  1. Well, I think I jinked myself. For the first time EVER I actually went up. I did eat a lot of "crap" food this past week, but it is still a shock considering all the exercising I did. I will get back on the wagon this week. I may just be getting to the point where I have to work for it a little harder. We'll see. Here are my stats this week: HW 248 SW 230 Last week-160.1 This Week-161.5 Lost this week-Big, fat nothing!
  2. Wow..you guys both had big losses last week. That is great. I have been really consistent. I keep telling myself the gravy train is going to slow down soon, but so far, so good. I feel like I can't really keep this up as I get closer to goal, but I'll take what I can get. Headed out today for 5 days in snowy Lake Tahoe with another family. A little worried about the food thing. They know about surgery, but in the past there has been a lot of junk food. Issues came up as we were meal planning and I think we worked through it, but I feel like a party pooper because I can't eat crap (if that makes sense). It should be intersting. In general, I have avoided eating around others since surgery. I'll not be able to escape this week. Here are my stats this week: HW 248 SW 230 Last week-162.4 This Week-160.1 Lost this week-2.3
  3. I had major gurgling for a couple of months. It was so bad I couldn't eat in front of other people. As for pain, I would get that is I ate too fast. Eat about 1/2 (or less) of that and wait 15 minutes before eating the other 1/2. Cherice
  4. You could take some Maalox too chewables in between. I find that helps. You may also need a higher dose. I would encourage you to talk to your doctor and be blunt about how bad it is. I had the same issues and had to go to a higher dose and I added Carafate 4 times a day as well. If your PPI is in the form of a capsule, change to a tablet. This is huge. Make sure you don't eat a couple of hours before bed and if you can handle it, elevate your upper body while you sleep. Foods to avoid: anything with a tomato base/sauce, high fat, citrus of any kind, sugar, coffee. If you are a milk drinker, switch to lactose free. hang in there!
  5. 17 pounds in 4 weeks is GREAT! How could you not be happy with that?
  6. Happy Monday! Julie, I totally undestand about not really wanting to eat. I sometimes have to force myself and it's odd because I am hungry, but I just don't want to eat. I actually have been adding a string cheese or two in every day. I just really started doing that in the last week or so. I've never heard of quinoa, but I looked it up. Do you eat it like rice? It also looks like it can be a Breakfast Cereal. It looks interesting. Thanks for the tip! Congrats on your big loss this week Here are my stats this week: HW 248 SW 230 Last week-165 This Week-162.4 Lost this week-2.6
  7. I was exactly the same and I think a lot of people are. I think your experience is more normal, than not. Keep at it. You will feel better soon. The hunger I am sorry to say has not gone away with me. I had surgery on 9/21 and I crave a cheeseburger every day! I am on a PPI. I definitely have the head hunger/cravings, but I am legitimately hungry too. I have just gotten used to being in a constant state of hunger. Obviously, I can't indulge my cravings, but it doesn't diminish them
  8. Yeah...you guys are getting way more Protein than me. I am probably closer to 30-40 grams a day. I am just not a meat eater (unless it is in the form of a cheese burger, which is now out of the questions ) and I don't like tofu. But, this is nothing new. I didn't eat a lot of protein before surgery either. Here are my stats this week: HW 248 SW 230 Last week-166.9 This Week-165 Lost this week-1.9
  9. Welcome Meri! Irene that was a great loss that week! Julie, I'm glad you are staying positive. Overall your loss has been really high. You have definitely lost more than me. I am doing pretty good. Feeling better with my new meds. I still really struggle with getting Protein in. I have never been a meat eater and in general have always been on a low protein/high carb diet. I now eat as much salad and fruit as I can (versus the french fries and pizza I preferred before surgery), but still don't like the protein sources. How much are you guys getting in? Cherice Here are my stats: HW 248 SW 230 Last week-169.9 This Week-166.9 Lost this week-3
  10. Irene...5 pounds is great! You deserve two dancers to celebrate! :Banane48: I have busted the 170s-woohoo! I am just 35 pounds to my goal of 135 which to hard to believe. Here are my stats: HW 248 SW 230 Last week-173 This Week-169.9 Lost this week-3.1
  11. Amber, if you are taking the prilosec capsules request the liquid or a different medication. I was having a lot of issues with irritated stomach and discovered that my stomach was having trouble breaking down the capsules. After talking to some others, I found that this is common. It has only been two days and I am feeling better. Cherice
  12. I was really low energy for over a month. I can't believe you went back to work so fast. You need rest! It does get better. Everyone has a different recovery and it is not always easy. Mine has been a really rough road and I am still having serious issues. I imagine everyone has that "what the heck have I done" moment Eating solid food does feel more satisfying, but comes with its own challenges. I think we put too much pressure on ourselves to recovery quickly and easily, feel great immediately, be satisfied with our consumption, and love our sleeve. I saw that message a lot when I was doing research, but after the fact, when I really probed and read between the lines I noticed people struggling. You are not alone and your feeling are normal. I really wish we heard a little more about "the dark side" so people would be prepared. Don't worry about weight loss at this point. I didn't even START to lose until 2 weeks post op (that was annoying). Your body is swollen and healing and it takes time. Once I really started losing I have been pretty consistently losing 1-3 pounds a week. It will all come together and you will feel better and better each week. Try not to push yourself! Cherice
  13. I told my immediate family before surgery and my co-workers because they all wanted to know why i was going to be out of work for a month. It was innocent. They thought I was going on a awesome vacation. I didn't have to tell them, but of course they would have noticed when I came back that i was shrinking fast and not eating and that would have just felt like lying to me. Since I have had surgery I have had a lot of people ask me what diet I am on and I am honest about WLS. I have lost 76 pounds in six months. People will definitely notice that. I don't scream it from the roof tops, but if it comes up, I don't hide it. People will eventually find out and be hurt that you lied to them and for what? It just isn't worth trying to be sneaky. As for eating, there are limitations initially. I am four months out and there are still a lot of things I can't eat. Even what I can eat is really just a few bites. If everyone around you knows, it isn't awkward. Thanksgiving and Christmas felt a little strange, but that was just me. My family acted like it was totally normal that I wasn't eating. I can certainly eat in restaurants. I just take 90% of it home with me
  14. Julie you are too funny with that comment on your "girls." I was just thinking that I really need some new foundation garments. Everything is slip sliding around and it is super annoying. That will be my plan this weekend!
  15. I haven't had any bile come up, but I can can taste it in my mouth all the time. It is pretty gross. Are you taking anything to control acid production?
  16. Julia that it AWESOME :Banane27: hang in there Diva! You've been doing so good. We all have our slow weeks. Well, I am pretty excited because I finally got my ticker working. I am not usually technically challenged and it was really irritating me. I had a bit of a breakthrough this week as I can now eat salad. You would not believe how exciting that is for me. I have really been missing it. I have a follow up this week with my doc and i am really interested in hearing what he has to say about my severe stomach acid issues. I'll let you guys know! Here are my stats: HW 248 SW 230 Last week-175.8 This Week-173 Net change this week-down 2.8#
  17. I am taking a blocker (omeprazole) and it certainly helps a lot, but it seems to be just keeping it back a bit. I haven't had a gastroscopy or a 24 hr pH monitoring (both sound pretty awful!). I think the gastroscapy is premature. I definately don't have a ulcer and I am taking the carafate to try and prevent that. The monitoring might really be helpful and I will talk to my doc about that. Thanks!

