Dear Gussy! (Southern slang) Sheryl, Coops and Kim, hope y'all have a BETTER weekend. Pain and sickness free.
-
I'm also 62... 63 in june. I started to say, Denise, there are at least THREE of us in the "60s" club!!!
-
I've been lucky to be able to lose once I make up my mind to REALLLY get firm with myself. It's just bad junk habits that get me over the long haul.

Vets still trying to lose - what are your macros?
Georgia replied to katesuccess's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'm almost six years out. Lost 100 reached goal in 7 mo. Kept off about 3 years. Regained 27 lbs. lost it with 5:2 intermittent fasting and very clean eating. Kept that off another two. Now have lost 18 since Jan of the same 25 regain. . It can be done. I'm on 1000 a day low carb with two day lower around 500-700 cal. If I eat more than 1350 a day I WILL gain. My problem is junk!! It CAN be done and pretty easily once you start losing again but you have to be really really conscious of what goes into your mouth and When. try to give yourself at least 12-16 hours after last meal of day and the first of next. -
Cathy, that is Awesome! We can do this!!! Coops, here's to a better week! Denise and Sheryl, two words -THIN MINT! Can't have them around. Can't resist them! . But I'm into CAKE. I don't know what it is but last year or so it is a craving! Never was a bigger until now. LOL. I just don't bake and try to avoid but if I'm somewhere and there is a dessert, I will have a slice and make up cals somewhere else hopefully. Was down another pound on Friday so that makes 18 since Jan 2. It does feel good to be productive right now. I just want to be slim and "in charge" for Spring/Summer plus at 62 I've got to fight the health things that sneak up on you like diabetes 2, blood pressure if possible. I'm convinced you can only do so much. Your genetic mapping just comes into play regardless sometimes. Happy Monday, All!

Coops, bless your heart! Hope you feel Better quickly. Upper respiratory crap is very bad here. I've been Hacking my lungs up for 3 weeks. Went to dr a week ago and got shot, breathing treatment, inhaler and meds. Hasn't helped much yet. Don't worry about the fasting right now. Your body needs to recover right now.

I agree with the sentiment about others critiquing our weight. It's like it becomes a threat to them! Lol. That the "fat girl" should EVER weigh less than them! Ha! I was discussing health and stuff with my sister. She said she was walking 2 miles a day and doing some core strengthening so I told her I was back on track with food and losing. That I had lost 17 lbs. she said,"oh, I didn't realize you could gain weight now! Your surgery made it easy for you!" Clunk!!! That's what I wanted to do to her. Haha!! EASY. Nope. Still a fight "err day!"" . I do agree, Sheryl, once started and losing a bit it helps me realize, okay, I can do this. And I CAN still lose the weight. I let myself get freaked that i will be unable to control myself or semi-maintain. Denise, you can too. It is hard to get back to a level of real control for me once I really start bad snacking though. Kim, I am blown away by your nature shots!! I hope you are planning a book or something. 30# is not insurmountable!!! Sheryl and Denise, I do agree though. I think somehow our bodies gang up on us. Like "okay, I'll let you get down to that weight but not that SIZE!" I feel and look larger in pics and clothes now than at this weight two years ago!! Sheryl, I want to look as OLD as you!! Ha! Coops, good for you on the bathing suit! I just do not have the muscle tone in my legs anymore. Not enough exercise. I settle for a cute pair of swim shorts and tank top usually. Even when I was large I had tight good upper legs. Now, um, age plus weight loss not pretty!

