    Snacks

Fruits (watermelon in particular - comparitively lower carb and calories) and nuts (but I don't eat more than an ounce a day, one ounce of pistachios is around 160 calories). Beef Jerky if I'm running low on calories for the day. From my experience, the "starvation/add more calories to loose" more theory has worked. I was eating around 600 calories till about a couple of months ago and had a significant stall. I upped the calories to around 800 and the weight started coming off again. I've been thinking about moving it up to around a 1000 now as my weight loss has slowed down again. I guess different things work for different people. You just have to try it out.

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOAL

    Awesome! Congratulations!!
  3. Thanks everyone. I appreciate the encouraging words. Getting to 200 pounds lost by Sept. 20 (my daughter's birthday) is my next goal.
  4. I had a chuckle after reading your message because I have been thinking about this. Even though I've lost 150lb I'm still at 350 and have a long way to go. I think given how much healthier I already feel from where I was, in some ways I already think of myself as maintaining. Not maintaining in the strictest sense of the word but simply I'm not very focussed on losing weight every day. I think you could do the same, keep doing the right things, in terms of eating, tracking and all that but don't focus too much (mentally) on the losing part. Some more weight will probably come off over time anyway. Just my thought. Would love to keep track on how you move forward.
  5. I lost around 40 pounds, but I had a lot to loose.

    Vitamin D (DRISDOL)

hmmm.....maybe I can ask my Insurance to cover my next trip to the Caribbean. I need all the sunlight to increase my Vitamin D levels!
  8. So I had my 4 month check up. I'm down around 120lbs and pretty much everything was good except my Vitamin D levels, which were 6.1 ng/ml (as opposed to a normal range of 30-100 ng/ml). The doctor prescribed DRSIDOL 50,000 units, which, um, seems pretty strong. Anyone familiar with this medicine and any side effects? Thanks.
  9. I'm doing well as far as the neck and face go. People usually comment that I look a few years younger. My hair is starting to gray (probably not connected to VSG anyway) but that doesnt bother me too much. If George Clooney can rock the gray temples, so can I!
  10. Very cool, congratulations! On to 350!!
  11. You will get varying answers but it has for me. I do feel "full" after eating 3-4 oz of food, particularly Protein. A lot of times I could go longer without eating but I eat so that I get enough calories for the day. (However I was not a revision).
  12. I just tell people (if they ask) I'm doing a low carb low calorie diet, which is what I'm actually doing!

    problems

I had a similar experience. I got a high fever a few days after the operation (103-104). The doctor gave me strong antibiotics but I couldn't hold them down and would immediately throw up. I had go back to the hospital for a couple of days so they could straight line heavy duty antibiotics. That killed the infection/abscess. I was irritated to be back in the hospital but it was the right thing to do. I've been fine after that and haven't had any issues (close to 6 months post op now)l. Hopefully this will pass soon for you and the Mrs. Wish you the best of luck.

    Vitamin D (DRISDOL)

Thanks everyone. I've been taking it once a week for the last few weeks and havent had any side effects (other than my general discomfort with taking any medicine!). Will find out in a few weeks if it helped my Vitamin D levels came back up.

    extra saliva?

Yes, for 4-6 weeks after the operation. Went away by itself after that.
  16. You are at a relatively low weight already so weight loss is going to be slower for you. Varying your calorie and carb intake may help. I'm almost 6 months post op and I get around 800 calories now (its usually a struggle to get that much in). Try reducing your calories and carbs for a few days and see if it helps. The other thing I've noticed for myself is that if I am stressed (whether for work or whatever), my loss slows down. I completely understand this is easier said than done but try not to focus on and stress about the scale right now.
  17. I was allowed tea and coffee in a week or two after the operation and I've had no issues with either. I was a 2 or 3 cup a day person as well (in addition to the soda). I still have coffee every day (no soda) but its more like half the size of an espresso shot. I just don't feel like I need more. My energy levels are pretty good through the day so I don't need any "pick me ups".
  18. I lost a lot from the neck, shoulder, upper back and thighs. Things are coming off a lot slower from the abdomen/gut. Its a beautiful sight!!

    Height and Weight Photos

Thats an interesting site. I might have been too aggressive with my weight goal for my height.

Where are all my NYC people

Live in Manhattan. Got sleeved on Nov 22 2010. Can actually walk up the subway steps now without panting and sweating like crazy!
  22. Nov 22 2010 here. Lost 133 pounds after surgery so far (started at 497 though). I was keeping to 600 calories till a couple of weeks ago but I hit a minor stall. I've increased my calories to around 800 and added some carbs and the loss seems to have resumed. I take a tablet for Vitamin D, in addition to the multi vitamin, thats pretty much did. Only regret is that I should have had the operation sooner!!

    Diets.

I'm not sure if I qualify for a "serious lowcarber" title but I keep carbs to below 30 gm/day. My doctor actually recommended more carbs (no specific number, but more veggies, bread etc.). It was more of my personal taste and I didn’t really feel like eating breads or rice etc. I can be happy eating protein all day. I'm around 4.5 months post op and even now pretty much all my carbs come from fruits or nuts. I've personally felt that my energy levels are more a factor of getting enough protein in. The low carb aspect hasn't really bothered me.

    VERY frustrated at my doctor!!!

Yeah, try to switch doctors. Like someone once said, remember that half of all doctors finished in the bottom half of their class!!
