I'm just about 5 years out. If I skip my Nexium for 1 day I get SEVERE heart burn that has me doubled over. I need to take like 5 Zantacs to feel better or drink lots of Pepto. Has anyone been able to get off the PPIs???? I hate taking them!! thanks, Patti

Still taking acid reducers?
pattimomof3nj replied to pattimomof3nj's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know that is a lot of Zantac.... that is why i'm so worried at this point... it doesn't seem to be helping anymore. I had my surgery done in Mexico by Dr. Aceves, I think it is time to contact his office, or find a local surgeon here in GA. I recently re-located here so I think I would need to do that anyway, my PCP seems to be clueless about WLS. I'm just hoping that it is something simple, that is fixable without surgery. Thanks for all your help!! -
Still taking acid reducers?
pattimomof3nj replied to pattimomof3nj's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So VSGAnn2014.... I know that I have started back on the Coke again recently... but even before then when I stopped the PPI, it was horrible. I'm going to stop the Coke, but honestly, I only drink like 1 a week with my Jack in it.... my only vice. Some people like wine, beer, etc, I like Jack! As far as food goes, I pretty much eat bland boring non-GERD foods, except for my coffee. I guess I'm just going to be one of those life time PPI takers!! -
Over the counter medications help!

HHMM. I still take Advil... Tylenol does not work for me. But I must say that I only take Advil once in a while. most of the pain meds I take for my migraines are prescription. -
I was banded in 2008. I lost my band due to slippage from excessive stress. I had to wait 3 months for the healing before I could get my sleeve and gained back 35 of the 50 pounds that I lost. I was sleeved in October of 2010. I reached my personal goal of 130 in 2011, I think it was around Thanksgiving, not too sure, but around 13 months. I have maintained that since, bouncing around with 5 pounds here and there, but never more or less I do not weigh myself anymore, just go by how my jeans fit, I'm currently in a GAP size 2, so I'm very pleased. You are doing wonderful. There will be many stalls in the beginning, it is just your body adjusting to the changes, just keep doing what you are doing, Protein protein and some veggies. I have to admit, I never ever exercise, still to this day, I will go for the occasional walk with the kids, but that about does it. I try to get 5000 steps in because i have a sitting job, but it is so hard. Keep up the good work!! Patti

How do you feel about eating out after weight loss surgery?
pattimomof3nj replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 3 years post op my 2nd surgery, I have a sleeve now and we go out to eat at least twice a week. I just order something that I know I can heat up for lunch the next day that will taste good, or I will share an entree with my 12 year old son. If we go to a steak place we get a bigger steak and he gets the sides he likes I get a few bites of those and a chunk of the steak. We make it work. My husband says I'm a cheap date, one drink that he gets to finish and half a meal, cannot get better than that! I just eat very slow and enjoy the conversation! I'm currently enjoying bouncing around 130#s and have been since 13 months post op of my sleeve. -

My Apprehensions....
pattimomof3nj replied to favoredone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
To be honest, I got my sleeve in October, and hosted Thanksgiving the following month! I really didn't have any issue because I was too busy making sure everyone else was eating and drinking to worry about myself. I just kept my Protein shake full, and nibbled on some turkey, which might I say for my very first, was FABULOUS!!!! The only thing that I had trouble with was energy. Towards the end of the day I was BEAT! but my mom and hubby helped with the clean up. I think as long as your friends are understanding and you can substitute sleeve friendly foods where needed you shouldn't have any problems. Have Soups when going out to eat, just sip on the broth, leave the noodles and veggies until you get to that stage. Drink a Protein Shake before or after you go. Don't worry you will be fine, the hard part is only the first few weeks. Then it is smooth sailing. Patti -

