When you were able to start eating regular solid food, what did you eat?
kellyw74 replied to juzmejnee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on the soft food stage now and have been for about 3 weeks. My first meal was an egg with melted cheese. SOO YUMMY, even though I could only eat 1/2 of it!! I then had some pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy. yummy!! i have boiled egg whites and turkey sausage a lot for breakfast. turkey jerky for snack. banana, cantalope and watermelon a few times a week. foster farms turkey meatballs are my friend right now, i have them a lot for lunch. i can usually only eat 2, but they are super good. cheese is yummy-all sorts. luchmeat rolled up with laughing cow cheese wedge spread on it.! i like baked chicken better than grilled, it is not so dry. salmon and tuna are also good and go down well. there really has not been too much that i have tried and haven't been able to handle. in the beginning, chicken salad and refried beans did not work, they felt stuck and so did cottage cheese, but now, everything is fine. i think i was still too swollen and it just took time. i have not tried too many veggies at this point besides green beans, potatoes, yams and cooked onions. they all were fine on my sleeve. take your time when you get there and eat one thing at a time to see what works for you. good luck! Crackers Anyone ???
kellyw74 replied to prairiedawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I eat crackers, I eat Wheat Thins. YUMMY!! Kelly -
Could someone take the 5 packets of splenda and tell me how much that is? I only have the ECONO bag...no packets. Is is 5 tsp? Thanks, Kelly

Make sure you thin the beans a little with water. They are really thick and might not go down well. I had real issues with them on my pureed stage. I couldn't do them. They felt stuck. I was so upset because I love them and so wanted to eat them. I couldn't do chicken salad either. I hope you have better luck!! Now that I am further out 71/2 weeks, I can eat both. I think my swelling just took longer to go down than most. Kelly

So, for the past two days I have been getting really bad reflux. I had been told that my refulx issues could get worse after surgery and that was a big complaint among sleevers. I had not had any problems until I started eating food. When I was on liquids I was fine. Started soft foods on Monday and BAM! I was so sick yesterday, I thought I was gonna lose it in my car on the drive home last night! It was that bad. I take 40mg of Nexium twice a day too. I am starting to feel like that again right now. It feels like I have pepper stuck on the back of my tounge, that is how it starts. I never felt like that before surgery. Then the burning in my throat and almost like I am having chest pains! OMG! I go on the 16th to see my Dr. for my first follow-up. I sure hope he can give me something else to take. This is awful! I could understand if I ate something bad, but all I have had today was some cheese, cottage cheese and a couple slices of lunchmeat. UGGG! Kelly

It is soooo yummy! They take the rotissary chicken they sell and chunk it up. They put pepper in it and mayo, celery, onion and I don't know what else, but it is FANTASTIC!! If you like chicken salad, you should get some. BUT, don't eat the celery in it cuz us sleever's are suppose to have raw celery. It is in the area with their made stuff, like the rolls and trays. Get some, you will not be disappointed!! Kelly

YAY FOR YOU!! I too was really dizzy in the beginning. MY bp was getting regulated and I was anemic. I still get lightheaded and feel as if I will pass out if I get up too fast or bend over sometimes! It is WEIRD!! Just take it easy if you feel that way for a bit and you will be o.k. it just takes our bodies time to adjust. Kelly

diarrhea after 4 weeks
kellyw74 replied to mimidots's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had it too for about 3 weeks. I attributed it to the protein drinks. atkins shakes were the worst and really made me have to go!! once i stopped drinking those, i was better. if you are drinking a lot of protein drinks, stop them for a few days and see if it stops. that could be your problem. my dr. doesn't like me to have them anyway! says i should get my protein from solid sources as it stays with me longer. i do have one occassionaly, but now, they don't bother me anymore. good luck! Kelly -
FIrst day on protein shakes...so far so good!
kellyw74 replied to imawhodat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When i was first sent home, I was to drink 1oz every 15minutes for the first week. Then 2oz every 15 minutes and work my way up to 40oz a day in week 3. I now can drink like a fish at 7 weeks out! I always could drink more than I was supposed to. Never had any issue with liquids. They don't fill me up or give me restriction. I did, in the begining, feel a tightness in my chest if I drank too fast, but it would go away quickly. Just sip, sip, sip. Maybe a sip a minute and you will have that shake down in no time. If it is too fast for you, you will feel it. Kelly -
HMMMM! 25 of you viewed this and none of you ate yesterday??? I find that a little odd. Kelly

WOW!! That is next week. Congrats!! Kelly -
Hello and welcome!! I too am diabetic. NOT insilin dependent, but did take medication prior to surgery. 7 days after surgery, my blood sugars were completly NORMAL and I do not take my meds anymore!! WOOT. I also have been taken off my high bp meds! We were sleeved about the same time. I was 5/9/11 and what you are experiencing is SOO normal. I have lost 28lbs, but for about 2 1/2 weeks, I lost NOTHING!! I think our bodies have to take a break for a minute and say "WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON"!! Don't get discouraged. You can not, not lose weight with the sleeve. As long as you are following the rules, you will lose! You have also come to the right place. Everyone here is so nice and supportive. You will find answers to everything you need right here. Just ask! Kelly

Good luck! I will save a spot for you on the loser's bench! Kelly

Does stopping Nexium make you hungry?
kellyw74 replied to New & Improved Mel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I SURE HOPE NOT!!! I feel as if I could eat a horse all the damn time! If I have to feel this way for the rest of my life, I will just die!!! Kelly -
Does stopping Nexium make you hungry?
kellyw74 replied to New & Improved Mel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take Nexium daily and am still have that hungy feeling all the time. I really don't think Nexium has anything to do with it. My Dr. also says that their isn't any scientific evidence to support the theory about "FALSE HUNGER" from acid. I have googled and googled and can't find any either. Who knows why we are so hungry when we shouldn't be? I just ate a boiled egg and turkey sausage link and my stomach is growling like I haven't eaten in 2 days! Kelly -
WOO HOO!! GOOD JOB! Kelly
