    Feeling Hunger?

I am 3+ years out and I have felt hunger since the first week. It's easily satisfied, but always returns.

    Belching?

Yep...I belch all the time. I have noticed it is particularly bad if I eat to full or eat sugary stuff. I've just accepted it as the way it is!

    Attention Veteran Sleevers!

I am 3+ years out a doing great. Eastting small portions is not hard because I am not hungry, although I still have to watch what I eat because I can accidentally eat too much and get over full if I am not paying attention. It's not a plesant feeling and I try to avoid it. I can basically eat everything in moderation. After surgery I got down to 125, which is really too thin for me. Even though I got a lot of negative feedback about being "too thin," I didn't worry about it because most people gain a little back and sure enough, I seem to have settled at 135 over the last year, which works well for my frame. I have no issues maintaining my weight without exercise (I've had some unrelated injuries this year making exercise difficult). I don't regret surgery for a moment. Cherice

    If no NAIDS...then what?

Talk to your regular doctor about what they would recommend. There are lots of people who can't take NSAIDS for various reasons.

    2 days till op

The first three days were rough for me and then it got way better. Everyone is different though.

    Protein Shake

it is truly a matter of personal taste. I tried and ton and the only one I could tolerate was The Optimum 100% Whey Protein (gold standard). It was 24 grams of protein and 3 grams of carbs.

    What to Wear there ?

I wore loose sweats and a sweatshirt to surgery and the same home. While I was in the hospital I wore the gown and I did bring a robe and slippers for walking the halls. I only brought one small bag with underwear and a magazine that i never felt well enough to read.
  8. The meds actually made me sick. I felt way better when they stopped them.

I need to drop 25 lbs right now

I put myself on a mostly liquid diet and the weight came off very fast. I did protein shakes twice a day and a salad with some kind of chicken or turkey. make sure you are getting a good shake that has very little sugar and lots of protein (all shakes are not equal). Drink lots of water and take vitamin supplements. I also ate a banana a day to keep up my potassium. You can do it!

    Eating before surgery

If you are going to have a farewell to your favorite foods party, I'd recommend doing it sooner rather than later. It does take your body a couple of days to process out all the fatty foods and you don't want that in your system for surgery. As long as your doctor doesn't object, eat all your favorite foods and enjoy!
  11. Find a protein shake you can tolerate. I spend the first couple of weeks on broth and protein shakes. It would take me all day to get down one shake. I wouldn't be too concerned with food.

    spanx everyday

I did wraps before and after surgery. Oddly, I noticed results in the wraps before, but saw almost no improvement after. Even the person doing the wrap commented on it. So, I haven't been back. I do wear spanx or control top nylons under my clothes a lot, but not necessarily every day.
  14. Congratulations! keep up the good work.

    For The Post-Op Veterans!

These questions are always so hard to answer because no two people are exactly alike. I am two years out and I CAN eat anything in moderation, but it took me a long tme to get here. It is just in the last six months that I could really eat a traditional sandwich and even still it needs to be on thin sliced bread. There is no way I could eat a hoagie roll. My friend had surgery nine months after me and within a month was eatting more food then me and things I could not even imagine eatting. Everyone is different.

    Hunger

You may have acid that masking as hunger. I know that does happen to a lot of people. I was one of the unfortunate souls who were hungry right after surgery and it never stopped. I feel hunger every day. I just focus on how it takes to fill me up.

    Completely Given Up

On average I lost about 11 pounds a month until I reached my current weight at 11 months. You are doing just fine and I am not sure why you are upset about your weight loss. Some people feel more hurger then others. I was hungry within a week of surgery and it has never changed. I get full very fast, but I feel hungry several times a day.
  18. I am two years post op and reached my current weight at 11 months post op. I really never had a "goal" for myself and I think it helped. I understood going in that some people lose more than others and really just tried to roll with the punches. In the end I lost more than I imagined I would, but I am fine with it. I understand that statistically I will gain 10-15 pounds within five years so I don't worry about being too skinny now. I have a current BMI of 20, which is smack in the middle of being normal. I don't really think about food at all. I eat when I am hungry and although I eat pretty healthy overall, I don't deprive myself. I can eat almost anything in moderation. The VOLUME of food I can consume at once is still small and I wouldn't want it any other way.

How Likely Am I To Get Approved By Kaiser?

I had surgery with kaiser. Their criteria is 40 bmi with at least one co-morbidity. If you have high blood pressure (even if it is controlled with medication) that is a co-morbidity. I would ask for a sleep apnea test now and go through that process. You might be surprised. I never thought I had it, but I did! Also, if you have pain in your hips and knees get that documented. My hips started locking up on me from the excess weight and I would fall down. Get everything documented with your GP. That goes a long way with kaiser. Good luck!

    Should I Be Hungry?

MaryJane, Yes...I felt hunger right away. I also had severe acid and that may have been part of what I was feeling. The cravings do get better. I still craved everything in the beginning, but eventually as I got all the sugar out of my system it slowed down. Also, as you get used to eatting less fat, you realize that it just doesn't tast good to you. I was a bit of a fast food junky before surgery and wanted a Wendy's cheeseburger BAD about three months post surgery. So I thought I would just buy one a take a bite to stisfy my craving. Well, it smelled good to me, but once I took a bite, I knew I had turned a corner. it just did not taste good to me anymore. At that point, I had to just let go of my "old" cravings and realize that it was all mental. I really did not want to the eat that food anymore. I had a couple of other situations like that when I would try my "old" favorites and it was worth it to prove to myself that I am different now. I have been at goal for quite some time now and I eat pretty much everything in moderation, although I stay clear of fast food.

    How To Gain Weight Post-Op

What kind of doctor recommends alcohol and soda to a post bariatric surgery patient?! I would seriously have concerns. I was warned that it is possible to lose too must weight. Of course, some people never lose as much as they would have liked so it is not across the board. I did have a friend who has Gastric Bypass who lost more than she wanted to and she consistently upped her calorie intake until she got back to where she wanted to be, but she didn't eat crap food. Keep in mind, that it is normal for people to gain 10-15 pounds within five years. My doctor said not to worry if I felt like I got a little too skinny because my sleeve would stretch a little over time and I would gain some weight.

    Should I Be Hungry?

Everyone is different. I was hungry within a couple of days so consider yourself lucky. I am almost 2 years out and I do feel hunger regularly, but it is not the same type of hunger I felt before surgery and it is satisfied with very little. Don't worry...it all comes together.