Coops, was this a school trip or personal family trip? I could show my exact pics in exact spots!!! Lol. And you Did Blizzard Beach??!! It had to warmer than when I was there. We were freezing. Looks like you had a blast. Looking good in those "ears!" [emoji193]

Revision to sleeve Tuesday. Going to a funeral Thursday.
Georgia replied to GalleyGal's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had sleeve and minimal pain. Some others different. The main thing is taking it slowly. I had no energy. Stayed one night in hospital. I'd go with it. Too hard to reschedule and if you take care and don't overdo, I think you can do it. -
Sheryl, glad your thigh is doing better. Glad you have vigilant Drs looking out for you. Coops, it's a lot isn't it? Just did the whole thing ( four parks) for 10 days in January. My DIL is a Disney fanatic!!! I've done pretty well getting back on the right track since first of year. My goal each day is 1000 cals tops. I try to do two lower cal days on Tues/Thurs of about 500-600. Hit 15 pounds last Friday so feeling better about it all. I've looked at pics from couple years ago when we REALLY got on the 5:2 and I was at lowest and I truly looked my best and felt my best. Need to lose another 10-15 to hit that real low again. Anybody heard from Florinda or did I miss it? Kinda worried
-
Hey all! Sheryl, girl!! You are one brave dude. I'm hoping that your thigh is doing better now. And I'm hoping Coops is having warmer weather than we had. Just Got back from Disneyworld and it was rainy and COLD. had to buy extra sweats and gloves etc to stay warm. El Niño to thank for that. Had a great time with the Son Wife and Grands, though. Husband had neck surgery in Thursday which went well. Stayed overnight and came home Friday. No issues other than swelling in esophagus causing swallowing issues but can already move his neck better. I've been doing sorta 5:2 because a lot of days I wind up with low calories and at least try to keep to close to 500. I've managed to lose 14 pounds since first of January which I really needed to get off. Bad eating for several months prior led to upswing in weight. I need to lose another 10-15 to be back to comfortable low goal weight.

The best to you! I'm sure it will go great and you will be looking back in the near future to the "old" you and marvel!!!
-
I'm interested in your last 2 sentences. How did you discover that? It will be very helpful to me in designing my daily meal plan.
-
Erp (that feels weird typing. ????) yes, Mostly. It's seeming to wind up that way since I'm doing really low cal most of the time. Didn't really plan to call it 5:2 but it did wind up two days under 500 last week and today I'm at 411 and intend to end it around 475 or so. Thanks! Glad to be connected again. ????????????????

I had sleeve done 2010 at age 57 and wish to had been available to us soooo many years earlier! Life changing and life renewing for me. So many things have been added to my life that require energy and health that I KNOW I would not be able to "keep up" if I had not taken the opportunity to regain ME. Go for it! ????????????????

Since undoing low carb at the moment this is really relevant to me. I've found doing low carb helps me break the sugar addiction I've fallen into the past few months but also, obviously, for me I lose weight faster. With that said I ALSO have to be very mindful of calories knowing that for me to lose I have to be somewhere around 1000 a day. To maintain somewhere around 1350 or less. I started this last Tuesday and have lost about 9 lbs in that time. Quite amazing to me but I know a lot is Fluid retention from the holidays. My carbs are primarily eggs, hard cheese (light mini baby bel) and chicken. Small amount of beef. I try to keep the veggies to low carb kind with a few small amounts of carrots thrown in once in a while. For me the hardest is fruit. I LOVE fruit. I was amazed to see on my MFP how many carbs a small banana had!! ????. I do usually have a half a Fuji apple with 1 tablespoon PB2 at night for a snack. I've also had a couple cuties which are not as high in carbs Once I get really under control and re-lose my 15 lbs I will gradually add back more carbs BUT not like before where it was a free for all. I need more fats at the moment but scared to add much since this seems to be working for me. Oh, yeah, and I'm doing REALLY low cal couple days a week (500) twice weekly as part of semi-5:2 intermittent fasting which has worked well for me in the past. Oh, yeah, and I'm 5 1/2 years out from Sleeve

