OKAY THAT WAS WEIRD!!!!
kellyw74 replied to Jinjin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the same thing about 2 weeks out!! Not choking, but I sneezed. OH MY GOODNESS!! IT hurt so badly!! I definatly knew I did something because I instantly felt pain!! It was in my biggest incision and then it stopped. For several days and maybe even a week or so it burned and would get really bad pain in there, like something was wrong. My dr. assured me that I pulled an internal stitch and that I would be fine! Hope you are too!! Kelly -
What size egg do you buy?
kellyw74 replied to 300PoundsDown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep. And I bet you will not be able to eat it all!! I ate my first egg at 4 weeks out and could not finish it all! I was blown away that one egg was too much for me!! LOL I buy large eggs. Now, I am 8 1/2 weeks out and can eat a whole scrambled egg most days if I don't put cheese on it, if I do put cheese on it, I can eat about 3/4 of it. I can however eat 1 1/2 boiled eggs. WEIRD! Is the ACID forever now?
kellyw74 replied to Tippy2us's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They say it takes 6 months for the stomach to calm down after surgery. That is why it is recommended to stay on the PPI for that long after surgery. My dr. said that some acid issues can get MUCH worse from the surgery and I was so afraid of that. However, mine got better! I have not had any issues thus far at 8 1/2 weeks out! Some that never have issues develop them and some go away! It just depends! I hope yours gets better. If you don't think the meds are doing the trick, ask for somehting else, you may need something stronger!!! Kelly -
When will I feel thin?
kellyw74 replied to ILKrista's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel the same way. I know in my head that there isn't any way I am the fattest person in the world anymore. That is how I felt before I lost 88lbs. I look in the mirror and I see a smaller me, but I still look fat. Everyone says I am not fat, that I am thin. I am 5' 8" tall and weight 192lbs. I use to wear a 22/24 and now can wear a loose 12!! WOW! I wear L tops and size 7 panties from a tight 9! I know several people that wear those sizes and I don't think they are fat! I think our brains get twisted or something and we have to take time to let it soak in! I still go to the big sections at stores thinking that stuff in the small section wont fit me. How weird is that! I pick up L tops and think it will never fit and when it does, I think I look fat in it. Mind-distortion i guess!! SICK! Hopefully one day it will stop! Kelly -
HELP...glucose levels up???
kellyw74 replied to kids05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too was fighting my diabetes pre-surgery, but now it is in remission!! YAY I agree with the others. First of all,you should wait 2 hours to check your levels after you eat. That will give you a "TRUE" reading. I could eat and check mine in 20 minutes and it be 204, but in 2 hours it would be 99. The 2 hours gives your body time to process the food. So wait 2 hours before checking for accurate reading! Second, Apple is correct, I could eat a snicker bar and my sugar would not raise nearly as high as it would if I ate a baked potatoe or french fries!! Something about the sugar in carbs that made my levels go thru the roof!!! Oatmeal is that type of carb too and bananas are SUPER bad for diabetics! Watch your carb intake and check 2 hours after your meal. If you are higher than 129 after 2 hours for a few days worth of meals, call your dr. Kelly -
Will I ever be able to drink large quantities of water without stopping?
kellyw74 replied to ismini9's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can!! And could about 4 weeks out. I have not had any issues with liquids at all. I took the recommended sips for 3 weeks and then took bigger and bigger drinks. It hurt a few times in my chest and I backed off. I was still swollen I am sure. I take 3-4 big sips out of a straw without stopping and 2-3 big swallows just drinking out of a cup. I can drink a 16 oz bottle of water in no time! I think most on here can drink without issue!! Kelly -
I know right??? Well in his mind, without seeing what I am eating that is probably what one would think!! If you don't lose you eat too much! I would think that too!! But not when you eat 300 calories a day!! I think he forgot for a second that I had surgery!! LOL I have Kaiser and they do not make us count calories, carbs or Protein. They say you are dieting if you do that. This is not a diet, it is a lifestyle. They just want us to eat 3 times a day a certain amount and that is it. Well, that criteria can not work for everyone! And it doesn't for me! I can not just eat 300 calories a day and I WONT!! Maybe at 6 months out when I can eat 300 calories at a time, I will, but for now, I am not. Kelly

Need some help from experienced sleevers!
kellyw74 replied to mnbsleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will tell you that my stomach was a MESS for about a month. I had the squirts until I went to solid foods. Protein drinks made it worse and all my stomach did was rumble!! I could get it down, I was not nauseated or throwing up, but it was coming out the other end ALOT!! I didn't feel bad I just had to go when I would drink those shakes and eat soft-calorie food!! I don't know if it is becuase our new tummy's don't like it already smashed or what, but that was my experience. When I started solid food after week 4, it stopped and I am fine now! I am 8 1/2 weeks out and have not had that issue since. Make sure you are drinking a lot of Water, as you don't want to get dehydrated. I was not able to eat much either. One thing that really helped me was Carnation Instant Breakfast sugar free!!! I mixed it with Light Silk vanilla. YUMMY! You can use whatever milk you like, but it tastes good and doesn't make me sick!! I also used Slim Fast Low carb. Both per the advice of my nut. You may want to try not using the Protein Drinks for a few days to see if that helps you. You might be intolerant to them!! Hope this helps you! Kelly -
3 month post-op dilemma
kellyw74 replied to Marie from Michigan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally go against my dr.'s advice at this point and it is working for me! I am 8/12 weeks out and CAN NOT lose weight on 3 meals a day @ 1/4-12 c of food with no snacks!! That only gives me 300-400 calories a day and my body is in starvation mode. I exercise for an hour a day and burn more calories than that!!! So, I do snack and I consume 650-800 calories a day and I LOSE!! Go figure. I have to in order to get calories up. I can't eat much at one time and have to space it out. I really don't see why it matters if I get it all at once or a little at a time. As long as I get it!! I will continue to do what works and for now, this is working! Kelly -
You physically will not be able to eat large quantities of food. I love food too, but can not eat more than 2oz or 1/4 c of dense Protein at a time and i am 8 1/2 weeks out. There is no way you will EVER be able to eat pre-sleeve again! This is exactly why I chose the sleeve. This is all I needed was portion control. I ate very healty pre-sleeve, just too much of it! Now, I have the best of both worlds, I can eat what I love, just very little! Right now, I am eating Breakfast. 2 not 12 foster farms turkey meatballs. And when I finish them, I will be good to go till lunch in 4 hours!! CRAZY!! that I can eat so little and be so satisfied, but I do and I am!! Best of luck to you! Kelly

