Anyone had a problem getting as much time off as they want?
cherice95403 replied to ImdownwithVSG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You might want to check with your supplemental insurance to see if they only pay for "disability period." You will not be disabled for 6-8 weeks and no ethical doctor would write you a note otherwise. My supplemental plans only pay if you are truly disabled in my experience as a HR/benefits person. -
Kaiser-So Cal///Meal replacement (Optifast) & Protein
cherice95403 replied to BlaqBeary's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Kaiser doesn't really support that, but I lost most of my pre-op weight by drinking protein shakes. Their "diet" is just way too much food for me. There is no way I would lose on that. At least not very fast. If you doecide to do it, just keep it to yourself :lol0: -
That should be fine. My surgeon says 3 weeks, but lots of people seem to go back to non physical jobs after 2 weeks.

Poll: To tell or not to tell co-workers
cherice95403 replied to Texanatheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not volunteering the information in advance, but I will definitely tell people after. I won't be screaming it from the roof tops, but honestly, I cannot imagine lying about it. Saying you cut portions and are working with a trainer is a lie to me, but that is my own personal ethics (no judgments). People will find out and feel deceived. I have been on the receiving end of the "cryptic" information and I lost all respect for that person. I am confident that surgery is the best option for me and if the people around me think less of me for doing it, they I don't care about them anyway. -
September sleevers wanted!

I don't really have a presurgery diet. I had to lose about 20 pounds before they would schedule surgery. Now that I have lost that, I just have to maintain until surgery day-9/22/10 :lol0: -
Hi Mariah, I work in Human Resources for a government agency in CA. There is Federal Family Leave (FMLA) and CA Paid Family Leave (PFL). PFL is income replacement and does not protect your job. FMLA is job protection, but not income replacement. The leaves will often run concurrently if you are eligible. Since you will be out for your own serious illness, you should be eigible, but you will need a note from your physician. This is typically a pretty standard thing for medical offices so I am sure if you ask the Mexican doctor he will be able to send it to you. Keep in mind, that you may be required to use up to two week (definitely one) of your own leave balances so you really won't get a lot since you won't be out that long. I encourage you to contact your HR department ASAP and ask what the requirements are. They may have their own forms to complete and you probably only want to contact your doctors office once about this. Cherice

Hi all...just wanted to check in since it has been a while. It is great to see all the South SF folks! I have been on hold while I was being tested for sleep apnea, which of course came back positive because that is my luck. I am FINALLY going to a class on 8/9 and getting a CPAP machine. Mt test was 6/30 so you can imagine my frustration at how slow this is going. I have my final appointment and weigh in on 8/13 (still need to drop 1#!) with my surgeon Dr. Alami and I am hoping to be put on the schedule about a month or so out. All other appointments and classes have been done. This feels like it has taken FOREVER, but I am sure you all relate. -

I am shocked to hear how rude and difficult the staff is at Richmond. S. SF is not like that at all. Everyone was very friendly and understanding and really went out of their way to be accommodating. I hope people are complaining about that lady because that is unacceptable. -

Hi...my doctor's name is Dr. Ahlmed (sp). I am floored at how fast I have gone through the process. Everyone talks about how slow they are, but it has been amazing. I had an orientation on 6/1, on 6/18 I met with the NP, had a psych eval, chest x-ray, and met with the surgeon. Today I have my nutrition and lifestyle classes and that is it. They want me to do a sleep study on 6/30 because of the shape of my neck and if all is ok, they will schedule surgery. I was able to drop 12 pounds between 6/1 and 6/18, which really helped. Now I am just trying to drop the final 5. Did you have to do a liquid pre-op diet? I see a lot of people talking about it here, but there has been no mention on it from kaiser. How are you feeling? Hi there...I am awaiting sleeve surgery with Kaiser S. SF. I have had all my pre-op appointments/classes and am just waiting for a sleep study on 6/30 to confirm I do not have sleep apnea. Surgeon wants me to lose 5 more pounds, but I am not too worried about that. Excited to see some locals getting sleeved -
Kaiser N. Cal anyone in the Sacramento area?
cherice95403 replied to lorden88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow Sherri! I am impressed with how fast you are going through the program. I just had my orientation in South SF today and I really hoping things go fast. It looks like you were not required to lose a full 10% of weight before surgery-is that true? Cherice
