    Progressing to Mushy Foods

I was afraid to go to each new food stage as well. I was always afraid of getting sick on something. I wanted to stay where I was because it was comfortable to me. However, I found that each new stage was just fine. Take it slow, chew slowly. You will know when you have had enough. If you are afraid to overeat, just take 2-3 bites and call it quits the first few times. That is what I did until I became comfortable. I was afraid of throwing up from overeating so I undereat my sleeve. Haven't yet felt full! I do eat a lot more than I did in the first few weeks tho! Just don't stay in the stage you are on. Move on, but take it slow. If you are suppose to go to pureed food, then puree you something and take a few spoonfulls and be done with it. In a few hours when you feel ok eat a couple more bites. You will begin to see that it is o.k. I stopped losing on this stage of food and my dr. said it was because of 'soft calories". He said all of his patients do this and I would lose again when I was able to eat solid Protein. So, if you don't lose for a week or two, don't get discouraged! We all do it. You will know what is right for you and you will be fine!! Kelly

Do you eat meals or wait for hunger?

You are probably not hitting goal because you are not eating!! Not eating will make your body think it is starving and you will not lose weight because you will hold on to everything you have for "reserves"!! In the first few weeks after surgery, I was only eating about 300 calories or less per day! Becasue I was following the 3 meals a day rule. Well, when you can only eat a small amount of food at a time, 3 meals is not much when you can only eat an ounce or two at a time! I stopped losing weight and did not know why! I WAS STARVING eventhough I did not feel hungry! My body thought I was and was not letting it go!! That is why on the days I can not eat enough with my meals, I have Snacks to bring my calories up. The MINUTE I started eating more, I started losing again and MORE!! Crazy, but true! You have to eat to lose weight! Starvation diets do not work! Kelly

    Help - I'm still hungry

liquids will not stay in your stomach for long. that is why you feel hungry. you will feel more satisfied once you are able to have solid food. i was starving until week 4 most of the time. even full liquids did not give me any satisfaction, better, but not good!! hang in there, it is SOOO worth it! Kelly
  7. i agree that it is not painful at all! i was more sore than anything! i looked like i had been beat with a ball bat about 3 days after surgery my whole left oblique and part of my stomach was black and blue and i felt like i had done 3,000 crunches about day 5 until day 15. i never had pain except when i pulled a stitch from sneezing and then i just took liquid tylenol for a few days and i was fine! kelly

    Bra Question

i did not wear a bra in the hospital. was only there overnight. i did not wear one at home either. when i went out for walks i did, but my highest incision was in between my ribcage and about an inch below. so way lower than where my bra sat. you will be fine to wear a bra! Kelly

    Advice please

I did the EXACT same thing and cried and cried to my dr. when i went for my check up!! he told me that EVERY single patient of his does this when they transition to solid foods. something happens to us and when we eat solid foods again, our bodies don't know what is going on. he told me it would be ok and to give it a week or so and i would lose again. and i did!! you will too!! just follow your plan and keep on keeping on and you will be fine. your body is just catching up and is reacting! don't stress. you are doing the right things! Do you eat meals or wait for hunger?

