  1. Do I have a choice to not have a catheter? I really don't want a uti and I hear vsg surgery only lasts around an hour and thought only for longer surgeries those were given... please that is a concern of mine so whether u had one or not I would like to hear about it..
  2. Ok so I went for my pre-op class on Monday. And the more I look at other peoples post-op diets the more I think this one is insane. I will be in the hospital for 2 nights and will be coming home the third day and that is when ill start purees. My doctor said. I can have 1 protein shake to replace a meal and/or the rest I have to have 3 tbsp of purees meat however I like it. I can season it, use sour cream, cheese, marinades, cottage cheese etc. But that's it, no vegetables till I'm 2 mos. Out and no fruit till after 3 mos. I can't have milk, coffee, hot cereal, mashed potatoes, no refried beans, no tomatoes/sauce.... so I'm scared of having no nutrition, because let's face it his diet recommendations suck I think. Its so restrictive and is severely lacking nutrition. What should I do? I honestly want to follow my own diet within reason
  3. I was deathly afraid of getting a blood clot after surgery. So I stopped taking it 2 mos before surgery and just used condoms. I've actually chosen not to go back on any b.c. so still we r using them. No one in that room will care if u have ur period.. think about all the women who have emergency surgery for whatever reason. Don't worry about it.
  4. Can't believe its already been a week. I did end up having a complication. I was bleeding from the staple line and my blood pressure got to 60/40. They went back in about 5 hours later and repaired it. I needed two blood transfusions. And spent a few unexpected nights in icu. The scariest part was that I had no pre existing conditions I was just overweight. I'm 28. so it really can happen to anyone. I pray that the rest of my recovery is uneventful. hope all is well with everyone else
  5. I'm just trying to help people get the right mindset. I have people in my support group who are literally telling people that they chew stuff up and then spit it out. I'm like seriously, this is why we see so many failed wls. For any pre-op's and post-op's I'm here if you wanna talk.
  6. So my journey began in December with the decision to get the vsg. I couldn't stand the thought of getting my guts rearranged or a plastic ring and string put inside me. So I chose vsg! I started out weighing 304 when I went in to see the doc for the first time(I'm 5'5 female). When I started the preop diet in April I was 286 and got down to 267 on the surgery date. Well I hit a couple of rough Patches after surgery. I went in with nothing wrong with me Healthwise except for being overweight. So I know myself and my doctor were thinking this was gonna be a breeze. So about 5 hours after surgery my blood pressure dropped to 60/40 and I was rushed downstairs for emergency surgery. They figured I had bleeding going on somewhere. Well turns out I had bleeding at the staple line. So they fixed me up and here I am today. And even saying that I would do it again. I've seen posts on here and always looked for them when I was a pre-op, about complications. Well I had one I am 28 and yes I was heavy but that was it. I had a catheter and a drain as well. But being a little over 2 months out I love my sleeve. Best thing I did complication and all. I am now down to 224! So I thought I would make a list on some good things and some things I wish I could change. The good: -glad I didn't tell a lot of people -love that my pants are falling off of me -tmi.... Sex is way better -my husband has been so supportive -always make my own meals -have exercised since day 1 out of the hospital. Walked for the first 6 weeks. I now do spinning classes and I am lifting weights -loving the compliments -my doc is happy with my progress -search like crazy for recipes, it helps so much Some pointers -stop eating before ur full, my sign that I'm done is hiccups. My doc gives me 30 mins to eat and I take my time and chew very well. Small bites -please exercise we all don't want to but ur doing this for a new life. You have to be commited to everything -I do have bad days when I want things like fast food or bread. I did not go through all of that to eat like how I used to. Now some people can have a little of this and a little of that. But that's not how my mind is. Those days are over for me. some may not agree but I'm talking about myself here. Those are trigger foods and will not be allowed back in my diet. Well good luck to all! Do what feels right. Be a success!
  7. I know your not looking for criticism. I just really wish you weren't eating pizza 6 weeks out. Ok that said. I want to help you its such a daily battle and its so hard to say no to things. But remember why you did this. You went through a lot to get here. You should be proud of yourself for having the balls to do this surgery. You can eat a whole slice of pizza because that's a slider food. What about steak or chicken how much can you eat of that. I bet its not the whole piece. You are worth making better decisions on what foods you eat. Good luck to u! Please find the strength to get back on track

