Well, I am on day 6 of my liquid diet. I have lost 16 lbs. I can't tell but my clothes are fitting differently. I am extremely happy about that. I can honestly say I did not cheat. It was really hard on Monday and Tuesday but now I am used to it. I drink alot of Water and unsweetened tea. Creamed strained Soups, Protein shakes, broth and sugar free popsicles aren't too bad in satisfying hunger and the need to snack. Staying really busy helps too!!! I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 am on Monday. Really excited and getting a lil nervous. Hope everyone has a blessed day!!!!! :biggrin0:

Pre Op Liquid Diet
lil red raider replied to lil red raider's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had to be on mine for a week. All I could have were Protein shakes with 14 grams of sugar or less, low Fat cream soups strained, broth, Water with sugar free drop ins, unsweet tea and coffee, and sugar free popsicles. I could have all of those that I wanted so I was never hungry. I ate or drank until I was satisfied. I did 3 shakes a day and a can of Soup at lunch and broth at night if I had the urge to eat. If I felt I needed a snack at night I ate a popsicle. I kept my self really busy so I wouldn't think about food. It is not easy because you want everything you didn't eat the week before. I craved a pbj for the first 2 days. Anyone who is on a liquid or getting ready to start hang in there. It really is not as bad as it seems. Many Blessings to All!!!! -

Fortunately, my roommates are out of town this week and no cooking in the house. If I keep busy at work I will be ok. I ate at all my favorites to get it out of my system. This will all be so worth it in the end!!!! :001_unsure: -

Newbie here
lil red raider replied to stromgardgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had a great experience with Dr. Barker. I am scheduled for surgery on the 16th of August. Be prepared for a long stay in his office. His staff is very nice except for one older man. I did not like dealing with him at all. Dr. Thompson, Dawn (nutritionist), the Physical therapist, and the lady at the front desk are all really great. My one-on-one with Dr. Barker was easy. He answered all my questions and did not rush me. If you have any questions, you can pm me. Good Luck with everything. -

I gave copies to the two people I choose to make the desicion and a copy will go to the hospital with me. I am 32 and never thought about it until I was asked at my EGD appointment. I found the template online and had two witnesses. It gave me an eerie feeling but I knew it was what I had to do. -
My story and lots of questions
lil red raider replied to PlannerGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have Aetna. I was approved with no problems. Your BMI has to be a certain amount (which I met alone). I think it has to be 40 and above or 35 and above with 2 co morbidities (i.e. high bp, sleep apnea). I have both. You must do three months of supervised diet visits, one nutrional eval, and one psych eval. You also have to submit a 2 year weight history. My surgeon had everything in his office, Dr, dietician, and physical therapist. All I was out of pocket was my co pays. I hope this helps... GOOD LUCK on your journey!!!! -
I AM SO EXCITED!!!! I have (looking at my calendar) 40 days until my surgery. As everyday passes, I get even more excited. My momma asked how I could be so excited about having my stomach cut off. (She is very supported in my decision, she doesn't like surgery). I tell her because I have a fresh start on the horizon. I will be on my journey to no longer being the "woman with the pretty face" or the "fat friend". I will one day be the same size. I will be so happy when I will be able to slide into a booth without having to move the table or being uncomfortable. I have been so fortunate with all the love and support I receive from everyone. Believe me, I tell everyone. Nobody has said anything negative. I made a joke about "taking the easy way out" and two people yelled at me and said what I was doing was not "easy". That made me smile. Hope everyone has a fantastic day and THANK YOU for letting me share my excitement!!!!!:biggrin0:

I live in Forney but work in Plano. I am open to meeting up. I have not had surgery yet (8/16/2010 with Dr. Wade "Hottie" Barker). I can use all the support I can get. -
Beginning to consider thinking about....
lil red raider replied to Waddlingduck's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have struggled with my weight Always. The decision for me was easy. I am 32 and TIRED of being fat. I am scheduled for surgery on August 16. I chose my surgeon based on the medical school he went to (We have the same alma Matar). He has several billboards around Dallas and he takes my insurance. Luckily, he turned out to be really good and nice looking to boot. Do your research!!!! My physician suggested to me to do something about my weight. I told her I wanted to try it with a dietician first. Well 6 months later here I am scheduled to have surgery. I got a letter of referral from my primary, 3 months of supervised diet, a psych eval, and a 2 year weight history. I met Aetna's BMI requirement alone. I also have 2 co morbidities which helped me even more to get approved. This is a tough decision and I wish you the best of luck on your journey. -
Anything I can do????
lil red raider replied to Deb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair dresser told me to use women's rogaine before my surgery and make sure to get a lot of protein in. I am terrified of losing my hair. That is the one thing I have ALWAYS been complemented on. -

Looking for Texas Sleevers???
lil red raider replied to ahchancey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am in Dallas. My surgery is scheduled for August 16 with Dr. Barker. I hope the next 9 weeks fly by. I am so ready to be a "Barker's Babe"... -
I have been lerking in the shadows for a few weeks now. Reading all the posts have really helped in my decision to have this life changing procedure. I am 32 years old from Dallas, Texas. I have been that big girl "with such a beautiful face" all my life. I am scheduled to have the sleeve done on August 16. Dr. Barker is doing my surgery. Needless to say, like most of the stories I have read, I have tried EVERYTHING. The most I have lost is 30 lbs. I keep it off for about 6 weeks and then gradually gain it all back plus some. I am so EXCITED to have this done and READY to lose the weight, stop the CPAP machine and bp meds. Thank you to everyone for all the support you show for everyone. Can't wait to be on the LOSERS bench!!!! :001_rolleyes:

I have Aetna Select. I had to do 3 months of physician supervised diet, 1 nutritional eval, one psych eval, and exercise evals. I had my last weigh in on June 9 and had my approval by noon on the 11th. I met the criteria alone with my BMI. Aetna requires a BMI of 40 or above or 35 with two co morbidities (high bp, obstructed Sleep apnea, etc). My dr.s office was all in one so I had one co pay to see the dr., nutrtionist, and physical therapist.
