Been a rough week or two or three

Isn't it funny how we feel "fat" when we know we have not been good? Even though, most times, we are probably closer or at the same weight. Sub-conscious and "old image" can truly do a "number" on us!!

    new addiction anyone?

Jane_J, you threw me for a minute! I thought, "NO WAY, did she have VSG at 140!!!!" lol I'm assuming you "updated" your ticker to a more current one! ha!

    Calories, Exercise, and Metabolism (long)

You know, the more we discuss this, the more I am realizing there's more unknown than known. If we do all this to get healthy but we can't BE healthy (food and calorie levels) well, hmm. I know my BMR is messed up too. Years of yoyo and then sleeve, at 3 years out, I love the initial weight loss and have mostly maintained but I think my age ( 59) and the above mentioned has made it really difficult to just "be normal" and not gain. Have to be very, very careful of carbs, calories, never mind losing what I've regained (about 15 lbs). I wouldn't trade a thing and would do it again but know this will be a forever battle, too. ????

    Potassium

I've had the same issue before. At one point, Dr wanted to hospitalize me for IV infusion but talked my way out. Had to use the liquid potassium (yuck!!!) to get it back up since couldn't get down the horse pills they prescribed first. It's can be extremely serious as your heart can go into cardiac arrest! Eat bananas if you can and take potassim

    Pain related to Surgery

I guess I was lucky. I had almost NO pain. Wry weak, very tired etc but never used pain meds at all. AND I have low pain threshold also. . Good luck!
  6. Success 2013, what does this mean? 5. Do a carb refeed. (Every 4 or 5 days) 4 sets x 15 sets per body part to deplete glycogen stores. Then increase carbs with fast burning carbs gonna start with 100 grams.
  7. I'm truly interested in the carb "refeed" thingy. I'm freaked totally out about carbs because all the surgeon, nut, etc tell you is no/low carb. I went on a carb binge for a few months and regained about 13 lbs. Now low carbing and NOT losing much so interested in HOW I should and WHAT i should do to "reset" or something to that effect. Because low carb is not producing much weight loss and I'm sure a lot is the amount of sodium that I am imbibing through processed foods (meats etc) Anybody else out there have info on how to really do it right?
  8. what exactly did you do?

    Stomach stretching!?!?

It's not stretched. The swelling is/has gone down and you SHOULD be able to eat more. If you are hungry all the time, it could be "silent" acid reflux. Do you take anything for stomach acid? Lots of people have said that they are much hungrier without their medication. Even an OTC cheap one works. Also, if you are eating a lot more "slider" foods - you CAN and WILL eat a LOT more and more often! Steer clear of those! Try an exercise - eat part of a chicken breast first, protein only, and then veggies - no drinking and see how "full" you get and how quickly. I think you will find you still have lots of restriction. It may just be that you need to eat several times a day, with smaller amounts and add an acid reducer to your regimen. Good luck!

    new addiction anyone?

i'm not addicted. Today i am HUNGRY!!! No matter what I stuff down my throat, it doesnt make me LESS hungry. Now granted, this is coming off of a "sugar" high since I overindulged over the weekend on kettle corn, donuts, etc (Local community fair/event!) Seriously!!! Protein in, lots of it, and it's not helping! Yep, you say, "you did that to yourself!" And yep, I did, but BOY, am I ravenously hungry. Have done well and refrained from junk today NSV to me!

    Can't stop losing

Trust me! I began eating from the O Group mid year two. You DON'T want to do that! Lol. It led to the S group, sugar, sugar and sugar. Now I've regained some weight and worked hard to low carb it for a while. Fell off the wagon this weekend for some reasons but will be back on track tomorrow. I WISH I was one of those "can't stop losing" people. Lol

    Calories, Exercise, and Metabolism (long)

