I was driving home yesterday from a trip and started thinking about this. For those "vets" out there - how many of you battled "hunger" from the start and how did you control/portion what you ate? I know I've read from many that they experienced hunger all along (I DID NOT but NOW do experience strange hunger where I can seemingly never be full/satisfied?) So was it a lot like dieting along with VSG since you still WANTED to eat? Just thinking through what all of the sudden has made my body shift to this new "phase." 3 years out in June - I eat well for a month or two and then drop the ball and eat junk but even when eating "clean" I am hungry ALL THE TIME! Protein does not in the least slow down the seemingly "bottomless pit" feeling. I really, really, really (did I say really?) want to get BACK to my lowest goal weight of 150 and even down 5 lbs or so from there but I sabotage myself constantly. For those of you familiar as Paul said, "... for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I." I am very frustrated and sad. I truly didn't want to be CONSTANTLY thinking about food, worrying about food, snacking on food at this point. I STILL can eat only small amounts of PURE protein/food and that might hold me for a couple hours so is it JUST matter of willpower or what now? Anybody else out there in this situation? Help!!!!

That is truly awesome, Laura! See, all that sweating and active lifestyle paid off! As for the PB2, I can tell that it would become an addiction but at least somewhat healthy. I bought fresh apples and some plain ricecakes to eat it with for a change of pace from other Snacks but I will truly have to guard myself. Oh, and on another note, ANOTHER POUND GONE THIS MORNING! That's 15! I'm trul impressed. I'll admit that by last Sunday I was experiencing more hunger than I had been previous weeks and Monday was hard to eat with in MY normal. Weighed Tuesday morning, start of my first fast day and up 3! But that is my pattern. That's why I truly understand now why we should only be weighing ourselves weekly. There is so much fluctuation in NORMAL body weight that we tend to stress out, overthink it, and get depressed if we see the scale move the OTHER direction even though we are actively eating healthy food. What happens for me is - I am usually at my present weight or up a couple by the end of my FOUR normal days in a row. Then by last fast day I am back down a pound or so from my ORIGINAL low of the week before so if I weighed each WEEK at the end, I would be a much happier camper but it does help me maintain during the longer normal days. Anway, I think Fiddleman said it correctly. It takes your body a while to build momentum when you change your diet besides the initial Fluid weight loss of any diet. I really understand that this can be and will be long term for me. Easily. And once back down to below my original goal by a few pounds, I will try the 6:1 for maintenance and see if I can hold it with that; otherwise, I'll stay with 5:2 Happy Wednesday to all!

I'm really interested in the 7 year part. Did you have the sleeve 7 years ago? -
OH MY WORD! I got my PB2 in today. I had one tablespoon of chocolate PB to see if I "liked it". WRONG. I LOVED it. This is not good. And today is the 2 in the 5 day! Wow! It's really good.

Are you using the iPhone VST app? Look under "pre op and post op diets". The 5:2 diet
-
OMG, yes!! You need to strictly adhere to your surgeons plan. We are all vets 2 or more years out trying to get to or keep or get back to goal! Good luck on your journey! Welcome to the club!

FastDiet is 5:2. Five "normal" days. 2 Fast days withal 500 calories. Book says 25% of TTEE bit sleevers generally don't eat the 2000 they base the 500 on. We are all following the 500 women/600 men method. Better to NOT be consecutive for us. 12 hour "rest" preferred for maximum fat burning. For example, the day before your fast you eat at 7pm nothing else till morning. If you ate at breakfast at 7 you would have a 12 hour window. Eat your small meal, protein shake or whatever works for you (I do oats) others do Greek yogurt, eggs, cheese/veggies. If you need to small snack mid day then dinner 7 or so. No more then you would have another 12 hour window Tim the next morning. I eat usually late morning or mid day who h means I have a longer rest to start then small snack and that leaves me around 300-350 calories for dinner. Grilled chicken stirfry, Tina salad, lean cuisine. Whatever works for you. Maybe some fresh fruit. Done. Then next day NORMAL for you. I fast Tues/Thurs. others do Mon/Thurs to spread out days. I have completed 3 weeks. Lost 14 pounds. Been lucky. Average weight loss 1-2 week. I am being very conscious of everything in ALL days. Logging all in MFP and exercising 30 mins ( big for me!) most days. Lifestyle. Don't even really think about it at this stage. Not hard for me at all. Others say otherwise. But THIS will be my maintenance. Once reach goal again (6-7 lbs) want to get down below to have 2-3 lb bounce and then it's just life or 6:1 if I think I can keep it off that way. I have small treats usually once a week during social events. I eat CLEAN and healthier and MUCH less on normal days. Sleeve has really shown up again and true hunger. There you have it. Hope that helps, Friend!

Girl, when I saw your 4 # in your weight I got really jealous! Lol. My lowest was 150 (maybe 149) but not now. BUT I'm well on my way back. 10 lbs would put me back at goal but gonna try to push back and not get satisfied and let up till 145 or So. We will see.

How many vets are actually AT goal and staying there?

m2g, I find that interesting because beyond a once a year follow up visit, I have NO support. Saw but ONCE pre surgery. I guess if I asked about they might tell me something I know there is a support group meeting once a month about 30 miles from me but most are Rny. That's why VST has been a very good place fore throughout the journey. Pretty much didn't need other help but it is amazing to me. Think it is probably because my surgeon is not specifically ONLY bariatic though now probably 80% or more. -

Laura, with all the heat and exercise I bet you aren't far off the mark! Sounds like a blast. FYE, I'm envious. I need the beach wind right now. Going to Lodge in the mountains in a couple weekends with my fellow YaYa buddies (4 dear friends and me who have weathered life together) plus we are LETTING our Hubs go too! Then in August to the Smokies with family. But until then, HOT, Hot and HOTTER! 106 when I for in my car yesterday.
