Am I Eating Too Much? Sleeved Aug 14Th.
iegal replied to Lucabelle1313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Much lower than I expected. Usually refried Beans have a much high carb/salt count. Good for you! Now I will go the other way. You are getting too few grams of carbs and too few grams of Protein. You should be at 60 gm of protein daily. Carbs try to keep below 30 a day, which you are doing. If not, your energy will very low. Do you have a GNC nearby? If yes, go grab a Isopure 40gm Protein shake for about $4 each. The least objectionable taste to me was apple = think jolly green rancher. Now, these were not great tasting and I had to drink bottle over the day to choke it down. But this allowed me to meet my protein count. Wishing you the best! -
Surgery And Recovery Alone
iegal replied to chad2rad's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chad; Thank you for being so open and sharing the challenges you face. Whether or not your spouse is around, take good care of yourself, okay? While you might not have the emotional support from someone you love, remember you have cheering section on this board. I did VSG surgery as an outpatient surgery with no overnight hospital stay. Prior to surgery I had all my prescriptions filled. liquid pain meds, which I only took once to sleep. Next was a PPI which really helped out my non stop gurgling stomach. I slept a lot those first three days. Back to work within a week which involved a plane ride across country. Confident you can do this with minimal support but with your experience you know you do need some help. Someone should be with you or checking in on you every few hours those first couple of days. You will need someone to drive you home. So, get prepared and wrap yourself in the comfort that you are doing all you can to move forward. -
Am I Eating Too Much? Sleeved Aug 14Th.
iegal replied to Lucabelle1313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried clear Protein? I was unable to choke down thick Protein shakes too. Just an idea because to me it sounds like a lot of salt and carbs in your diet. Congrats on being sleeved! -
Your taste buds do change. Things I loved pre-sleeve I hated afterwards. Don't follow me because in the name of being prepared, I spent hundreds of dollars on Proteins for after surgery. Most went in the trash cause they were too thick or sickeningly sweet for me. Congrats on your upcoming surgery next year. Good for you getting prepared!

There is an entire thread dedicated to pregnancy after VSG that you might want to review. Hopefully you can get your answers there. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/46-pregnancy-with-gastric-sleeve-surgery-vsg/

I hate divorce. You need to decide what is best for you and your children. What are the ramifications of staying? What about leaving? How will you support yourself & children? Will you have to pay him spousal support? Who will take care of the kids when husband is gone? Can you family help you out after divorce or will you being doing this totally solo? Crazy he does not want to work...was he always this way before you married him? How does he expect you and the kids to live without his support? To me it sounds like he is a little boy in a man's body. Work is just a job to support my lifestyle and pay the bills. Tell your husband to grow up or get out. As for being physically damaged... HA HA, you are emotionally damaged because his needs come before you and your children needs. Ask him: Who is responsible for making sure our family has a roof over their head, food on the table, basics like electricity, gas, Water? Who is an loving parent/partner and sees to his family's needs. He needs to realize that he choose to have financial responsibilities. Additional he has physical & emotional responsibilities where chosen when he got married and then fathered three children. Each act over the years made additional responsibilities. If he wants to be Peter Pan and never grow up, then he should move back into his parents basement and let them support him. Better to be single (if you can afford it) than support a bum. That really is what he is honey. Sorry.

Healing Stomach = No Appetite
iegal replied to seelessofme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, eating was a chore at first. Had to force myself to eat and drink. If you don't force yourself, you will go into starvation mode and then...stall. Yikes. So be aware of what you MUST do and take care of your body. Hugs, things will get easier, promise. -
Tomorrow Tomorrow I Love Ya Tomorrow!

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! Wishing you a speedy recovery...and an early welcome to the losers bench. -
Hate to break the news...but if you get this done out of country....you can't deduct. I can't deduct interest paid on mortgage interest paid outside US. I can't deduct sales tax paid outside of US. I can't deduct medical procedures done outside of US. Go ahead, play with the IRS. See who wins. Good news is the benefits outweigh any tax deduction.

Of course I thought I would fail.. How many previous diets did I fail? ALL OF THEM. The difference with this "diet" is my rocking little "sleevie wonder" which restricts my old gorging habits. I was scared even when watching the pounds melt away. Even at two years out I pinch myself thinking, wow the weight is still off. Love my sleeve and have no regrets...except I should done this sooner.

