental Health Evaluation
To Be Thin 2011 replied to diane_revision's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan... it was not covered, I had to pay $200.00 for a one hour visit and that was it. The doc talked with me, asked me to set some goals, etc.. within a week she sent her notes to my WL doc and I was all set. I did feel it was unnecessary, but can understand doctors are sued over everthing now a days so most likely this was to protect them some how... I would do it again in a heart beat. -
What to tell people why I am out?
To Be Thin 2011 replied to shellnsons's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hold firm to what your gut instinct is.... I did not want anyone at my work to know my business. I work in a corporation with 460 employees, 82% women so I am in drama heaven... it is ridiculous the tacky things women can do and say to each other, I did not want to be a part of it. I completed my paperwork for medical leave with the HR dept, and gave a copy to my boss and I explained to him that this is confidential and it is my request it remains confidential. To my co-workers that asked why I was going out I told them I was having surgery to take care of some personal issues, and said no more...trust me quite a few women tried to get it out of me what kind of surgery I was having..... but I would not bend and tell them. These are my co-workers, they do not need to know my most personal business. When I returned to work I was met with a cold shoulder, some even had attitudes about the work they had to do while I was gone for 'whatever" --- I smiled to myself knowing that this was the exact reason I did not tell them, because they really didnt care about me... they cared about not knowing the latest gossip and how my leave of absence impacted them. Hold firm to your instincts.... do not tell if your co-workers -
Awesome! So very happy for you, congratulations

What do I tell people?
To Be Thin 2011 replied to DreamLife36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can so relate!! I would look the person in the eye and say it was a personal woman thing, and all is well thank you. I have said this probably close to 50 times now and not once has anyone questioned me further. My weight is personal and keeping it private tends to be a woman thing and I am a woman..so what I reply is the honest truth!! The next thing is you need to be prepared when people notice you not eating or eating as much, if its a pot luck, a shower, eating at a resturant what ever, its seems they always ask... and I just say I am having a little stomach issue right now and dont want to press my luck by eating more. So remember....."its a personal woman thing and all is well thank you"