I would just say "oh, did i tell you that i weigh blah, blah, blah now" and leave it at that! She will be so envious knowing that you are smaller and it will eat her up!! I can't stand people like that. Why does everything have to be a competition??? UGGG! Kelly
-
YEP!! You need to chew to liquid consistancy because your new stomach can not do the work like before! Not fun, but true. My dr. had me stop this at 6 weeks, I pretty much chew thoroughly, but not to liquid constistancy like I did in the begining. He said it stays in the stomach longer when it is in pieces and I was starving!! He said my stomach can do the work now! I was glad! Kelly

My plan calls for 3 meals a day and NO snacking. I am 8 1/2 weeks out. When I do this, I only get about 300-400 calories a day at the most!!! This worked fine for me for about 3-4 weeks and then I stopped losing and lost nothing for 2 weeks. My dr. told me that if I wasn't losing I was "EATING TOO MUCH"!!! OMG!! are you serious??? I took it upon myself to experiment and snack!! LOL I found that I have to have more calories, fat and carbs or I don't lose! As soon as I upped my caloires between 650-800 daily, I started losing again! And I can only get in those calories by snacking. I can not consume 200-300 calories a meal just eating 1/4-1/2 c of protein! That will NEVER happen! So, don't tell my dr. but, I snack! Everyday! LOL and it works for me! Kelly

measure salad or other super low cal veggies?
kellyw74 replied to xercisegirl's topic in Food and Nutrition
My plan only calls for 3 meals and no snaks as well. All meals have to be measured as it is volume not calories you should consume! I do not lose when I only eat 3 meals a day because I can only eat like 300-400 calories when I do that. So, I do snack.....shhhh don't tell my dr!!! I have to keep my calories between 650-800 to lose. But yes, measure your food, don't just eat freely and you should eat within a time frame, like 20 minutes is what I am supposed to eat my weighed food in. If I can't finish it, then I am done! Kelly -
how much food should i start out with???
kellyw74 replied to juzmejnee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan started me at 1/4 c 3 times a day. And now I am at 1/2 c 3 times a day. I NEVER eat that much, probably could depending on what it is, but I don't. For the simple fact I don't want to feel full and be uncomfortable. I have never felt my restriction and I will be 9 weeks out on Monday! I truely undereat my sleeve and only eat til I am satisfied and I am fine with that! Kelly -
Please allow me to introduce myself...

Welcome..........and no more lurking!! Join in on the fun!! Kelly -
I am not allowed raw veggies until after 12 weeks, but NEVER celery again. So after August 1st. However, I am scared to do them. I have read how sick they make some and that worries me. I do love salad tho!! I guess my first try will be at home on the weekend!! LOL Kelly
-
Your main focus should be protein and not carbs!!! Pasta is really discouraged because it fills up our sleeve to quickly and is full of carbs. So no! I can't believe your dr. didn't give you any guidelines. Don't you have a nutritionist?? Kelly
-
Does your dr. know how bad you are? Maybe he needs to switch your meds up a little or give you another one on top of the one you are taking! If he doesn't know, call him! Kelly

I feel like I have severe morning sickness
kellyw74 replied to Kim61811's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be able to eat and drink more the further out you go. Getting your liquids in at this point is challenging. That is why it is imerative that if nothing else, you drink your fluids, even if you can't eat!!! Drink WATER!!! Don't take your Vitamins on an empty stomach, that will make you feel sick too!! My vitamins were making me horribly sick and I didn't understand why!! That was it! I started eating first and then I was fine. You might also want to try eating before you take any pills, maybe your sleeve is just super sensitive. Are you alergic to milk? Maybe the Protein drinks are agreeing with you?? Theses are all things for you to take into consideration. If you aren't drinking enough, the nausea could also be because you are dehydrated. Be careful with that!! SIP SIP SIP!! If you don't get better, call your dr. Kelly -
My nut said that baby food is perfectly fine during the pureed stage. For no more of it than you can eat, it will be o.k. However, have you ever tasted it??? NASTY!! No wonder babies spit the crap out!! LOL You are better off just pureeing whatever it is you cook. That way, it will taste like your food, the texture will just be foreign to you. AND just put gravy in it to puree it, NOT WATER!! That will lessen the flavor. When I was on that stage, I loved turkey meatloaf pureed. I just threw some in my magic bullet with some chicken gravy and wizzed it up. Pot roast and carrots are really good pureed too with beef gravy!! YUUM and SOOOO DELISH!! It was like heaven in a spoon. Kelly
