First, Lisa, you look great! Hope for continued relief from GERD for you! My goal is to STAY at my new low goal within 2-3 pound bounce at all times (learned that from Lynda!) Yes, Kim, carbs carbs carbs!! Fasting today and depleting the cravings hopefully! -

SherylJane, I think it comes down to YOU and your choices. I will be honest and tell you that I went BACK on a very low dose anti-depressant last month. I took it for a few years and stopped after surgery thinking I was gonna "conquer the world". Well, I did conquer the WLS but found that I simply needed the additional help for me AND my family! Also, I have absolutely NO HORMONES at all and the low dose helps me. My husband/daughter begged me for months to go back to Dr but I refused. Anger, self rejection, very short fuse, depression. And I thought I should be able to pull myself up so to speak. Oh, also anxiety. So after talking with my Dr and basically telling him the situation, he agreed. I truly feel that "life" wore me out. We dealt with so much severe trauma, anxiety and sheer fear with circumstances concerning both of our children that I just became depleted. For me, it just allows me the "okay, I can do this" or "this will pass" feeling instead of the "what am I gonna do, what am I gonna do, what....." Feeling. I know some might not agree but at my age, I choose to have the help it provides. Not that I never feel anxious or depressed now- I do but not the bottomless pit kind. . Hope that helps.

I am the same way! My "go to" meal for months on 5:2 was 2extra lean turkey franks with a 100 calorie pack of guacamole (good fat) and cut up veggies to eat with such as red and green pepper and cucumbers. lol That was approximately 210 calories! Babybel light cheeses (50 cal ea). No sugar added Popsicle brand fudge bars 40 cals each. 90 cal fiber one bar. Boiled egg. 50 cal Chicken stirfry. About 150 cals. Homemade veggie soup. About 100-150 cals a serving.

Great Article On Low-Carb/high Fat Diets
Georgia replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I, for one, have never included shakes in my WL process. I am lactose intolerant and just could not stomach "pun" them at all without retching. Even the soy Protein added to soy milk. Eck! Now, that being said, at 3 1/2 years out and in maintenance I found EAS that I mix with a cup of coffee and ice to use sometimes on one of my 5:2 days (fast day 500 cal). I was able to get my protein through other things and probably didn't get all I should at times but my bloodwork (except Vit D) was always good. -

Very interesting Georgia that you are experiencing the same thing as me in that low carb no longer works for getting off the regain. If you don't mind, when you get back to the 5:2 plan, I would be curious to follow your progress and your strategy. I am actively following 5:2 now as are several others. Here are my stats from 5:2 and before Sleeved 6/2/10. 250 Goal 2/2011. 150 lbs. loss of 100 Rocked along until approx 3/2013 gradually gaining a few pounds. 6/2013. 177. Regain of 27 pounds Began 5:2 lifestyle. Relost and reached original goal 150 in Oct 2013. Following 5:2 decided to lose addl 10 pounds to have solid "bounce". Reached 140 first part of December 2013. My GOAL to maintain at 139-140 using 5:2. I average 1200-130078 calories daily five days a week and "fast" 500 calories making sure there is at least one 16 hour "fast" window in a 24 hour period 2 days a week. I am on MFP also. georgiasm1 if you use that app. That's the other thing I found. I have to LOG LOG LOG and be aware constantly.

Go to your profile and under "surgery type" change it to correct type. It should then correct itself. Mine showed up as lapband also when BP launched.

Total daily energy expenditure or BMR. Basal metabolic rate (the amount you burn if you do NOTHING). Here is one link. There are several calculators online. You can google it to find different ones to compare. Mine is around 1375! Which is why as VSGers we could never eat 2000 plus calories a day on non-fast days and not gain. Well, unless you are really really burning cals like some are. I'm not! . http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/calorie-calculator-tdee-bmr-bmi/

Well, since many research articles show that WLS patients may become metabolically "altered" and it can take a whole lot less calories to be able to maintain than a non-obese person who had lost some weight to maintain this lifestyle offers a way to do that Have you had your TDEE CALCULATED?

Thanks!

2 years post-op-gained 25 lbs! I'm so scared I've blown it!
Georgia replied to Pagie's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Paige, most importantly, is truly just START! And sooner than later! Like Lynda said, preparation is critical. Clean out the junk, stock your fridge with curio veggies, mini babybel cheese, string cheese, yogurt and plan. I'm not a fan of the pouch because going back to liquids only I think sets you up for failure. At two years out, a day or so to pull back in might help you "starve the carbs" but ultimately, it's the basics or a good lifestyle program like 5:2 which will make the difference. For me, I regained almost 30 pounds around 3 years out just like you and for me, 5:2 gave me the discipline I needed and actually helps your sleeve feel more restrictive on non-fast days and you gradually don't even want to eat as much on non fast days. It took about 4 months to lose the gain and then lost another 10 over the last two months. It's a win-win lifestyle! You have not lost the war, just a battle! You still have your sleeve as your best tool if you use it to advantage. We will def help you! -
