It definitely changed overnight. LOL -
1 week out today! Way different than I expected!
Fleur de lis replied to PamelaAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a week out today, too. What a difference from last week! I'm finally able to upgrade my food from broth to full liquids, which includes some not so liquids. I tried grits this morning and that didn't work so well. Currently, I'm giving cottage cheese a go. We'll see how that goes. I'm also waiting for when I feel whole again and I can be one of the people exclaiming about how much I LOVE my sleeve -
September sleevers wanted!
Fleur de lis replied to determined1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've started feeling hungry. At first, I wasn't sure if it was hunger or stomach acid, too, but I figured I would wait it out and see. Definitely hunger. LOL. So I just eat a popsicle and drink some water or protein drink and I'm good to go. -
Okay, thanks! I didn't ask about adding fiber though. The nurse mentioned during discharge that they should start by themselves. But I have my week follow up on Tuesday, so hopefully I can remember to ask about the fiber.

September sleevers wanted!
Fleur de lis replied to determined1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I, too, was sleeved on the 27th. I had lost 13lbs on my pre-op diet. The nurses told me to weigh myself everyday, so when I got home from the hospital on Wednesday, I discovered I lost a pound. Then yesterday, I gained a pound. And today, I'm down 2 more lbs. I think weighing myself everyday is excessive so I probably won't do that anymore. But don't worry. It hasn't even been a week yet. The weight will start to come off. Just make sure you get the recommended amount of liquid each day and everything will work itself out :wink0: -
Game. ON. (3 days post-op)
Fleur de lis replied to vanishingvixen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats! I'm glad you're feeling better! I was sleeved on Monday and today is the first day I'm actually starting to feel better. My BP is sky high right now, too, and I've been put on meds, but hopefully that will end soon. Keep it up! -
My cycle wasn't due to start until the Friday after my surgery, and I continued to take my BC pills everyday, including the day of surgery. However, my cycle started on Wednesday, but it's not like a regular one. I don't even really know how to explain it. There is barely anything coming out, and it's more orange than red. Weird, I know. But since it's not heavy, I haven't even really been thinking about it. I wonder if it will go back to normal next month?

That was hilarious!! Thanks for sharing.

This might be a long one, so hold tight. But really, it will depend on how much energy I have to type. Here's my experience so far: I feel like crap. Everyone who ever told me they had surgery on Friday and were ready to go back to work by Monday are either crazy, on drugs, or a superhero. I can't imagine going back to work now. Or ever, really. LOL. I'll give a day by day account: Monday: got to the hospital about 1 1/2 hours early, but they took me back anyways and prepped me. I talked to about a million people and then finally they started to give me drugs. The last thing I remember is starting at the big lights in the operating room. I woke up (sort of) to people telling me to move from the gurney to my bed. I was not happy, I wasn't sore, but I was REEEEEALLY tired. The first few hours of waking up sucked. Then, at night, the gas pains were KILLER. I literally thought an alien baby was going to pop out of my abdomen. I hated it. I could only have Water and ice chips and every sip of water made my abdomen feel like it was expanding. Needless to say, I didn't drink much. Tuesday: I started feeling better and I was taken to x-ray so they could make me drink this stuff (not barium this time) and make sure nothing was leaking. The x-ray doctor kept telling me take big gulps. I just looked at her like "Um, are you aware of this procedure? I can not take big gulps." So I sipped as much as I could and then told them I couldn't anymore. I probably could have, but I was going to vomit. Speaking of, I couldn't keep down my pain meds. They gave me ativan, loritab, and something else through my IV. But then every time I gave myself a dose of morphine, I threw up. So out went the pain meds. Fun, right? Oh, gas pains tonight were so much worse than on Monday. I went from pain level 4 to 10 in about 20 minutes. I asked God to help and then begged my mother to shoot me. Not a good night. Wednesday: Again, woke up feeling better and was release from the hospital. The gas pains at night are the worst, but I hardly feel them during the day. So little by little, it WILL get better. But initially, it will be your own small circle of hell. At least, it was for me. Oh. I almost forgot. My blood pressure has been going up and up and up since Monday when I checked in. I'm normally in the normal 120/80 range, but it even got up to 166/98 at one point. So now, ironically, I'm on blood pressure meds. It's been hard getting my fluids in but I'm discovering today that it will be easier to keep track of stuff if I write it down. I'm supposed to be drinking 4-6oz every waking hour, but lately I've only been getting about 2oz. It probably doesn't help that I'm also sleeping most of the time. Whew. I gotta go rest now.