Water Requirement Post-op
pattimomof3nj replied to Mike59's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey there, i'm just over a year out and I still struggle to get my Water in! I get really bad heartburn from plain ol' water. So I add stuff to it, like Crystal Lite, or Iced Tea mix, anything to make it go down easier. The only thing I can absolutely tell you is to do your best. We are human, and the Drs give us guidelines, they want us to try to get a minimum of 64 oz, that includes ALL liquids, not just the cups of water you consume. You count the Jello you eat, the ice pops you suck on, the Soup broth you eat, they all count towards your total ounces at the end of the day! See that was easy! I keep a 20 oz cup of what ever (lately it is the Arnold Palmer 1/2 lemon aide 1/2 iced tea) with me at all times. 3 of those, plus my coffee and hot tea in the morning and I'm good for the day. But I also usually have soup for lunch, and a jello for a snack in the evening, or a sugar free ice pop. so I am over my 64. It really isn't that hard! -

UNsuccessful Story :( . . . trying to get back on track
pattimomof3nj replied to misspatrice's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Irene said it better than anyone could have. I lost my ex SIL a year ago, and let me tell you, that my brother was a freaking mess. they had been divorced for nearly 12 years, and he was still a mess. But I had to pull him aside one day a few months after and 'slap' some sense into him. (not really) You are all she has now. My niece was 14, your daughter is 6, big difference, but not really. A parent is a parent, and you need to show your daughter that you can be a healthy happy mommy that she needs. she knows, trust me she does, why her daddy is not here anymore. He was NOT healthy, she saw the way he lived his life. You do not want her to go to sleep at night worrying about you. My ex SIL took her life because she was not mentally healthy, but my niece knew that long before any of us knew it. Please for your daughter, get back up on that horse and ride the rest of your journey to the healthy person that you know you can be. If you are having issues with food, go back to basics. Start up with your shakes again, do you Protein, get your Water in. Start going for walks with your daughter and your fiancee. Make it a family thing, start a new tradition after dinner. Family walk time, just 20 - 30 minutes is all you need. You'll see it will make you all feel so much better and closer. We are here for you whenever you need to vent, cry or b*tch about anything!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!! -
How much will I miss binging?
pattimomof3nj replied to azsenior's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
To be very very honest with you. I am almost a year out with my sleeve. I had a lap band for about 2 years before that, so that cured me of my binging. But, I did go 3 months without the band, and my horrid eating habits came back 3fold. I gained 40 pounds in that 3 months. The best thing is the first month or two after you are sleeved, you really have no desire to eat. I remember the first solid bite I took, I chewed it up to mush, and I felt it go through my whole system. It was amazing, and I was done. I didn't want to eat anything else. It took me about 2 months to get to eating real food, I was a shake queen, and yogurt was my best friend. But binge, I could not do it. Now, 1 year later, I could do it, and I feel like crap after, if you call eating 15 Oreos a binge, but that is in the course of an hour with a glass of milk! And it was 1 time and never again. I felt so sick after that when I look at an Oreo now, I want to hurl. The sleeve just kind of cures you of all that! it is amazing! -
Constipated much?
pattimomof3nj replied to PenguinLover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take regular stool softener capsules. They are small and gel like and go down easy. Just be sure to take them at night so that you GO in the morning. And make sure you drink lots of Fluid so they work correctly. My mom took them once in the morning, and let's just say we didn't have the best shopping trip that day, things got quite messy! You can get colace at any drug store or supermarket! I started taking 2 a day, then backed down to 1 a day once I was going regularly! -
I'm gonna turn into WHAT???
