:clap2: North Hampton, Ma!!! Big les town, if I were to move I would like to go there. My honey wants to go warmer, but I want to go where I'm welcome. "........*#!% Romney!!! other than Mit, Mass is really fairly gay friendly, especially the Vineyard, where I live. Maybe now that we just got the vote to "not vote" (on the news tonight!!!!) other states will follow! For now, Mass is safe till at least 2012 when the next opportunity will come up for the opposition. Eddie, glad to hear things are better. thought about moving up here? you could do a summer/winter thing , and do your thing! -

Hi Eddie, first, thanks for the info on the hungries and fills, really helped! I can't pretend to give advise on the peace and war going on with your hubby, I just had my own blow out with my wife! that's why I didn't come back sooner. Been real tense around here, but I know from yrs of this that it will get back to normal and things will be all happy again. It's a process! But you need to let it go the doormat thing go. I'm the "sean " of our marrage, I get the calls about work and must take them, It's really hard to balance life sometimes , for me it's an over kill of responsibility and probably poor boundry issues, but it pays the bills!!! we get over it ! We've been together since 94, had a few rough spots, but last October, went to P Town and got hitched for real for life!! It's a good thing! Let me know how the fill went. hope I can keep up with you all, this is a fast moving thread! -
:guess May it would be a better response if you went to the RI chat thread??? this is a Mass. thread.?! Good Luck !

Hi every one, just found this thread!!! who knew?! been on the "state" threads and never ventured. I got banded 4/26 and haven't had a fill yet. My wife can't wait till I go on 7/2 for my first. she is anxious for me to get going with the loss again. been on hold for 2 wks now. I find myself "expermenting " sometimes and get hungry couple times a day. BUT , I'm anxous about the fill , do you really have to go on liquids again?? I have never experienced any problems with eating anything. this is great!! -
Hi gingersnap, thanks, this isn't really the best place for details, and everyone's details are different, so your experience will most likely be different than mine. They were good about the pain meds, I didn't have to ask, but, I never require much anyway..I'm just used to aches and pains anyway and gave up trying to fight them years ago. I just found the port site to be very sore, but it is okay now, can't even feel where the band is not even on day 1. I think the most important worry would be the insurance. you really need to call them and check and see if there is any waiting period being it's a new policy and you are a new employee. the surgery is easy! you are responsible to find out if it is even possible, the drs. will take it from there to get it covered. they didn't really explain that well enough at first, but it is written somewhere in the first night info session. I didn't notice it and got quite far before I realized that.fortunately, I was covered. apparently your employer can opt out on wt. loss things to save them money on the company policy and thus it can be different than the general policy. YOU REALLY Need to CALL!! good luck,

HI Berry, on the pasta question, not there myself yet, but got a hint from someone in a support group meeting, anglehair was best, but also it has to do with how long you cook it. same deal with rice. They say it continues to expand in the stomach, so....it you cook it longer till really soft it will expand less and cause less problems. some could eat it , etc, etc...... let me know, can't wait to try it!!! (banded 4/26/07)

Hi Christie, Welcome! If you go to the mass bandster chat thread pg. 23 for 5/7 "how soon" I answered that question. good luck!!!
-
Hi Gingersnap! thanks, I think I am doing well, getting a little anxous with the post diet wanting it to be over and on to the real deal! I love the Drs. and the whole department at Lahey. I think it is an excellent program. It's good that they don't just "slap" it in and leave you on your own. They really do try to give you all the tools and info to make it! so far I'm down 22 lbs!! Good luck to you. and Bostonchic too!!

:decision: Of course you know that this site is all "lapband" land, so naturally we are all going to be a little prejudice . But, I have to say from all my research and personal experience with friends, family and co-workers that had the bypass, this is MUCH safer. My sister-in-law, cousin, 2 co-workers , a client (I work for vns) and several friends have had the bypass. only 1 has had no problems, and she is very new only 6 wk out. many of them discribe the problems as life threatening. My cousin nearly died and was hospitalized for 2 weeks. AND, her wt. loss has really slowed down and been on hold at 260 (she was aprox 340) as she discovered she could eat certain high cal. foods. So, that is not fool proof. yet, she is happy as she is much smaller. I think you have to be willing to "work" which ever you pick, neither is a magic bullet , the thing that makes the other seem easier to lose is that you are more likely to heave if you are "bad", so if that is what it takes to keep you from eating junk than that may be the answer. the diet dr. is the one that will help you to determine that. Also, if you decide this was a huge mistake, this is reversable! so far, BEST thing I've done ever, I know it will slow down, but so far, a lb a day is coming off since band day:thankyou:..there are other reasons too, maybe you need to do a little more digging. I will warn you though, the drs. lean to the bypass as the "gold standard" , I think because it has been around longer. that's the down side, don't think they give the divice a life long warranty as it hasn't been around long enough to know. but hay, got to start somewhere.I don't want to wait my life time to find out. May have to get a new model down the road !! no, really, it seem very durable to me.:nervous