Stretching The Sleeve By Drinking Through A Straw?
iegal replied to Thinner Peace's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
HOGWASH - you are not going to stretch your sleeve by drinking through a straw. Next: This is not an attack but a correction of Bigsleeve56 statement. In post #16 - he challenged those to come back in a few years and let him know how it was going. Well, here I am. TWO YEARS OUT. I can eat about a cup depending on food type. Soft foods I can eat more and same with slider foods (chips, candy, things that SLIDE through the stomach) or if I drink with my meals (bad me). If I eat dense food I can eat a little over a half a cup. Yet no matter what I still FEEL RESTRICTION. Even when I make bad choices I still FEEL RESTRICTION after two years being sleeved. Blgsleeve56 is seriously misinformed. Next - he misread statements. Go above to search icon in top right corner and search "re-sleeved" to see post. Here is what poster admits....that she was not sleeve properly the first time since not enough of her stomach was removed. I quote re-sleever here: my first surgeon is not known on this board, as i am not from the usa, canada , Mexico or europe i am from the middle east. as per what dr aceves told me, yes my first surgeon did not remove enough of my stomach to keep restriction for a long time, and also my sleeve was dilated with time. Well, if her surgeon did not remove enough of her stomach like is standard practice with most local surgeons in North America then, HEY - you might have to be resleeved. Ach, hopefully this puts this issue to bed. Good luck. Two years out and I still have no regrets. I love my sleeve. PS - I am still in normal weight range but about 7 lbs above my lowest weight, due to my love affair with candy & carbs above Protein. -
So glad you have supportive family and friends. Many of us are not as fortunate. I know this will help out out in your journey to lose this weight forever. Congrats on upcoming surgery date!

Photo Update 1 Month Post Op!
iegal replied to jessfharris's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep up the great work! So glad nothing is side tracking you in reaching your goal. Hun, I would probably be face first in a bowl of ice cream to soothe my hurting soul if I were in your shoes. You are amazing! -
There is a whole group of us that will be your buddy and mentors in SoCal. Go to "Groups" above and look for SoCal VSG support group. We get together face to face every other month too. Next meeting is in November. Feel free to contact me directly if you have any specific questions. Happy to be a buddy.

Ladies Only Question...
iegal replied to ThinnerTiff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Louise above me said it all. My wit will pale in comparison. Think marbles at the end of tube socks. Oh well, and my DH could care less. Good news is now I have an actual waist and collar bones I can show off. -
Hey = we are sleeve sisters. I was sleeve on 9/17 too, only two years ago. Call your doctor on Monday. Next, get on google and do a search for VSG diet plans (sometimes you have to spell out) You can get a lot of different opinions out there of what other docs think you should be taking in. To break it down: First couple of weeks is more about being hydrated than being worried about Protein but that doesn't mean you should ignore protein. Try different kinds of protein, clear worked for me from Isopure. Taste not so great but I could drink an entire bottle in a day with 40 gm of protein. Much better than those thick Protein shakes that came right back up. Ask your doc what you should be doing to ensure proper nutrition including supplements. Good luck and hang in there. Things will be better. Feel free to contact me directly...sister.

Half Way There! 48 Down 48 To Go
iegal replied to sleeveInSD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
A big congrats. But don't beat yourself up for being a "slow" loser & stop comparing yourself to others. You are losing...and that weight in permanently gone. When was the last time you lost almost 50 pounds in 5 months? Hugs and keep on rocking your sleeve! -
First week I could not choke down pills. After that I forced them down because I didn't want another surgery. Have you used a pill cutter? Crushed pills into applesauce? Over 33% of VSG patients eventually need gallbladder out. Happy I took them. Two years out and still have my gallbladder. Best wishes & congrats on being sleeved!

Drinking Hurts! 5 Days Post-Op
iegal replied to amandam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree with previous poster about drinking tepid Water or decaf tea. This really helped me out those first few weeks. Are you on a PPI to help reduce stomach acid? If not you might want to ask surgeon for a prescription. Congrats on being sleeved. Hang in there, things will get better slowly. -
Any Socal Kaiser Options Patients?
iegal replied to biggmatt714's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi; I will sent you both invites to join the SoCal Sleever support group. I would say over 50% of our members are from Kaiser. Lady who gets us together every other month for a support meeting had her surgery done over 2 years ago at Kaiser. She is regularly seen at graduations of options. Wishing you the best and hope to meet you face to face in November. -
Let Me Try That Again. Do People Really Eat Baby Food During The Soft Phase
iegal replied to Joy1961's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Heck NO! Why eat babyfood? Yuck. Did your surgeon suggest this? I haven't ever heard of people doing this. Can you send me your surgeon's diet plan that lists baby food as an option? A hobby of mine is collecting various surgeons PostOp diet plans. Everyone is different but I have yet to hear of one suggesting babyfood. Congrats on your upcoming surgery. -
Every surgeon is different, so you need to ask your surgeon how many and why. The single incision surgery that minky_winks is talking about is VSG surgery done with a tool called "the spider" which is a single point entry for VSG surgery. You can watch this surgery on this link. PS - the surgeon shown is my surgeon who performed the first spider surgery in US Congrats on your upcoming surgery.
