Hi! I was banded 3-7-11 and have had a "lump" sensation in my throat for most of the time since then. I also had hiatal hernia repair and am still having acid reflux. I thought that was supposed to stop after surgery? The feeling of something in my throat drives me nuts! I drink water but it doesnt seem to help. Anyone else have this annoying feeling in their throat or reflux problems? What causes it and what should I do about it? Help!! Thanks!

Hey guys and gals! I am 3 wks banded (yea!) and supposed to get my first fill on Monday but I'm super nervous. I have only lost 8 pounds post op but that was mostly the first week and havent done anything one way or another in 2 weeks. My food intake has gone up and occasionally I feel what I guess is restriction, I dont know. I am however very scared of my first fill because I dont want my pouch to stretch and I want to be able to eat real food soon (so far mushies). If I have too much restriction, or too little, how will I know? I have nothing in my 10cc band and my Dr wants to put in 4cc but should I tell him I want to start a little slower because I'm scared of the unkown or just go with it since he knows best? Help?? Thanks!!

Thanks for the tips. I guess that I will just have to experience this as I go and hope for the best. I am one of those control freaks that over analyze everything and research the death out of stuff. I just like to KNOW whats gonna happen but since everyone is different I will just have to wait and see. I have no fluid in my band but I can definately feel it's presence. -
Hey everybody. I was banded 3-7-11 and am ready to recover so I can start concentrating on my weight loss journey. I am setting some goals. I have 65 lbs to lose and am hoping to do so before the end of the year. Am I being unrealistic or is this an obtainable goal. I know that I have a lot of hard work ahead but I'm ready! Any experienced banders have any input?

After reading some posts about fills I'm a little nervous about getting my first. I am still on full liquids and sometime have the lump in my throat. Hmmm. Hope it goes easily. -

Thanks jenn79co for your encouragement -
Nadea - No I was unaware of my HH but definately think it was the worst part. My left shoulder was killing me for days! Finally the pain went away a day or so ago but still smarts a bit when I first get up in the morning. As far as the hernia site it was painful to breathe in for a few days but I'm basically pain free now. My port is easy to feel under my largest incision. I have 65 lbs to lose and am ready for it to be gone forever! If you arent feeling better yet hang in there another day or two and you will be. Good luck to you also!

Hi. I was officially "Banded" as of 3-7-11. I am 8 days old as I like to think of it. Like a newborn, I'm still trying to find my way in this big new world. For those of you considering banding.... just do it! I know it's scary but what do you have to lose but weight! I'm so excited right now to get through my recovery period so that I can really concentrate on my weight loss journey. If you are well on your way with your journey and have any pointers or such for me I welcome your wisdom. I am 34/F/TX. Topped the scale at 251 on my 5'6" frame last summer. Lost down to 220 by myself counting calories and exercising but found that it consumed my every waking moment and I was always hungry. I was constantly obscessing about every calorie and decided that that was not the life I wanted. Yes, I want to be thin and healthy, but not to the point where I was unable to enjoy my day and people enjoy my company due to my obscession with food. I have been interested in the band since it first came out so I knew the basic principles. I am a take action kind of girl so - once I decided on the band, within a week I had done all my research, picked my doctor (Dr. Jayaseelan of Dallas, TX - whom I adore) and made my consult/pre-op appointment. The next week I ate anything I wanted lol then started my liquid diet the next week and now here I am. Unfortunately, I had a hiatal hernia which required fixing during surgery which I can honestly say was the worst part of this whole thing. I am glad to say that today I am feeling MUCH better. My wounds are almost healed and I'm ready for my life to start changing for the better! Bring it on!!

Hey there! I was banded on 3-7-11. I have researched all forms and ultimately the band was for me. I would however strongly caution you against bypass. Everything I've read and talked to my doctor about say that it is for extreme cases only. There is no going back after bypass. If you are unsure about the band, I would recommend that you research the sleeve. It is middle ground. Doesnt have the absorption problems like bypass but is a little more drastic than the band. I only had about 70 pounds to lose so I was more comfortable with the band myself. Do the research online before you let your doctor push you into a procedure you're not comfortable with. Best of luck to you!

Hi Jennifer! Congrats on your band. I was banded 3-7-11 so I'm right there with ya. I hope your first few days were better than mine. I had a hiatal hernia repair also which was the hardest part and had the most horrific left shoulder pain for days. However, I am feeling TONS better as of yesterday and am really starting to get excited. I was banded in Dallas which is several hours away from my hometown. There isn't a local support group in the area that I can participate in so I'm hoping that this site with help with questions and such. Best of luck to you!