If you can tolerate cucumbers, I buy the small gormet cukes and the 100 cal pkgs of Wholly Guacamole ( I actually like the Walmart brand better Marketside) slice the cukes very think and use like chips for the guac. It's awesome!
  15. Okay, what did we used to call those "non pounds loss" happy things that happened to us? Was it NSV(non sleeve victory)? can't remember, but I've had SEVERAL today! We had a focus group meeting in my office of several Financial Advisors from around the state that I have worked with over the past many years but whom many have not seen me in a couple/several years. I had not one, not two but at least three of them single me out over the course of the 4 hour meeting and tell me how "wonderful" I looked and how much had I lost and how long, etc? FIRST, it made me realize - You know what? I HAVE accomplished a lot and I AM almost three years out! When I told one who asked when did you lose it, "Three years!" And it HIT ME! It's been three years!!! THREE YEARS!!! That made me feel really good! Just to have the affirmation again of a "job well done" and a huge accomplishment meant a great deal to me today. Not bragging, simply stating that perhaps we need to "lighten up" on ourselves some and see what others see. A real change in who we are and what we have accomplished. It surely opened my eyes today. And then... I went and ate 3, YES THREE, donuts. Oh well, its back to low carb.. )) We've got this, Pals!!!!!!

    Resetting the system

I too am also at 3 yr surgiversary. I have gained about 13 lbs over the past year/year and a half. I've tried "reset" - I'm not sure it exists. Really. You can get the sugar/carb thing under control by "reset" and back to a normal eating pattern but as to the old "lose, lose, lose" matra I had and quickly! It ain't there. (in southern slang!) Lol Simply put, from what I've researched, we need to eat less calories than a person who hasn't lost over 10% of their total body weight and didn't ever really yo yo diet (strictly speaking - normal) to MAINTAIN at the same weight as they do. Example, 1650 calories for me it shows with some exercise should allow me to maintain but it doesnt. Reality is more like 1300 or so. So we are going to have to get our heads wrapped around the fact that it is a LIFETIME GOAL and not a quick fix! As we were told, it's a TOOL. And I've discovered that for myself! lol Good luck! You are back on track and that's what counts.

    3rd surgiversary approaching

I feel ALL of your pain! I think we tend to be extra hard on ourselves simply from the fact that we DID have WLS. My daughter, who has never been overweight, said, "Geez, Mom, give yourself a break and enjoy life! You look great! Lighten up!" I think maybe as M2G and I have said before the metabolically altered body (and it IS altered) makes it extremely difficult for the long haul if we ever allow ourselves to regain because truthfully, we DO have to eat less calories than others to simply maintain where we are, much less lose. I LIKE THAT UK chart! But, um, I would be allowed up to 196 at my height and age! lol That ISN'T even entering into my subconcsious! ha!

Satiety foods for post goal hunger?

Okay, now. I'm trying to be really good (NOW) and drop the regain pounds (about 13). Low carb, low carb, low carb and protein protein protein but it doesn't seem to really want to go away again! lol If I deviate at all from low carb, I immediately put lbs back on. Also, I'd like to say that protein staves off my hunger but I don't think in reality it does. I can eat a boiled egg, cheese, etc and STILL want to eat. Doing much better, though, about WHAT I am allowing in my mouth.
  20. Globetrotter, I am a testimony to low carb diet being detrimental I believe. At 3 years out been trying to lost some regain with low carb. Religiously for about two months. Lost about 6-7 lbs. last 3 days got really tired of it and ate normal including so sweets. But not over indulged. Guess what? First day up 2 lbs. next day up two more. Very disheartening to say the least. Yes I'm sure some fluid but really, REALLY??? Not sure what to do at this point to do food wise to be able to lose and do it for long haul. Been in a good place mentally to start back but boy, evidently now my body is really addicted to sugar and low carb gets really really really tiresome.
  21. Oh, Girls, I got very concerned after reading a thread on another website. The person sounded just like us and was 4 years out telling she had regained 60 pounds!!!! Then others started talking about weight gain too 50+ lbs. then I realized it was a RNY forum. but.... Yikes!
  22. I agree with M2G, Coops, the food will most likely take care of itself at some point later. When you don't feel well nothing really tastes good anyway. So glad you are on the way "up!" I feel sure 150 is in your near future. ???? Now as for me! Well... Been eating well. Trying to watch a total calorie count somewhat as well as carbs. Sometimes the two don't work well together. Lol But have managed to keep what I've lost again off but it seems any little thing affects the scale. Sigh. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Here's to all of the gang!!!!
  23. Here's an excellent article for us all from Obesity Help newsletter. Just what we have been talking about. We're okay! We CAN do this!!! http://www.obesityhelp.com/articles/bariatric-regain/
