Newbie from Southern Maryland : )

That's great, Ashley!! My insurance is covering my procedure, July 22nd -- so excited, 100% also but they required me to do 6 months of a controlled diet and a psychiatric evaluation first. I guess the first thing to do would be to verify with them if they require anything, then you'll have to go see your Primary Care Physician and they can give you a referral of a local surgeon! I'm seeing Dr. Amin at Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, MD. If you have any questions, you can email me at kimberly.pacino@yahoo.com if you'd like. GOOD LUCK, you're on your road to Healthyville!! -
Hey there! I'm going to be banded on July 22nd and would LOVE to have a buddy through this process. Things like this are always hard for me, hence, resorting to surgery. If you'd like to share the experience, let's get together!!

Congratulations!! How is your weight loss coming? Thanks for the tip, I'll make sure I have my electric blanket handy. I guess I can thank my ex-boyfriend for leaving it when I gave him the boot! lol Do you work? If so, how long were you out of commission? I have ready it can be anywhere from 3 - 10 days. My surgery is on a Friday so I just let my work know that I may be back to the office the following Thursday, sooner if it's tolerable.

That's great, Congratulations!! Right now, I'm just SUPER excited. The terrified part will probably happen at 6am on my surgery day as I get prepped! lol I had knee surgery in 2009 and I know they have something to calm me down, so I will not be afraid to ask for it, you shouldn't either. It'll make ya giggle!!

Hey there! I got my surgery date on Monday for Friday, July 22nd! WooHoo! It's been a long road for me because my insurance company required 6 months of a controlled diet and nutritional appointments, along with the psychiatric evaluation. I haven't lost as much as I should have because I don't exercise every day, but I started this journey at 284 and I'm down to 262. I start my 2 week liquid diet on July 8th and have scheduled to go out for my "Last Supper" with friends on the 7th. I'm very open about the fact that I'm having surgery, I don't see anything wrong with it at all. I've posted it all over my Facebook page as well. If people haven't seen it, once I start posting pictures I'm sure they'll ask! Good Luck to everyone!!

Oh okay, I see. I live in Southern Maryland, Waldorf to be exact, and all of my nutritional classes and doctors appointments have been at Southern Maryland Hospital - so I'm assuming Dr. Amin will do the surgery there, I'd be surprised if he didn't. They haven't given me a personalized meal plan or anything of that sorts, but they have given me a boatload of information on choosing the right foods and trying to live healthier before and after surgery. In order to have the surgery, and have my insurance pay for it, they require me to complete 6 months of a dieting plan, a psychiatric evaluation and have a BMI over 30 - which I'm WAY over. My cardiologist had me do an ekocardiogram and a sonogram of my galbladder; and I had to quit smoking. I don't do well dieting either and that's why I'll always refer to it as a Lifestyle Change because everyone diets and then gains it all back. But if I change my lifestyle and the way I think and eat - I can't go anywhere but down. I started at 284 and I'm down to between 269 and 272 depending on the day and time I weigh myself. The hardest thing for me is getting motivated to exercise every day! lol -

That's awesome, my sister lives in PA and is shooting for a May banding also. If you don't mind me asking, why are you going out of state to have your surgery? How are you doing with the new information you've been receiving? I'm doing alright though I've had some cheating days and didn't lose as much as I know I could have this 2nd month but I'm doing good so far this last week, I keep telling myself it's mind over matter. lol -

I've been looking around and can't find anything online yet. If you find some information, please pass it on. I live in Waldorf, MD; Charles County. I haven't had surgery yet, am on my 3rd Nutritionist appointment and probably won't have surgery until July or August. Hopefully sooner. *crosses fingers* I'm down almost 15 pounds so far though, so Woot Woot!
