    When The Dream Ends...

People. This is not about political parties. Don't go there. ARGH Bubbles; Take a deep breath. Yes, you might gain weight while you are waiting for a solution. Your dreams might be delayed but they are not dead. So difficult when your timeline is shot and no firm date or answers are available. If it helps your heart, take a break from this site. But do not lose the dream or hope. You never know how things may look in a year or so. Keep the goal in mind. A solution will appear, options will present themselves but don't shut the door. A big hug for you.
  2. Heath; Glad you are reaching out to post. Congrats on being sleeved today...and welcome to the losers bench. Make sure to jump in and put in your comments. We all learn from each other, share with each other and cheer each other onto success. Remember to sip often, walk often and nap when you can. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Week 3 Of My Post Op

Could be a little of both. Are you on a PPI (acid reducer?) This will help. Also, measure everything you eat (drink) So for everything that comes up, eat or drink more slowly. I had same problem using old gulping habits. Was unable to tolerate mushies for 5 weeks. Have you tried a bite or two of applesauce? That was my first food. Next was soft frozen yogurt. Have you considered that you might have a lactose intolerance? I was intolerant for 4 months. Take it slow and give your self time to heal. Also, looking up VSG diets online might give you ideas of what to soft foods try. I had a decaf skinny vanilla latte (ask for a protein shot & get soy milk if you are intolerant to milk) At least you will get in 15+ gm of protein. Hugs, things will get better, I promise.

    Pain Medication Question

I just had Tylenol 3 in liquid form which I only took once on day 3...and that was to sleep. Every surgeon is different and will decide how long you need to stay. Talk to your surgeon to see what he/she normally prescribes. As you know we all have different pain tolerances. Sad to admit I am a wimp. To me, this was uncomfortable and way less pain than my c-section. Of course I had VSG as outpatient surgery, had no pain pump, no leak test, no cathedar, no drain and was in my own bed that night. Nurses not waking me up at every hour helped too. Low risk patient and yes, I was aware VSG was outpatient prior to surgery. Good luck on your upcoming appointments...and surgery. Ask a lot of questions of surgeon.

    90 Lbs Down

Amazing. Well, my DH did not always think I looked great during the losing phase either. But I do have to say...are you following your surgeon's diet plan. You are consuming way to little calories at this point and this will make you look (and feel) sickly. Sounds like your body could be in starvation mode with such few calories. Those who are not sleeved will not understand this...but EAT to live healthy. We all had VSG to lose weight but more importantly to be healthy. So, eat to survive no matter if you do or don't feel like it. My hair (even with high protien & Biotin) fell out too for about three months. Stopped and then started growing back. Today I probably have thicker hair than before. Your husband is only concerned. He may be frightened of who you are becoming. Really sit down and talk to him to see what his real concerns are and help him out. You are morphing into a new lady. Congrats!

    Not Sure Whats Wrong

Stop the hatred of yourself. You are not unwanted/unloved because of your size. Whether you get VSG or not you are a human capable of many good things just as you are right now. Changing your size will not change how you see yourself but it does change how others view you. Okay to have a pity party today. But tomorrow you will pick yourself up and remember you are trying to make changes to your life. Give yourself time and allow the process to work. Hugs - we are here for you. PS - there will be minor setbacks in the pre-op process & in the weight loss process after surgery. Now is the time to accept no one is perfect...even with VSG.

    Hospital Time?

Every surgeon is different and has different methods for VSG. I was outpatient, no overnight in the hospital. No leak test, no morphine drip, no cathedar, no drain, and no nurses waking me up at night. Took the pain meds once on day three and that was only to sleep. This is no longer uncommon for VSG. More and more US surgeons are progressing towards this practice. Personally for me it worked since I was not a high risk patient. Glad to sleep in my own bed that night. So - really your surgeon/insurance decides based on their practice. Good question to ask on your next visit. Congrats on your upcoming surgery
  8. That is just around the corner. Wow, congratulations!
  9. I can't imagine the turmoil. Prayers are going up for everything to work out in your favor.

    Prayers

Prayers for an uncomplicated surgery and a quick recovery. Hugs - welcome to the losers bench.
  12. Glad to hear you are fine, don't worry about what could be. Just be vigilant. Your surgeon should have had to sign off on a list of possible complications prior to surgery and given you a copy...at least if you are in US. Here is what I found on internet. Possible Complications The mortality rate within the first 30 days after surgery is very low, about 0.5 percent, which is comparable to the gastric bypass. Short-term complications following a vertical sleeve gastrectomy also are similar to those of the gastric bypass and include blood clots, leakage along the suture lines, and wound infection. Long-term complications can include stricture, GERD, ulcers, gallstones, staple line disruption, weight re-gain, and nutritional deficiencies.

