  1. Did your surgeon over your incisions with the glue? I had to peel all of mine off about 1 week post op, because all my incisions were red/itchy/inflamed.
  2. You look amazing. I see your ticker says you want to lose 49 more lbs. from where? You're so tiny!
  3. I had the same thing happen to me...turns out that I'm allergic to the skin glue they used on my incisions. I'm also allergic to foam tape, which is the tape that more surgeons use. The welts ooze and itch terribly. I was cleared by my surgeon to take benadryl (which is available in liquid and chewable forms OTC) and Atarax. It cleared up quickly once I started the medications. Hope it gets better soon!
  4. I would have told her that I have some mistletoe in my back pocket and she could find something to kiss under it. You're averaging over 18lbs a month, which is fantastic. Its true that your weight loss will slow down and stop at some point, but you are far from that time. For me, it was closer to 9 months out when I noticed an increase in eating, but I'm still losing (albeit slowly now). Don't let one ignorant person's comment take away from what you have acomplished. You're doing great and no doctor or nurse can ever take away yur acheivement thusfar.
  5. I was sleeved 11 months ago, and am now down to 167.8 from a high of 286.7. 118.9 lbs lost and 13.8 more to go. I was hoping to make goal by new year, but I've readjusted since my weigtloss has slowed down so much

    Funny NSV!

    Awesome story!
  7. I had my gallbladder out in August of '09. more than a year before my VSG. For the first 6 months or so, I was extremely lactose intolerant. That issue had mostly resolved itself now, though I still have to go light on dairy and never any more than low-fat (non-fat is best). The worst issue that I've had is that I developed some food allergies since the removal. I'm allergic to bananas, oats, eggs, chicken (who has ever heard of that?? lol), chocolate, corn...just to name a few. None of these allergies existed pre-op, and even though my surgeon says they aren't related, I have my doubts. Just do what feels right for you
  8. I'm 9+ months out and I still have days where I feel weak/shaky. I talked to my NUT and she talked to me about something called reactive hypoglycemia. Basically what happens that that our bodies sometimes still produce the amouts of insulin that it did when we ate so much more, and it can cause a low blood sugar. I started snacking on turkey jerky during the day, just a piece here and there. and I feel so much better. For me, I also feel really rundown and get winded exercising if I am even a little bit dehydrated. Did you do labs a 6 month out?

    Women Only Question

I think it does depend a lot on genetics, I was a 46F at my highest, and I'm a 34F now. I've only got a bit more left, and I'm thinking it isn't coming off there. Hopefully anyway!
  11. Just put on a size 8 in pants...amazed

  12. I'm 8 months out, and feeling pretty good. In the beginning, collages like these always helped to remind me wht my ultimate goal wa. . I'm lost more than 100lbs and am getting closer to where i want to be. Its been quite a journey, and the time has flown by.

You know you lost weight when

When the wedding rings that used to fit so snugly that they left marks fall off your fingers and you have to hunt around in the laundry basket to find them (time to find a jeweler to size them)
  14. I'm about 7 1/2 months out, and on my 3rd UTI. I had only ever had 1 in my life pre-op, so it's pretty obvious to me that something has changed. I've also had strep twice, so in 7 months I've been on antibiotics 5 times. All my 6 months labs came back fine, but I'm wonderig if something was missed. Anyone else have their immune system seemingly go on strike post-op?

    The double standard

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I had my first negative experience since my weight loss today. I went to the bank to cash a check that was given to me. Its not my regular bank, so the teller asked for my ID. I handed it over and then signed and thumb stamped the check. At this point the teller tells me that she needs to get an approval. She walks over to the teller next to her and they are talking. The angle that they were at made is possible for me to see the computer screen and I could see that they were looking at other checks I had cashed from the same account. At this point, I'm wondering what is going on, and am starting to get a little anxious. After a few minutes of this, both tellers come over and the original one then askes me how I want to money. I tell her and as shes counting it out the second teller says "If you don't mind me asking, how much weight have you lost?" I was stunned! So much so that I just answered her. To this she replies "You really need to take a new picture for your ID" Now, I understand that banking is a business and they need to look out for fraud. While I was a bit annoyed by it I do understand why they were checking it out. What I didn't like was how the teller talked to me. Say the tables were turned and I had GAINED 100lbs instead of lost it. Would it be okay for her to say the same things to me? It was rude, thoughtless, and condesending. So much for customer service
  16. So here I am, about 6 1/2 months out, and my own mind still hasn't caught up to the fact that I look a little different than I did. I've lost more than 100lbs, and have gone from a size 22/24 to a size 10 (really probably an 8 now, but havent been shopping). I know that I must look different, but I still don't see it. So this ,morning, my 6-year-old son comes to me, very seriously, and asks me "Mommy, are you one a diet?" As I didn't realy discuss my WLS with my kids, it suprised me a bit, but nonetheless I responded with the "Ive been eating a lot less" answer that I give anyone that asks about the weightloss. Then I ask him why. He tells me that he doesn't want to tell me. At this point, I am so curious at what is going on in his little mind that I just have to know. I ask him again and he again says he doesn't want to tell me, because its mean. Finally, after some encourging and compromising, he says he will just whisper it in my ear. He gets close, and says "Because mommy, you aren't FAT anymore!" I just had to laugh. I had no response for that! I didn't hurt my feeling, but realy suprised me that someone so little and typically oblivious to the world would be so perceptive. Actually made my day!
  17. I've notcied recentsly that when I smile, I have some pretty bad crows feet! I'm only 29, so I am not blaming aging on this one. Anyone else have this happen? And what the heck can I do about them???

    Wrinkles?

I'm really hoping that as my weight starts to stablize the skin on my face tightens up...otherwise I might give botox a try! I look so much older! Not that I would trade in the surgery to smooth skin again, but both would be wonderful. I would love to find a cream I could use, but my skin is sooo frickin' sensitive that I'm scared to buy anything. I requested a free sample for skin ANEW from avon, and the said they would send it to me. None of the other manufactures were all that willing to send smaples =(
  19. I am in the 170's! Have not been here since Jr. High! Woohoo

    The hope is...

Greetings and welcome! You are making a wonderful decision for yourself! We have all had different issues but those problmes are nothing compared to what comes with obesity.

    losing too much too fast…

At 3 weeks out I was eating a full liquid/semi soft diet. Yogurt, pudding, thick soup, cottage cheese smashed. Jello was brought to me in the hospital, so it was okay right away. Have you talked to your surgeon about advancing to the next phase?

    Shoe Size....

My foot shrunk a whole bumch, and it happened pretty soon after surgery. I went from a 9 1/2 Wide to a regular 8 about 2 months after surgery. I haven't ized myself since, but I think they may have gone down even more than that. Its been hot enough that I've just stuck to flip flops for now. I am getting close to the end (knock on wood) and am going to wait until winter to really but any more shoes. It's amazing how much changes, in't it?
  24. I had my gall bladder removed several yeqrs ago, pre VSG. For about 6 months post-op I was extremely lactose-intolerant. I couldn't even stomach a cup of yogurt. its not the same for everyone, of course, but something to be cautious of