Appetite suppressants (prescribed) 2 years out...
Georgia replied to McButterpants's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
This is an awesome article and great resource. I've saved it to my phone and especially the EO recipe. I've just started with these and need all the help I can get especially this one. I do have constant hunger UNLESS I am at work and then can go all day. But at home, wow!!! -
Post Holiday Healthy Eating Re-Boot
Georgia replied to mialoveslenny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well said. Proud of you. I know it's difficult with what you have faced but your head is in the right place and that's the hardest part!!! I'm doing a reset right now too. Low carb, low calorie to re-lose the 20 pounds I've allowed over the last year. ????. Almost six years out now from Sleeve. We've got this! -
The struggle is real and life long
Georgia replied to Jerzprincess's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Agreed. Lifelong struggle. Others may say not but for me it's too easy to eat junk. I had sleeve two months before you. Currently re-losing 20 pounds to get back to 150. I'm 5'8" and 62 so I'm determined to keep at it because I did this for HEALTH reasons first and cosmetics next. Don't want to lose sight of that!!! -
I'll be honest I've been off the site for a while but felt the need to reconnect this week so glad to see your post. I AM sad to see that the true VET forum is gone. I always enjoyed being able to communicate with many long term vets versus this maintenance thread. To me, vet was much more than maintenance. Oh, well. I'm sure that's been hashed and rehashed. I love that u tossed the scale. I did too but, um, not same results. Ha! Too much easy slide junk food so now back on the wagon and losing 20 lbs of regain. Done it before and will again Like you and others, almost six years out and SLEEVE did change my life! I just turned 62. 62! How is that possible? ???? Thanks for your post and continued success!!

Happy 2016 to all! Been a long time since I've even opened BP! I've just tried to catch up on everbody and must say, I had to re-read some pages to make sure I was following the thread correctly. ????. Been a lot going on for most everyone it seems as it has for me. 2015 was definitely challenging in many ways and very happy in others. My husband has gone through some health issues from existing chronic things like diabetes etc. Finally got some of that straightened out. Got scarey. He lost about 35 pounds in a month or so. Couldn't eat hardly anything. Had every test known to man and finally was diagnosed to have a drug interaction with one of diabetes drugs he had been on for a long time. Took him off that one and went on insulin once a day and was like a miracle! Regained the lost weight and started feeling better almost overnight. Now, major neck issues with spinal stenosis. Get to spend all day Monday sitting in hospital while he has testing done (myelogram). Takes several hours to complete and then a few hours in intensive care to watch him. Probably will have neck surgery soon. ????. I guess we are at that stage with him where old injuries and ailments are coming to the forefront. Also been the year of babies and joy for me! Elton John Ray and Iris Grace made their appearance 4 weeks apart this summer! Me, on the other hand, just chucked it all to the wind and totally been eating pure junk diet!! Back up to where I started when we started this thread! ????. In the middle of a reset now , day 4, and not been as hard as I thought but I'm hungry! ????. I was relieved, though, when one day later I had lost five pounds! That let me know SOME of it was just pure bloat from the carb overload. Four days out I've lost 8 pounds which kinda freaks me out. I'm really watching carbs and low calorie and know that this loss is mostly Fluid but at least it's encouraging. Need to lose another 15 to get back to original goal. I am determined to do it because I can see at six years out how easily you can regain and just keep doing it!! Good to read and catch up with all of my "old friends!" Hoping those of you who have had health issues the best and quick recoveries and better 2016s. Sarah, praying for your Dad! I've followed Kim's motorcycle adventures on FB! You are braver than me!! ???????????? From my buds across "the pond", stay safe! Lots of crazy stuff going on these days. Going to Disney with family end of January who now have metal detectors too!!! Let's kick ourselves in the butt and get going on a better and healthier 2016! Love to all!

I found this interesting. As I have always had a very keen sense of smell anyway it only increased my objection to certain foods after VSG. Weight Loss Surgery May Change Sense of Taste and Smell April 25, 2014 Weight loss surgery patients reported a change in their sense of taste and smell, according to a recent study conducted with 103 British patients. The patients all underwent Roux-en-Y (RNY) gastric bypass surgery. Forty-two percent of patients reported a change in their sense of smell after surgery. Seventy-three percent reported a change in their sense of taste. In addition to change in taste, patients reported development of a dislike of food they previously enjoyed while others reported a new aversion to some food. Researchers also found that patients who developed a change in taste and smell, or aversion to foods lost an average of eighteen more pounds than those patients who reported no changes to their senses. However, the study does not indicate a direct cause and effect, the results could be due to other factors. Did you experience changes to your senses after surgery? Source: Preidt, R.
