2 days until surgery!!!
iegal replied to bxmama2011's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, nothing like eating a elephant whole. Moving and surgery...you are a superwoman. Sipping is critical to keep you hydrated. I recommend room tempature drinks, I drink clear Protein from GNC and G2 gatorade (sugarless). You will need to rest often, walk often and sip every 15 minutes. Small sips...no gulps. Congrats on upcoming surgery. I am sending you a big hug for Monday. Please keep us updated on how you are doing. -
What exactly shrinks the liver???
iegal replied to Sheenan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are cutting out carbs, fats and sugars which will all help shrink the liver. You need your protien, after surgery you will thank me for this advice. Protein is needed to help keep your hair, keep your strength and keep your muscles. Time to put your chin up and suck down those protien shakes. They are for your own good. Congrats on your upcoming surgery! -

Fast food was my habit because I travel often...and my source of food on the road. I love to cook too, still do. Yes, I have teared up in front of a buffet, missing that never ending plate...emotionally of course. We are all in the road together. Glad i could help you in your search.

Hi Vero; Before VSG: food was a reward for good behavior, a solice for sad times, a filler when I was bored, my friend when I was lonely and so on. I lived my life around food. my meals were planned prior to any other functions. Would drive all over SoCal in search of food if it was a restaraunt I enjoyed.. I would eat for what felt like a never satisfied stomach or mind. Heard the "feed me" voice all the time. Yeah, I could diet for a while and lose weight (about 25 lbs in 3 months) but then...I always went back to eating and gained it all back. Post op: First several months until I hit goal, my life still revolved around food. But change was I was in control. I still planned to the smallest detail but it was more about getting in Protein and Water to meat goals. No longer heard scream of "feed me" all the time. These months were difficult at times because of different eating patterns and learning new better habits. My tastebuds were different those months in Ketosis. Everything was too sweet, too thick, heavy in my stomach. Food repulsed me at times. My relationship with food changed. Now at goal: I still get "head hungry" and now am atune to dips in blood sugar when I forget to eat. Eating is now according to a clock. "Oh - it is 1PM, I should eat lunch." Yeah, I still enjoy food, the taste of food but am very limited on volume. I listen to my full signal, take one more bite of the tastiest thing on my plate...because it is good and then push away the plate, fully satisfied. Samples of food are good enough. Yes, I still battle eating carbs. Love potatoes in almost any format. But I eat these for emotional needs. Now eating is a mind game. Yes, I still care about food, tastes and textures. Today I am almost "normal" minus the amount I can eat. I have not yet had a soft drink nor eaten at In N Out burger since last late August. Why open a door when I know I should not eat these? Plus I am scared that I will become addicted to consuming these foods again. VSG is only a restrictive surgery. You can drink all your calories and never lose weight. It takes work to lose weight with VSG. Results are incredible, but I worked to hit goal. Hope this helps you!

Get another barriatric surgeon consult while in the hospital, if you have insurance. Before you leave hospital get a copy of all your records of the last several stays. If this is the hospital you had surgery in, they will also have records you can get of that. No one deserves to be treated with distain. No one. It is not a wonder why you are frustrated or hurting.

Your answers are going to vary depending upon surgeon and level of experience and techniques used. I had VSG as outpatient surgery. Went in the AM home by afternoon. No catheder, no hospital stay (too high a risk of infection and you off all people know this), I would do this again tomorrow, I was driving by the next week. I think I drove on Tuesday (surgery on Friday) but was weak and could not sit up without leaning on another chair. By the following week I was driving by myself without any issues. Like last post, I did not need pain meds except to sleep one or two nights since my sleep patterns were disrupted. I slept a lot those first couple of weeks when ever I could. Walk, sip, rest. Do not assume you will be "normal" after one week.