pattimomof3nj replied to favoredone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh hell, they are just jealous. Seriously, I have lost 100 pounds and I can honestly say that my group of friends has not changed one bit. Sure every time I see them, they are all, OMG you need to stop, you are disappearing, you are too skinny. But they love me for me, fat or skinny and if they are true friends it would not matter. My friends and family knew from the beginning what and why I got my WLS. it was to be healthy, the hot skinny b**ch that I became was just an AWESOME side effect. My husband is totally happy with me, my kids are totally happy, my son loves that I am a skinny mom and I can go on all the rides with him, I even go down the slides at the park. I act like a teenager now, I have so much freaking energy I do not know what to do with it. I dance around the house like a kid, on Sundays after church, we blast the radio and clean, and play in the yard. It is for you and yours, not them and theirs, so do it and be happy!!! if you lose a few in the mean time, they weren't yours to begin with!! Good luck, Patti Edit to add that I'm not really a b**ch, I'm just out of my shy shell, and I speak my mind now, but I am HOT!! -
Bundling Surgeries...and I'm Scared to Death!!
pattimomof3nj replied to smallgirlsxthree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not think you will have a problem. I had carpal tunnel release on my left wrist when my twins were 7 months old, and I was changing diapers within a week. It really isn't that bad. Are they doing it open or micro? that will be the biggest thing, are you going to have a huge opening or a tiny one, I only had a little hole with 3 stitches, and I barely have a mark now. If I would only go and get the right wrist done all of my problems would be fixed. I thought with losing the weight the pain would go away, but it hasn't. I commend you for doing it all at the same time!!! -
Getting back on track
pattimomof3nj replied to LSUVetGirl10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a microwave, I love to eat chili, lots of Beans, high Protein. I like to snack on the little bags of apple slices (get them at BJs) with Peanut Butter, or Greek yogurt with granola. Also, make sure you are drinking enough, I know it is hard when you are in class, but you have to get your oz. in! I also eat SF mints to curb the need to have something in my mouth, or I suck on a mini tootsie pop! HTH, Patti -
As Anyone Done Medifast Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
pattimomof3nj replied to renogirl's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I was just talking to a girl at work the other day that 'sells' that stuff. I was looking at her catalog. I do not want to eat that stuff, but the drinks are what was of interest to me, i cannot stand the typical protein drinks anymore, and I am on a slippery slope into carb land with the cookies and candy. I am just about a year out, OMG!!! and I am maintaining my BMI Goal of Normal give or take the 1 pound up and down during that time of month. I would like to get down to 135, but hey I have time for that! My main problem is that I constantly drink all day and do not eat nearly anything. I do not get enough protein in because I am so full of hot tea, iced coffee, iced tea, water, crystal lite, you name it i'm drinking it. At least I'm well hydrated! But I throw in a few cookies and I'm good to go! Are the protein drinks (not shakes) good? -
HOW can u possibly get 60+grams of Protein without supplements??
pattimomof3nj replied to Sunny702's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hey, there is no 'rule' that you have to eat breakfast food at breakfast time! you can eat whatever you want. I have a child that hates eggs, and likes meatballs for breakfast. Guess what we always have in the fridge ready to nuke for her! She is 4, I hope one day she will decide to like Cereal like the other 2, makes mornings a bit easier, but hey, pick your battles right! You can eat what ever you want for breakfast. Make up little bowls of meat and cheese with sauce to heat and go, or chicken wraps (chicken in cheese). how about meat roll ups! there are so many things you can make that are easy to do as an on the go meal, if that is what you need. Yogurt is good to, just watch the carbs. -
Anyone else had migraines improve?
pattimomof3nj replied to Rainydayz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just about 9 months out and i have to say that my migraines used to run my life. Since surgery, I can tell you that I do not even carry my meds with my any more. I still take Topomax, but I did go 2 months without it because I didn't have the cash to get a refill, and nothing! it is great!!! -
One I didn't even realize I was doing.....
pattimomof3nj replied to Julie76's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That is funny because the other day my mom and I were going to the mall after we dropped the kids off at school. I have been putting my foot up on the side of the door for months now, but i guess she just never realized it. she said, my gosh your legs are so skinny. I was like what are you talking about. she looked over and said how can you keep it up like that, my knee was up near my boob, i just started laughing! it was so comfortable. I also sit like a pretzel at work now and everyone that walks past my office laughs at me! YAY for flexibility!
