My dr. told me NOT to submerge into Water until my seri-strips came off. NO baths or swimming, but showers were fine. Maybe you should ask your dr. Hope this helps! Kelly

Isn't it funny how much each dr. and plan varies?? I too have Kaiser in N. California. I did not have to do a liquid diet, but was told to lose 25lbs. They give you a pre-op diet in a binder. I followed it and lost 55lbs. I did not HAVE TO, but I chose to. My Kaiser is AGAISNT Protein drinks and discourages them totally. I just think it is so crazy how every plan and dr and nut has different ideas. Kelly

I didn't say it to be mean, I said it to make you realize that what you are giving up on is YOURSELF!! How silly to do such a thing. You have come so far and to just stop now is non-sense. That is all! Kelly

That is so great and exciting!! I too am going to see my family in NOvember for my b-day and Thanksgiving. The last time they saw me I was 270lbs. I hope to be at goal by then, only 20 more to go!! Kelly

Timeframe for going back to work?
kellyw74 replied to dreynolds05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have a desk job and had my surgery on Monday and went back the following Monday. I think if you don't have any complications, 10 days is pleanty time!! I was tired because I became severly anemic, but I was fine. Kelly -
My first egg was scarmbled very softly with a little shredded cheese and I was so shocked that I could only eat about 1/2 of it at 4 weeks out. I am 11 weeks out now and STILL can not finish an entire egg with cheese. I can do a whole egg without cheese. I also can eat 1 1/2 boiled eggs. WEIRD!! Good luck! Kelly

i would love to answer any questions you may have!! I am 11 weeks out this past monday and love my sleeve. inbox me or ask your questions here. you will get responses! Kelly -
Kaiser IS VERY STRICT and they tell you that up front! If you gain they don't like that. They don't want to operate on people that are not serious. And now you are just going to give up?? That is why they do what they do, they don't want to operate on you and then have you say, OH WELL, I quit!! I am glad that I had the most strict of surgeons at Kaiser. He kicked my ass into gear. I would not be where I am today if it weren't for him! Kelly

Low carb/no carb alternative to fav foods?
kellyw74 replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in Food and Nutrition
Kristie, I think after you get all of the bad carbs out of your system, you will find that you really don't want them anymore. That is how I feel. I was sleeved 5/9 and have not had any bad carbs at all. I actually did a 5 month pre-op diet and ate very low carb before then also. I have not had bread, Pasta, rice, potatoes,Cookies, cake, pizza, etc.....and I really don't want it either. My body is free of that nasty stuff and the thought never even enters my mind. I think the longer we are away from it, the more we can stay away....it IS an addiction.!! Give it some time and I bet you will find that you won't want it either. Hugs, Kelly -

I agree about them taking great care of you in the hospital! Also about nobody having complications after surgery. I think it has a lot to do with the skilled hands that operate on you. Kaiser Richmond is ranked 3rd in the NATION for bariatric surgery!!! That is OUTSTANDING!!! Considering all of the bariatric surgery centers in the nation. Kaiser Richmond also educates you to the hilt and if you don't comply, you don't get surgery!! MLD, who was your surgeon? Kelly -
Good for you.. Those are great NSV's!! keep it up! Kelly

Bittersweet Birthday (of course it's in my head!)
kellyw74 replied to Husky2Healthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You must think of it this way......where will you be this time next year on your birthday???? Give up stuff now and you will reap the benefits later. Next year, you will be able to eat normally, just smaller portions. You will be able to have a few drinks if that is your passion. You will be much much smaller and you will look awesome!! Don't be sad, be happy and Happiest Birthday to you!! Kelly -
Soft calories are soft liquidy foods in essence. These caloric liquids or soft foods increase the onset of hunger too soon before the next meal. Yogurt, ice cream, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, Soups, etc. They don't stay in our stomachs long and should be avoided after the full-liquid stage as much as possible. We should focus on more solid forms of Protein. Hope this helps! Kelly

I don't like to go to the gym, but I like to walk, jog and use my fitness equipment at my house. Find what you like to do and do that. You don't have to belong to a gym to exercise. There are lots of things you can do without going to a gym. Good luck! Kelly

kellyw74 replied to Dadams2102008's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had nausea once and I have not throw up once. I do follow the rules to a "T" tho. I was 11 weeks out yesterday and I feel great. My dr. is Fisher and he is WONDERFUL!! They do not give you nerve meds, but you will be fine! I wasn't nervous at all until they took me into the surgery room and put me on the table. Then I got a little nervous, but then I woke up and it was over!! The worst for me was the gas pains. Those were horrible for about 3 days. Nothing helped. I would do it all again tomorrow!! Hugs, Kelly -

how do you spend your time now that your not eating alot?
kellyw74 replied to Beth323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the above poster, I still eat just the volume of food is different. I never sat around and ate all day before! I just ate the wrong food and a little too much when I did eat. I work 7:30-4:00 m-f and when I get off, i come home, make dinner, walk the dog then exercise. That pretty much fills up my days. On the weekend, i shop, do laundry, clean and exercise. I also watch movies and hang with friends. Kelly -
I drink up until I take my first bite of food. I do not drink with meals and I do wait at least 30 minutes after, but mostly 60 minutes. I have taken a drink in the past, like to take a pill and it really doesn't feel very good. It is like there isn't room for both. I also drank milk one time shortly after eating. Man, I was hurtin' for about 10 minutes. So, there really is a reason for waiting. Kelly

Give me A typical day of eating!!!!!
kellyw74 replied to Dud2Stud's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be able to eat more the further out you get. I get full on 2 meatballs. That is CRAZY!! It really blows my mind how little I eat in comparision to what I used to eat. I eat twice as much as I could 5 weeks ago. It gets better all of the time. My plan doesn't call for a calorie, carb or Protein count. I am supposed to eat 3 times a day with out Snacks. I can not do that because when I do because I eat so little, I am only eating about 300 calories a day. I had to adjust my eating to include snacks. I don't track carbs or protein, but do try to eat high protein foods and get enough calories to compensate for my daily exercise. Kelly -
Wow!! What a difference. GOOD JOB!! Kelly
