Really worried about MALNUTRITION!
kellyw74 replied to Dawnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doesn't he take a lunch break????? Shouldn't that be a que to eat? Maybe if he is having that much of a problem, he should set a timer. Or you could call him and remind him. When I don't eat for long period of time, I get dizzy. Isn't he experiencing any side effects from not eating?? Kelly -

Is it an Upper GI or...
kellyw74 replied to suez1105's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to have both done! The endoscopy was first and looks at you esophagus all the way to the top of your stomach. Looks for hernias, reflux and can test for HPlori bacteria. The Upper GI was to look closer at what they endoscopy found and looks at how you swallow and how your esophagus works. Kelly -
I too had an extremly easy recovery. With the exception of becoming anemic and being tired, I felt great!! I was able to walk and get all my fluids in daily. I did everything that was expected of me. I went back to work in 7 days and was fine! Kelly

Meggie, I do count ALL my carbs. Veggies, fruits Vitamins all of them. I use myfitnesspal and it calculates them for me. I was just saying that I eat GOOD CARBS mostly beacuase I DO NOT eat bread, Pasta, rice, etc. I rarely have room for veggies and fruit because I DO follow the Protein first rule and can't eat past that! I sometimes have a banana for a snack and those burgers have LOTS of carbs. My Iron and calcium chews have carbs in them too! BUMMER. I am just not fixated on the carb counting like most. I find that if I low carb, I don't lose. I usually get between 55-80 g a day. Most days and sometimes a little less. Kelly

Week 4 was my soft food stage begining and I was able to have eggs. At first, I scrambeled one egg and put some cheese on it. One bite and it was not feeling good. It was like a brick in my throat. I quit and put it in the trash. About a week later, I made another without cheese and I was able to eat about 3 bites and was DONE!! Funny, how little we can eat! I use to eat like 5 eggs!! WOW Now, I am 9 weeks out and I can eat a whole scrambeled egg w/o cheese and about 3/4 with cheese. I love them but don't overcook them! Make them really soft and not rubbery. They will go down easier and feel better. Just when they first start to look done, shut them off. Kelly

Sadly, the alpine punch is the best one!! I just sipped and sipped and tried not to think about it! It is VERY DRY huh?? Pretty soon you will not have to drink that stuff anymore. I was so glad when I didn't have to! Get better soon!! Hugs, Kelly

Hunger--the time game
kellyw74 replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am only 9 weeks out, so i still have hope that my hunger will cease! i have not eaten carbs since before surgery. i mean, i have had fruit, but not bread, rice, Pasta..etc. i have not eaten sweets or really any veggies. i have had a few bites of cucumber and that was about it. i am not allowed raw veggies yet and really don't have room for much after Protein is in! Hunger--the time game

ME!!! I too am hungry like that! I find that my hunger is just about the same as it was before surgery and it DRIVES ME INSANE!! My dr. said false hunger is a myth and there is not any scientific evidence to back this theory up and I do take my PPI everyday. I do not have head hunger, my stomach growles and LOUD most of the day. It is FRIGGEN annoying! Yesterday was a good day, I was not hungry at all and probably only at 400 caloires all day. I wish all days were like that. It felt nice not to have that feeling all day long, but today it is back! I am a little over 9 weeks out and I keep hoping that ONE DAY it will stop! Kelly -

the dreaded question.....
kellyw74 replied to lovemyboys's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree!! I was sleeved at Kaiser Richmond and so thankful for the skilled hands that touched me! My Kaiser is ranked 3rd in the nation for Bariatrics. NOT TOO SHABBY! It doesn't hurt that they educate you to the HILT either. They make sure you know exactly what you are getting into and what is expected of you when you are sleeved. Many people complain about the process, but I think it is great. I see all these people out here on this forum that haven't a clue what to eat or how much to eat and I think to myself, who on earth was your dr.??? It really blows my mind! Kelly -
Call your dr. and ask him. He will give you the o.k to take what is SAFE FOR YOU!! Kelly
-
I agree with Diva. My dr. told me the same thing and told me he would not do RYN, even though I did not want that procedure because I took ibuprofen for back pain and other meds. He said with the sleeve I would be able to continue to take my medications and not have to worry about stopping them. Especially the Ibuprofen because with the other procedures you CAN NOT take it, but with the sleeve you CAN! Kelly

That is funny you say that too!! I stalled big time when I was doing the low carb thing. I upped my calories and carbs and what do you know?? I started losing again. I now stay about 700-850 a day and DON'T low carb. I mean I really don't eat bread, Pasta or rice EVER, but I eat veggies and fruit and those have lots of carbs in them. I find that I lose just fine most weeks (with exception of TOM), but when I don't have many carbs, I stall!! Today, for my carbs, I had a banana 23 carbs and a Pure Protein bar 24 carbs, my calcioum chews have 6 carbs in them for 2, so for today so far I have had 53 carbs and I have not had dinner yet. Probably won't have many more cuz I will just have chicken breast and that doesn't have any carbs in it! Kelly

4 Months and 70 lbs. Later (w/pics)
kellyw74 replied to Amanda131's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You look beautiful Amanda!! GOOD JOB!! Kelly -
And the fact that you physically can not overeat was the whole reason I got the surgery in the first place! I always could lose weight, I just could never keep it off!! I needed something that would restrict my intake. I was a relativley healthy eater, I just ate too much of it! This will not let me eat too much and this is what will keep those pounds off of me in the future!! If I physically can not eat 5 pieces of pizza, then I won't! I may have 1, but not 5 like before! That is what I needed to keep me from putting the weight back on and I know for me, long term, this is my cure! As far as the hunger goes though, I still am hungry! That never left. I am not one of the lucky ones! I have days where it IS better than others, but my stomach still growles all the time like before surgery! Best of luck to you!! Kelly

I was sleeved on 5/9/11 and went back to work on 5/16/11. I was very tired as I became anemic too. I also have a desk job and work 7:30-4:00 m-f. I found it to be much easier when I was able to get more liquids in and actally got to put more food in me...probably about week 3. I was in bed asleep most nights by 8 pm and slept till 5:30 when the alarm would go off! LOL I am now 9 weeks out today and feel like a million dollars!! Everyday gets better and better!! Kelly