    Hair Loss

To be thin 2011, you are rude! Just bc u can write stuff doesn't mean u should. We should all be so awesome and humble as you.
  9. I agree with foxbins.. same thing with me and by the third week I was all good
  10. Ok so after reading that 5 year study where it stated that some people who had severe reflux and had to be revised to bypass...what??? Ok so my question is done anyone here have severe reflux? Did u always suffer from it before surgery? Reason I'm asking is because I don't have any problems with reflux(pre-op still) and I don't want any. I don't want to be on medication for life or worse have to have bypass in the end. Something none of us wanted in the first place. I do realize we are put on ppi's after surgery for a few months but crap, this news is slightly depressing

    feeling blue

I totally feel the same. I actually started crying at the grocery store. And then once I got home I cried in the driveway before I brought the groceries in. It's been 3 weeks for me and I'm mourning the loss of food. And my diet is so different than most that I feel lost. I eat only 3 times a day, its all I'm allowed. I can eat eggs meat and cheese and that's it. The meat can be prepared anyway I like. But I'm not allowed any milk or tomato based products.. its extremely restrictive. So I'm also having a hard time with that. I guess ill feel more normal once I get to add veggies and fruits in.
  12. Just wondering if anyone else feels like they have a bit more saliva then pre surgery?
  13. justdance

    extra saliva?

Ok. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one. I especially notice it once I'm exercising. Thanks for replies!!!
  14. Well I'm 3 weeks out and I'm a stomach sleeper and can really only lay on my back or my right side.. stomach and left side hurt to much still. left side is were the biggest incision is for some people. I mean its like only 1.5in. long but its were a lot of the work was done and were the stomach gets pulled out. It's not the most comfortable but you get a little used to it. Can't wait to go back to my stomach. Everyone is different on when they are able to go back to their normal way of sleeping
  15. Hello everyone. Well I wanted to update with my story of having a complication and went to see my doctor today. Everything is doing so much better. I was 304 when I started the process and pre-op I was 268 and today I weigh 252. I'm so happy. No I have struggled with fear of another complication but I'm trying to stay positive. So i asked the doctor to tell me again what exactly happened. He said I had bleeding in my abdomen and he saw a little clot on the staple line and when he touched it, it had started to bleed so he cauterized it. And then he was done. So here I am almost 2 weeks later almost back to normal except for the normal left incision pain. Hope all is well with you guys! Thanks for the continued support

    4 Month Progress Pics

Love your hair.. and your outfit screams confidence. Congrats!
  17. U look amazing!!!!! Be proud of how far you've come.
  18. So I had a protein shake and it was about 8 ounces and took me about an hour to drink. I'm 8 days out and very fearful that I drank to much because I felt so full. I just am scared I could cause myself a leak. I feel like I push liquids to the limit.. all u ever hear is people saying liquids go right through. But do they? I don't have pain but I'm working myself into a tizzy thinking a may have caused a problem. Help me get my sanity
  19. justdance

    scared i drank to much

No I wish. That's all he allows and then at 2 months I can introduce veggies and 3 months fruits. Trust me I have thought of doing what all u are doing but not sure if I should. I hate cottage cheese but love ricotta. I'm seeing him Friday and I'm gonna ask if I can have some kinda break.

    scared i drank to much

Thankyou Virginia. You really helped calm me down as well.

    scared i drank to much

Thanku everyone. Really appreciate your input. It's just that after having a complication already which was bleeding at staple site and being rushed back into surgery 5 hours after my original one. I'm a bit paranoid of a leak now. Followed by some buyers remorse I'd even hate to say. My diet is so strict meat cheese eggs and cottage cheese. That's it for the next 2 months. I want refried beans and ricotta cheese and yogurt, milk, etc. Can't even have marinara sauce. Nothing with tomatoes. I really thought I could handle the diet. Just have to stay positive
  22. Thank you everyone. I had surgery local. With a well known doctor. I will see him Friday and will be asking for a recap on what exactly happened. And I will report back to you guys. I feel pretty good now and I'm walking and drinking and eating my pureed meals(not exactly the highlight of my day) I hope so much that the worst is over and appreciate all your well wishings. My husband had been an absolute dream. I love that man. Glad you are all okay and can't wait to hear the progress we will all be making!
  23. Ok so I had surgery Monday and I now experience this weird sensation that happens after I drink or eat. It's not super painful and it feels likes it hurts when its going down my stomach and then its over. I do not get nauseous or puke. I have heard of esphogeal spasms but was wondering if there was some kind of stomach spasms. It's just annoying. I am on pureed foods. My doctor starts that right after surgery. But its with water as well so I don't think its a texture thing.. any help would be awesome!!!
  24. I do the same and do it multiple times a day.. I fluctuate between 96-98.6.. I also take my blood pressure morning and night(worked in the medical field). It definitely gives me peace of mind that's for sure. After having a complication.