    Big Island Hawaii

If you are serious about going, I know someone who gives live walking tours of the volcano at night against the advice of the Natl Park Svc. It was life changer for me to be within a few feet of flowing lava into the ocean. Seriously beautiful and beyond words. I have been to the Big Island over 5 times. Have been to all of the other Islands and I keep returning to Big Island. Understand the draw of other islands but I want old Hawaii, not commercial HI. Big Island is my favorite but you better love lava rock and not have asthma due to the Vog. Recommend majority of time on Kona side where you can drive around. Then spend at least two days in Hilo where you can visit Volcano Natl Park. Big Island is much slower paced than all the other islands minus Kauai. Oahu is nice if you like busy night life. Maui is nice, Lahaina is like Laguna Beach in CA which is artsy but small. Prettiest island with beaches is Kauai. Molakai and Lanai are just small and good for a day trip off Maui.
  14. TaraLynnRN59...I love your response. Can't say it any better. My DH saw me try and try and try and try only to fail. I am not a loser or a quitter. Just unable to conquer on my own without a assistance. Thank goodness he didn't feel this way when I gave birth to an 11 lb baby, (no I was not diabetic either) that I could do this on my own. Would have died without medical assistance. He got it, I needed medical help to lose the weight. I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

    Slider Food

Soft foods that "slide" through. Ice cream, liquids, potato chips (that are masticated into nothing before swallowing), candy...now that I am post op by a lot Solid Proteins like chicken, steak, beef and more offer me a quicker feeling of full.

    Pre Op Diet - Eeek

Hun, only you...and I mean only you can choose how to approach this diet. Either you want to go all the way, or you want to add in your own way of doing things. Will agree, the preop diet is horrid torture. But remember this is for your own benefit. Shrinks the liver allowing easier access for the surgeon. Also it preps you for that post-op diet right after surgery. Wishing you the best to be your best!

    Gallstones?

I had gallstones before surgery. My surgeon said same thing as Ashlee, no VSG & gallbladder removed at same time. Still have my gallbladder without any problems thus far. Hear about 33% of WLS patients eventually have gallbladders out. I am hoping for the best. Stay vigilant.

    Omg! Surgery In Morning!

Welcome to the losers bench Tiffinie...a day early
  19. Since you are on soft foods, those soft foods are still sliding right on through. I wasn't able to feel restriction until I was eating full protein...like chicken chunks, so I measured everything I ate. Of course I could only eat a few bites over a long period. Be confident that you are sleeved. You are healing still and things will change as you heal. This is a learning phase. Adjust and learn to be flexible. Hugs...I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

    Just Starting Out...

Sounds like you are moving right along. Know others will be envious of how quickly you move along. Looking forward to reading upcoming posts on your progress. Congrats!
  22. Ah, I am so sorry your surgery has been delayed. But I know it is for a good reason. At least you are not denied...only delayed. Chin up. A new you is around the corner.

    Silver Linings....

Hi Cludgie; We are close to sleeve sisters so I am very interested in your prognosis. Please provide update and hope you are doing well. Congrats on your new stat...but take care of yourself!
  24. Everyday is a good day since I move without huffing a puffing. So happy that you can "see" your accomplishments and know how to Celebrate. Yeah Cowgirl Jane!
  25. Hi Suzanne; Know you are a busy lady but several of us on this board are still waiting for you back up your claims or I am requesting you to retract your statements about Dr. Aceves in this and other posts. If you are unable to verify independently then take back what you have written. Respectfully I ask that you please refrain from future posts until you have provided backup proof to your claims. I have stayed silent long enough on posts with false claims which in reality are marketing ads for Dr. Aceves. J&J does create staples as you stated but nothing on web site about Aceves, rather another surgeon. In another post you offended a VST user suggesting her surgeon was subpar since he was less cost than Aceves, implying her surgeon was using non J&J staples. I question why J&J would sponsor him to have other surgeons watch him? Still unable to find Aceves name in Newsweek or a copy showing him on cover. One post by another VST poster states this article was in Nov 2011. Hmmm. When I search online I see his picture (via a thumbnail only ) shwoing him on the Cover of Newsweek but it you look closely it is the same picture of him on his website...just imposed over Newsweek. When you open link, nothing. Send me a link with him on cover of Newsweek as Aceves displays...which I believe is just advertising. Hmmmm. Newsweek lists nothing about him directly that I can find with a simple Google/Bing search. Maybe my search skills need upgrading. Lastly - his book that is advertised on this site is a self published book. Amazon does not even carry it. Hey, I could write a book on VSG but that does not elevate my credentials. What does this say if no publisher reviewed content or offered to back it? Please provide at least three independent sources backing up claim of "world top surgeon" from Newsweek directly, J&J using him as teaching doctor (a link on J&J website would be nice) & his book being a book a non-independent book (a link to Amazon or B&N would suffice). Willing to be a believer of your opinions/claims if you can provide links outside of Aceves website. Your claims are only opinions without legitimate documentation. Additionally they are misleading and inaccurate. Worse you are providing a false sense of security to those seeking a WLS. Thanks! Looking forward to reading information soon.