Oh Lord, Surgery Date has Changed Again!
iegal replied to virtygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so glad that new dates work for you. Just tell you boss that date change was not requested by you but done to fit surgeons schedule change. Confident all will work out just as it is supposed to go. YAY on a closer date. -
9-22-11 A new begining
iegal replied to Shoppingbeemom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Glad you are so close to a new you and a new beginning. That is so close to my 1 year anniversary. Wish I could tell you here in short form what a wonderful journey with amazing results I have been on. Not always easy, fun or without roadblocks yet I pray I will never wake up from this dream of a life. I had a good life before, now it is beyond my little girl fantasies. Congrats on a date again. Keep us posted on your progress. -
Hoping today went well. Welcome to the losers bench.

Have you discussed with your primary doctor? Are you at more than a 35 BMI currently? If yes, then you only have to qualify for one of the other "morbesity" conditions. Hang in there. I am rooting for good news. Six months are never a waste of time, use them.

D day is Monday July 18th
iegal replied to Tripletsmomma's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You mean V Day, right? Victory for you. Are you really a mom of triplets? Your code name should be wonderwoman. Anyway - good luck on Monday! Let us know how you are recoverying. -
I am really excited for you too. Wow, tomorrow is your first day of a new you. Yay Jen!! A few tips. Remember to go to General Sleeve Surgery Discussion forum here (scroll down a little) and in there is the "Offical what you will need for surgery" thread. Good stuff. Post Op what helped me...a heating pad. G2 gatorade since I was not up to gagging down thick Protein shakes that first week. Recovery is more about keeping hydrated than worrying about your protein level. Drinking room tempature drinks, cold bothered my stomach. A heating pad to put on my stomach. Decaf peppermind tea, slightly warmed. I sat in a recliner for first week since I am a natural stomach sleeper and could not do that. Lipton chicken noodle soup strained for broth only...diluted. PS - I was outpatient for this surgery, so I came home same day. No pain just felt lethargic that first week. Again, thrilled for your new start. I love my sleeve.

Listen to those posters before me. If your surgeon does not take you seriously, find another barriatric doctor to do your follow up. You might have a stricture which is why you can not tolerate foods. Take heed, you are not having a normal recovery. Now is the time to take charge of your health

Love the smile on the after surgery picture. But, do you have the weights mixed up? You don't weight MORE after surgery, do you?
-
Hi; If you don't mind me asking...which insurance do you have? Kaiser?
-
Hi Miss Patrice; Saturday - August 8th. Location undertermined yet but probably Riverside or Chino area. Will keep you in the loop.

I always feel cold now at goal weight. Unless I am sweating. Carry a sweatshirt around almost everywhere I go...just in case. If you were cold a lot before you will be colder afterwards.

Well, you see what had happened was...
iegal replied to carolina girl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Dear SC; Ah - besides having a Paula mother - I could be your sister. Congrats on making a step toward a new you. The sleeve works! -
Some people are just UNBELIEVABLE
iegal replied to former_vbg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Um, hard to believe her because if your surgeon uses a 30 bougie then how could she eat the whole thing? Not possible. We all know it is not. Sounds like a fish tale. -
Fantastic results. Congratulations - you look skinny and happy!

I went to the NEW Program in Newport Beach with Dr. Quebbemann. Self pay. 18K Would I use them again, yes.

Sleeved yesterday and just got home
iegal replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you are having such a tough time. Remember to sip, rest and walk. Those first couple of days can be ugly. Chin up and no regrets, okay? -
Yes, you are shrinking. The simply lovely shrinking lady. WOW - work that sleeve!

Don't want to gain weight & then be denied!
iegal replied to longer-life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, I was a self payer. You are in the questionable zone. Go into see your primary doc and see what/he or she says about you having a couple of comorbitities. Go to a free weight loss seminar if your surgeon of choice has one. Work with the financial office and see what they say. Trust me, your surgeon wants to perform surgery to help you. Um, wear a lot of clothes too. The initial weigh in is your starting weight. Also, they ask your height. Slouch when they measure you. Good luck.