3 days post-op
Fleur de lis replied to Fleur de lis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for the support. Since waking up this morning, I have felt so much better. I definitely understand the restlessness. My bed is nice and comfy and I managed to sleep on my side, with the use of many pillows. But I would lay down and then feel the need to get right back up. I've tried to spend most of the time up and moving because I've noticed that I feel worse when I just lay down all day. I'm hoping I can head back to Orlando late next week. Fingers crossed. Oh, and an update on the dad situation. We didn't tell him until I was at the hospital getting prepped for surgery. I haven't really spoken to him but my sister did and he's NOT happy. Not that I expected him to be. According to her, he's more disappointed than angry. So we'll just see what happen. @ Ninaboo: mine is slowly starting to get better. For me, the gas is worse when I'm just laying down or right after I drink some broth. But (and the nurse was right about this) once it starts to come out of the other end, you'll feel a lot better. -
Hi Pam,
Just wanted to check on you and see how your surgery went. Hope you're doing well!

Im getting scared!!!
Fleur de lis replied to sleeveorbust's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The IV blows. That was probably the worst part. I was given a 4 hour window to pee or else they were going to give me a catheter. I made it n 3 hrs 45 mins. -
I wish I was excited as those exclamation points, but alas, I'm not. Today is freaking rough. Surgery is on Monday so I came up yesterday to Jacksonville and I'm staying at my parents' house. And they're having a BBQ. Awesome. Luckily, I can eat meat and veggies during my 2 week pre-op diet, but not so lucky that they have slathered everything in BBQ sauce (15g of sugar, no bueno) and there is fruit and bread EVERYWHERE (also, no bueno). So now I'm sitting my room, mad as hell. Oh, and for those of you that don't know, my father still doesn't know I'm having surgery. My mother's brilliant idea is to tell him tomorrow night before we go to bed so that we don't have to try and sneak out of the house Monday morning. I'm not too sure how that will go down, but I do know that I will be sleeping with my car keys, just in case. I'll let yall know how things go tomorrow. I'm just ready to do this already!

I'm on day 5 of my 14 day pre-op diet (I'm getting sleeved on 9/27). Some days I'm okay but others I feel like all I do all day is eat. I've been sticking to no carbs and no sugar. Well, except for when I had some honey mustard with chicken tenders the other day. The sugar in it made my whole body feel like it was alive. LOL. Anyhow, I'm wondering how others are coping. Are there any recipes you can share because I am going to strangle myself if I eat chicken and green Beans one more time, and I still have 9 days to go. And how do I get one of those countdown ticker thingies?

Starting my journey to health!
Fleur de lis replied to vickieb's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats Vickie! and welcome :001_smile: I haven't tried this, but many people talk about putting some sugar-free syrups in their Protein shakes to help with the flavor. Do you have ready made shakes or are they ones you have to make yourself? As far as ready made shakes go, I bought Premium Advantage shakes from costco, but I believe they also sell them at Sam's Club. They kind of have a weird aftertaste, but they aren't horrible. -
I love Degree clinical protection. I don't really need the clinical strength but I use it just in case. It's awesome!

Maybe bring it just in case. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it :001_tongue: -

September sleevers wanted!
Fleur de lis replied to determined1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm having surgery next week on the 27th, and I still don't really feel anything. I would think that having gone through so much with trying to get this surgery, I would be over the moon. But I'm not. I'm not nervous either. I just feel....nothing. Does anyone else feel like that? -
10 more days til Surgery!!! HELP!
Fleur de lis replied to sleeveorbust's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got this binder of information from my bariatric center and in it is a hospital checklist. Here's what's on it: clothes to go home in, that don't bind at the waist chapstick toothbrush and toothpaste brush socks pillow slippers and short robe breath freshener drops deodorant glasses or contacts (and solution) list of family/friends with contact numbers, just in case copy of living will and/or power of attorney Water bottle Knowing me, I'll probably STILL forget to bring stuff, but I hope this helps.