    Still in Pain

I am 4 months out and I was in pain for the first month. Each week got a little better, but honestly i was probably 2 months out before i really didn't feel any pain anywhere. Cherice
  19. Lisa...I was about 10 days out when I started getting hungry. I am now hungry pretty much all the time and have just gotten used to being in a constant state of hunger. When I eat (obviously very little) I am satisfied for a while and then i am hungry again. I'm not sure how many other people are hungry a lot, but I was surprised I felt this way! I'm glad the stomach acid seems to be going down for you. I am still having MAJOR stomach acid issues and am going in to see Dr. Alami for a follow up on Thursday. Congratulations on your weight loss Cherice
  20. The weight loss is impressive. I never could have done it alone! You are losing really well too. You've lost more than me, although I can't complain. It has been really steady for me. I was a little slow to START losing, but since about 3 weeks out I have consistently been 1-3# a week. Got to love it
  21. Hi there...checking in a day early because I know my week is going to be crazy. Down 1.9 this week. Julia and Settebee-that is an AWESOME weight loss! 64 oz water, really?

I have never even come close. I've never been a big water drinker and since surgery I am probably getting about 24oz a day. Which is more than I got before.
  25. I hope everyone had a great holiday and didn't eat too much! Here are my stats: HW 248 SW 230 Last week-182.2 This Week 180.3