Hi Shopper, unless they do things very differently, it is a bit of a long process. At lahey, you do 1 informational, then get a psych, diet, and physical evaluation. If that goes well then the surgeon sees you. If you are accepted you have to go to a once a week class X4 for behavioral, a support group at night and just before a class with the nutritionist and nurse pract.. Oh, and I should mention that they want you to lose a little wt. first. they determine how much. for me it was only 14 lbs but for others it was anywhere up to 50. depends on how "tight" you stomach is.They want to be sure you survive the table! that could be the longest hold up. I started mine mid december and just got banded 4/46, been worth the wait!!! I had a few delays with weather and travel to do the manditory things and coming from the Vineyard. good luck with the June thing, let us know how it goes. -
If you are this close, than you will know when you get there. The people at Lahey will also let you know if it is right for you. they are very careful and if it isn't they will not let you proceed with it. For me it was years of research, and another 28 years more than you to realize that the struggle was a never ending cycle. At your age I was a member at the gym, had all the pricey home equipment and really did make the effort. it was also the heavest time of my life. I finally just got REALLY tired of the battle. Your trainer will never understand, unless he has had a BMI of 49 too! and that was just before surgery, 60lbs less than when I was 37!! Just don't let them talk you into bypass, that is very scary stuff. I work for VNS and also know a lot of people, friends and family and ALL have had many problem, many of them life threatening. But the band....This a good thing!
-
that is fanatastic, I have to ask if that is just since the band or the total inc. the pre wt. they want you to lose? I just got banded on 4/26 , first weigh in monday, I don't see me doing that well. But it is definately coming off. I'm confused as to when to start the count! the home scale says 7 since the band, but it's 21 from the start. if you count from my absolute highest wt. ever, which was many years ago then its 64! see what I mean? just not wanting to get my hope up toooooo high!

:clap2: just thought I'd get in here and make the anouncement, make it real! got my band on the 26th:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: all went well, got my membership validated ! 1st day was a bitch, esp. the port site VERrrrrrrrrrY sore:( , but I don't even feel the band. have had very little, as you know but so far not hungry for even a moment. -
wjt, must have been something you answered in the preop forms. I know they asked me about chest pain, past and present. I had some in the past but told them that long ago in my first visit with the NP. They asked me at that point to have the stress test. it was a good thing as if I had any doubts as to my condition they were happily relieved. They just want to make sure you don't croke on the table! I just hope they can get you in asap so you don't miss your date. I have to go up on wed. for my last preop apt with the DR. , before surgery the next day(at Lahey). pushin it just a little, best not find anything wrong now!!! good luck, where are you from?

I'm from the Vineyard, I go next thursday for my band! glad you wrote in, keep us posted:clap2: . not looking forward to the jello, :phanvan but I already have sampled the protein drink and it wasn't bad. good luck!

Hi Nana, I thought I remembered someone from the cape. nice to hear from you. I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm scheduled soon but I'm sweatin the fact that I still have a few lbs to go and they don't want to budge! I still feel confident that I can do it but if I had any doubts before I sure don't now!!! I may have to start the liquid diet to do it.but I've never done it. I've been told that Dr. Bram won't budge on what he wants and WILL pospone the date if I don't make it. that would really screw things up for me with the timing. yet, the head hunger, stomach hunger and every other dammm hunger coming my way is just so......strong! I feel like I've never dieted before! Do you know if they will let you leave the hospital without an escourt? I need my sweetie here to take care of everything, got lots of pets. I feel sure Ill be able to drive, I have a history of good, fast recoveries. I will ask on Tues. -

Chrispy and Sherry, I really appreciate your input, and I know in my heart this is the only way to go! I sure haven't had any luck with anything else. Looking at your charts , starting wt. etc. that is exactly what I am hoping to do myself. So, guess we got that solved! I'm actually not exactly sure what it is that it will take, they do hint about it but I think they don't want to scare you off so untill you got a lot invested its a little vague. but that is what my next apointments will be about , I go back 4/10 & 11 for more classes with the nutritionist ( and a bunch of other tests) before my preop apt.on the 25th. This sure is a long process!!! I'd almost rather go to the dentist! -

you guys are making me very nervous about my decision to get banded! I got a April 26 date with the band but it's not sounding like anything will change. I mean, I'm hungry all the time now, my willpower sucks , and it's a struggle all the time. I'f I were good at all that and exercised too, then why get this??? If life is going to be hell with it anyway, then why go through all this? got hell now! I believed that "tame the hunger" add on TV, is it a lie???:phanvan needing a little reassurance here! Anyone?! -
Sandra, I do know them both!!!, I'm sending you my email, let me know if you don't get it.
-
Sandra, do you get down here to see him? maybe we could get together ? I know Hillside fairly well, I work for VNS, I may know him! small world. and yes it is a hike! nearly didn't go for it just because of that, but all the other options were just as far. Rosa, go to the top of this page to the far left there is a small heading "user cp" (user control panel) click on that and you will find the link for setting passwords etc. thanks for the good thoughts! I need them....
