Pre Surgery Cardio Consult
justdance replied to Guitrman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me I went in they gave me an ekg.. than the doc came in and talked and listened to my heart. And sent me to get an echo(ultrasound of the heart).. now I am 28 with no comorbidities and the older you r the more likely you will be sent for a stress test. Especially if you have any comorbidities. -
Well u r still put out but they use the epidural to keep u more numb

I have done all my clearances and have received approval from insurance. Now I am just waiting for Monday to come so I can schedule my surgery date and pre-op testing. Was just wondering if anyone could tell me what is involved in the testing before surgery..

Went for my Pre op today- 1st I ever heard of a catheter being used
justdance replied to warrior68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked about and was told yes I would need one.. he said because the surgical room and bed need to be as sterile as possible and that it would give him a good answer on my urine output and to make sure my kidneys were operating well. Now I have seen here and on OH that a few people could not go pee after surgery and to.have a catheter inserted after surgery.. trust me I'm not a fan of this either. It will be my first one and was one of my main concerns but I would rather keep everything sterile and at least its inserted while your sleeping. And just think of the pain meds you will be on when they take it out, u won't feel anything!!! -
You will do great.. I will be in you shoes soon enough in march. My prayers are with you:-)

Thanku all for ur input.. I really appreciate it.. blackberry juice, your are definitely someone for me to aspire to.....

I just had my echo today for part of my clearance.. I'm just so scared that they are going to find something wrong and was just wondering if they did, find maybe a murmur. Does anyone here have heart murmurs or problems and was vsg surgery still performed

pro's / con's to being honest about having surgery
justdance replied to newmefeb8's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm pretty sure that topic is over and done with. Not sure who you are referring to. But just like your entitled to have your opinion so am I -
Had my psych eval yesterday. I feel like I might of said to much about my personal history.. just family issues. I have no prior drug or alcohol issues. Do u think it could cause a delay at all. I already have been in therapy for a while now. When I asked the psychiatrist what he thinks after all was said and done. He said I did fine and I should be all set and he was gonna have to go over everything and if he had questions he would call. Was just wondering if anyone felt this way and what happened. Thanks!

justdance replied to newmefeb8's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Listen no one here is here to make enemies but I was just upset that you prefaced your comment by "it disturbs me to see people who want to keep this a secret"..that's all.. now I'm here bc I soon will be getting this surgery and I look for postiveness.. so I wish you the best -

I agree with bzbutterfly79.. we come here to not be judged but somehow through peoples posts we are.. all the poster wanted was your expierence not what u think about what other people chose to do and how you feel about it.. its everyone's own decision to handle things the way they do. As for me I only told my husband and good friend I don't believe everyone needs to know my business. And it certainly wasn't a shame thing. It's a mind your won business thing.. so the next time you want to sit here and judge people on why they choose not to tell. Take your own advice and skip over the topic -
feel like i said to much
justdance replied to justdance's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanku so much... makes me feel more at ease.. hopefully in 2 weeks ill have my answer -
Ok so tell me if this is the norm.. I went for my initial consultation and I was told that while my stats were being sent out for pre approval through the insurance company I could go and get my clearances through the cardiologists, pulmonary doc, and psych test.. just wondering what pre approval actual meant and will my insurance cover all these tests that are for pre approval

So here is my dilemma. I have decided not to tell any family members besides my husband and a few of my girlfriends that I am getting wls. So I need to have a story as to why I might not be able to do things for a little while.. and I also visit my sister once a week and help her take care of her kids, how can I avoid not picking up the baby... so as I realize that lying isn't the best. I do not have another choice. If I say I'm having surgery for another reason.. they will all want to come and visit me.. so I guess I'm asking for tips from anyone who is also going through this situation of having to keep things from people. Just an FYI, I'm not telling them because when I have talked about it in the past they all we very negative about it.. this is for me not them!

Do they make you treadmill during an EKG test?
justdance replied to DougNichols's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a cardiology tech and ekg tests are just the ones where the electrodes are connected to you and u are lying down takes just 2 mintues.. stress tests are done only with the treadmill. -
Just wondering if anyone has this insurance and if you had any problems with approval