Yes you should eat on a SCHEDULE. I am about the same as Lynda. Here is what I do: Breakfast 7:30-8:30am lunch 12:30-1:30pm dinner 5:30-6:30pm Sometimes, I have a snack if I have not had enough calories for the day in between lunch and dinner or bfast and lunch or both. It just depends on the day and what I am able to eat at one time. Some days I can eat a lot more than others so I don't snack and other days I can't so I have a snack to up my calories. Kelly
  11. I exercise after dinner. I find that it makes me not hungry to exercise and takes my mind off eating. I then shower when I am done and go to bed.!! I am then done for the night! I don't get up in the middle of the night and eat, only to pee. Try going for a walk if you get the urge to eat after dinner. Make that a habit instead of eating! Call someone on the phone. Play with your dog. Find other things to do to keep yourself occupied. Kelly
  12. LOL!! that is funny about the clothes being from you!! Great!! I agree that you will will be flying thru the sizes faster than you can keep up!! I just bought new jeans $8 at Kohls clearance rack 2 weeks ago. I have them on today and have to pull them up everytime I walk!! SO annoying, but so gratifying at the same time!! CONGRATS!! Kelly
  13. I read this forum daily and nothing scares me more than being sick from eating something that is wrong for me!! I have not thrown up from overeating or eating too fast because I am aware this could happen, so I take every measure to make sure that doesn't happen!! I also don't eat things that I think will make me sick! I will be 10 weeks out on Monday and I have not had any sweets for fear of them making me sick. I have read horror stories of people being sick from them. I have not had Pasta, rice, bread or any "bad carb" since before my surgery. I also have not tried any fried foods as some get very sick from it!! Now, I could very easily be one of the lucky ones that don't get sick, but I really don't want to take that chance. So, this is what keeps me real! I only put Protein and a few fruits and veggies in my new tummy at this time! Kelly
  14. I started taking my Vitamins a two months b4 surgery and took them the day after. They were all chewable form. On week 4 post-op, I moved to Centrum multi because the other multi was making me sick and I was able to swallow pills at that point. I also take Citracal now instead of the cewable Calcium. I do still do the chewable Iron and D-3. Kelly

    Peanut Butter?

When I need to get in more calories for the day, I have some Simply Jif on 3 crackers. About 1 TBSP is all, but it still has about 100 calories in the pb. Only eat it when I need extra calories tho. Not an everyday thing! Kelly
  17. i tend to not lose the week before my period starts and the week of. so for 2 weeks i lose nothing!! SUCKS!! however, when i come off of those 2 weeks, i usually lose BIG!! i just keep doing what i know i should and it all evens out!! Kelly

    post op pain meds

I was given the same thing you have, but never took it after I left the hospital. I did go and get some liquid tylenol and took it a couple of times when I pulled my stitches from sneezing. I didn't want to take the Lortab and drive! Kelly
  19. Kaiser N. Califoria does not make you do the 12 weeks of Options classes before the surgery. Kelly

    What to eat

If your dr. has cleared you then by all means have something! You will feel so much more satisfied with solid food than with liquids anyway! The more you experiment the more you will know what you can tolerate and what you can't. I was soooo scared of solid foods too, but I did fine with them. You will too! Have a scrambled softly egg or some thin luch meat with laughing cow cheese spread on it!! YUMM. Try some thinned refried beans or some ricotta bake from eggface. Wendy's chili is really good too. or just eat some cheese that is solid, but smooth. canned tuna is easy to go down and sits nicely. experiment!! Kelly

    Forgetting to eat

I seriously don't know how anyone forgets to eat, but if you are having that issue, set a timer. Or have someone remind you or send you a text or something. You really need to make sure that you eat. It is not healthy to go without food!! Hugs, Kelly

    I'm looking for?

Centrum does. You can also get the walmart brand. label for label it is the exact same and about $7.00 cheaper. That is what I take! Kelly

    Another Gross Question

you all have to remember that just because you don't go doesn't mean you are constipated!! and taking laxatives unnecessarily can really mess your system up. constipation is bloating, pain when trying to have a bm, pressure and trying to go, but can't. if you simply have not pooped in a few days, that IS NOT constipation!!! that just means you don't have anything to get rid of. and when you do, you WILL GO!! i use to go a couple times a day and now I go about 3 times a week. that was a weird thing for me to wrap my head around. and my dr. explained this concept to me and told me if I take laxatives that are not warranted what damage i can do to my system. be careful! Kelly
  24. I was just scheduled for my 12 week post-op group with Kaiser. I live in N. California and attend the Richmond Kaiser for my appointments. I was wondering if anyone has done this and what it is about?? Thanks, Kelly
