When does hunger diminish ?
kellyw74 replied to cathy's sleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I have lost 26lbs in 7 weeks. I do follow my plan and only eat 3 times a day with no snacking, even if I am starving, I don't stray! I have dieted for years and know that when I follow my plan, I have good results. I just feel like I am dieting again and that is not what this is supposed to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My dr. assures me that it will get better and I am doing an awesome job, so I will keep on keeping on I suppose!! It is just so hard to stay focused when your stomach growles all the friggen time. That is all I think about!!! It is exhausting looking at the clock to see when I ate and when I can again. STOP THE INSANITY!! Kelly -
That is GREAT!! I am 7 weeks tomorrow and have only lost 26! You go girl! Kelly

When does hunger diminish ?
kellyw74 replied to cathy's sleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquids just don't stay in our system for a long time, that is why you are hungry all of the time. They run right thur us. However, I will be 7 weeks out tomorrow, on soft foods and still am hungry all of the time. My growling stomach has never left me. I am so bummed!! I wanted that more than anything and I still feel hungry 80%of the time! I hope yours resolves when you are able to eat! Kelly -
I don't have chewable gaviscon, have chewable gas x. I do have liquid gaviscon. I will take some of it today and see how it goes and keep ya'll posted. I know that Dr.'s don't know everything too. I did, however, search on the internet for acid causing false hunger after he told me that there was no scientific evidence that supports that theory. AND I did not find a thing, other than talk here about it. So, maybe he is right! I don't know, I just wish somone would make it STOP!! LOL Kelly

Happy Birthday Girlfriend!! I am glad you had popcorn. I was wondering about this myself, as I am going to the movies next weekend to see that new Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks movie and I would LOVE to have some! My dietician said they put it on the no no list because it has a lot of Fiber in it and can cause a lot of gas. I am also not supposed to have Beans, but I do. Everything seems to give me gas anymore, so if I get gassy, OH WELL! It is nice to know that it doesn't make people sick! I have not had any real issues with anything I have eaten this far, except chicken feeling stuck so hopefully I won't with the popcorn either! Chicken works now tho! I hope you had a fantastic day! Hugs!! Kelly

Need some good come back tips for the neg. people
kellyw74 replied to Was a humpty dumpty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told NOBODY except my husband for THAT EXACT reason!! My own mother doesn't even know!! There is no way anyone could ever know unless I told them. How could they??? I lost 55lbs pre-op so, as far as they know I am on a diet! I hate negative ignorant people and I would tell them to BITE ME! Kelly :D :D :D -
Awww. Thanks Meggie! Yes, it is HUNGER!! I never had the head hunger thing. My stomach GROWLS for real all the friggen time! I heard people say it is false hunger from acid, but my dr. says that is bologna and there is no science to back this theory up! So, scratch that idea!! I do take Nexium, so I guess I just deal with it. I have always had to ignore it to lose weight and I guess I will have to continue if it doesn' t leave. I so wished it would go, but maybe I will be one of the one's that is unlucky! I do notice that it is not that RAVENOUS hunger like before. It is like it is more manageable now. Like I CAN wait to eat. Where as before, I had to eat now!!! Kelly

To tell or not?? That is a very personal choice. I personally did not tell a soul but my husband and still have not! I don't think it is anyone's business and I didn't want to hear all the negative comments and have my loved ones try to convince me not to do it. I knew what I wanted to do and that it was the right thing for me. I didn't need anyone to tell me otherwise! I may one day tell my mom, but for now, I am on a low carb, high Protein diet with exercise. That is the truth and I lost 55lbs pre-op, so nobody really suspects too much! Good luck in whatever decision you make! Kelly

Does this have that Protein smell and taste to it or is it much tastier than others that are just NASTY?????? The smell of Protein drinks just gags me!! Thanks, Kelly -
You will be able to drink and eat again! I promise...your tummy is really swollen and has to calm down! Right now tho, you need to focus on staying hydrated and not on Protein. That is not important at this stage of the game! Your health is!! Sip your Water and broth and watever other liquids you can and don't worry about the protein for a few weeks. You will be fine!! Feels like there is an alien in my stomach..my tummy doesn't like protein shakes
kellyw74 replied to imawhodat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried the Unjury chicken soup? It is really tasty. I used it alot during the liquid and full liquid stage to keep me hydrated. I could not do the protein shakes, they gag me and gave me the squirts! The Unjury is really good if you put some of your own chicken broth in it. It makes it taste even better and one envelope has 21 g of protein. Lots of protein for 8 oz of liquid! Get some! Kelly -

I was sleeved 5/9/11 and from 6/6 thru 6/16 lost NOTHING!! I was bummed! I had my first follow-up appointment with my surgeon on 6/16 and he advised me that losts of paitents stop losing when transitioning to solids. I stopped losing the minute that I started eating solid foods! How weird. He told me that it would be o.k. and that my body would adjust and I would start losing again and to just follow my guidelines and I would be fine. It also was TOM and maybe that had something to do with it, who knows, but I am to not eat "soft calories" any longer and focus more on solid foods like meat. I have been doing so since last Thursday and have lost 4lbs!! This morning when I weighed I hit ONEDERLAND!!! 199.1 I have not had my weight start with a one in 10 years. How awesome is that? I feel great, look better than I have in I can't remember and Saturday, bought size 12's! Go Me! Kelly

getting rid of the gas
kellyw74 replied to jcollins510's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Monday and when I woke up, I was in KILLER pain from gas. That was the only pain I had. As the night went on, it just intensified and the next day, I could not even sit up straight or take a deep breath! I was MISERABLE!! There is NOTHING you can do for that gas pain. I did Gas X, even though my dr. said it wouldn't help, I tried anyway!! LOL!! I tried heating pad, laying on my side and pulling my knees up (as much as I could), kinda like you do a baby, that did nothing. I was just sick I walked A LOT and that did nothing either! I prayed that I would fart or burp, but couldn't!! Man it was awful!! Finally, about day 3 1/2, I got to tootin' and LOUD!! Tooted one to many times and crapped my pants! LOL Then I had diahreah for 3 days! But, I felt better! So, it WILL break loose, just have to give it about 3-4 days. Sorry that there isn't anything that will help. Kelly -
Can't drink anything but water...and I want to cry.
kellyw74 replied to imawhodat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does your dr. know? There are meds out there for the spasams and if you have not told him, you really should. I am sure you have been told, but it REALLY will get better. A lot of people have had this issue and it gets better, I promise! You WILL love your sleeve one day!! It is just hard in the beginning. Keep doing what you can, when the swelling goes down day by day, you will see that you are able to get more fluids in, but seriously try to drink. You need to stay hydrated. Hugs, Kelly -
That is AWESOME!! Congrats! Kelly

You can have an NG tube, just not a Blind NG tube!! My case manager said that we should never have an BLIND NG tube because normally, when an NG tube is inserted, they pass the tube through your nostril and down into your stomach without using a viewing device such as a camera to help with placement, but using their instinct and med school procedures. After WLS you do not have as much stomach anymore, so they need to not do this procedure blind but use a camera and LOOK where they are putting it so that they do not accidentally poke a hole in your stomach thinking the tube should go down farther. Kelly
