    Second Time around

Debi, I'm a bandster too and I had my band placed 12/30/2010. Unfortunately I have had problems with it from the start, couldn't tolerate fluids hardly at all, at my early post op at 1wk I had lost 17 lbs, I thought great, lots of weight loss but I felt terrible, I have spent the better portion of the 3 years feeling a fullness at the bottom of my throat and in the fall started having 'stuck' vomiting sessions of just the mucus and saliva, regardless of it being immediately after eating it was like the bottom of my esophagus clamped down. Over the first 18 months I had a steady loss to the max-64lbs, I am 5#8.5" and started at 246, down to a wonderful but not finished 182 then started gaining back to 235 now 232. Mostly because of not tolerating meat, only tolerating sliders and Beans, NO RICE, Potatoes, minimal Pasta high in Fiber. I have seen another bariatric surgeon nearer to my home as my insurance doesn't cover the original surgeon at the highly rated hospital in Santa Barbara Cottage, instead they'll cover a new program that hasn't received the special rating yet. Had my port emptied, with much difficulty, 4-5 sticks before hit the right spot due to my port tilted almost 90 degrees. Then got a skin infection, never had that with all the fills at the original surgeon. So, I am considering lapband removal and may have to wait to let that tissue heal before doing a gastric bypass. I have since met quite a few people who have had the gastric bypass and gained a lot of weight back and I am wary. I am ashamed, angry, frustrated, exhausted.

  5. Wow, I'm surprised anyone can tolerate broccoli. I had the worse STUCK half hour, have vowed to not eat that again! Maybe a little drastic, ya think? Anyway, I had my band placed 12/29/2010 and had a rough time the first week feeling queasy all the time and then my surgeon took out the 3cc's he put in the band the time of surgery and it got better. I have had the WORST constipation, gas misery. I've been using Benefiber since b4 surgery, not helping despite triple the recommended dose. I finally stopped that and am doing better with Kellogs fiber plus cereal once or twice a day, keeping w/64oz fluids/d and exercise definitely helps the gas. I had NO IDEA it would be this much of a struggle! Non-Bariatric surgery people think this is the easy way out ... HARDLY!

    Looking for suggestions/help

Has anyone had a huge change in bloating, flatulence and constipation? I drink 55-70 oz of fluid/day probably 2/3 of it us crystal light and I add 4tbsp of benefiber to each 32oz of crystal light, as well as fiber cereal, salads w/romaine lettuce, etc. It's terrible!

    Stuck Feeling in my throat

I had the same feeling, although I was on full liquid only at that time, at 8 days post op my doctor took out the fluid from the band (3cc) and put me on omeprazole every day for GERD, days later it improved. I had to sip 1 oz of fluids every hour to get my basic fluid needs. (Omeprazole is over the counter) Im surprised your nutritionist or MD hasn't told you to go back to full or clear liquids, check with your doctor ASAP
  8. I had my Lap Band on 12/29, 12 weeks ago. I lost 12 pounds in the 6-8 weeks pre op, and 17 pounds in the first 6 weeks. I had a lot of trouble in the first week with nausea, reflux symptoms, the combination of removing all the Fluid from my band at 8 d post op, and starting daily omeprazole I started feeling better within the next week. Unfortunately the removal of that 3cc of fluid from the band caused me to feel hungry again. So, basically I have been having to work at my dieting as much as before surgery. I just saw my Doctor today for my second fill and I hope that my stomach volume gets in check. I also do not like where my port is, it is right at my waist line, so all my pants hit right where it is. OMG, my biggest problem is severe constipation, bloating and gas, I'm trying EVERYTHING! Sound like a lot of fun, huh?
