    Second post op visit

I agree with the last post. Don't get discouraged! You have done a lot so far with 54 pounds lost. I know that with my loss, I feel so much better, have more self confidence and energy and definitely like myself more now. Celebrate the fact you are moving in the right direction and don't let any tell you otherwise. Keep the faith, because you are better for the changes that you have made. PS-I go tomorrow to see my surgeon for my second post surgery appointment. I dare him to say something negative. I may say something as they took 13 vials of blood before the holidays and they haven't shared the results yet with me! Scooter Started 334 Sleeved 11/12/10 currently 252
  2. I too was able to have it right after surgery. It is my one 'vice' in life!
  3. I was sleeved November 11, 2010. I have now lost 81 pounds and no end in sight. Started this journey at 334 the day of surgery. I actually went to a conference last week, flew for the first time comfortably, no belt extender, could use the tray table, actually enjoyed the flight! As others have said, enjoying life so much more, no pain in the legs, knees, feet. Walked miles a day at the conference and was in great spirits all day. Enjoying so much that I have missed the last years, bowling, golfing, walks, swimming. It truly is amazing. I have so much more self confidence now than I have had in 30 years. I do workshops and retreats and was always lacked confidence due to my weight and look. NOW, nothing holding me back. I enjoy being in front of a group and presenting. It took me five years to work up the courage to have the surgery, to admit that I had food issues and needed help. Dieted for years, but yo-yo weight loss. I have been insulin diabetic for 10 years and was taking over 200units of insulin a day. Now I only take to meds and insulin as a correction. Most days I don't even take insulin! What a relief. Starting to eat different foods. Can't wait to be able to enjoy a salad and fresh vegetables. Have learned to cook better foods for the entire family. Totally appreciate this forum and everyones comments, thoughts, encouragement to each other. This has been the one place I continue to come back to for support! Sleeved Nov 11, 2010 Weight 334 Height 5'9" St Johns Moross-Detroit Dr. Meguid March 13, 2010 Weight 253 Total loss 81 Goal??????
  4. 1. When you can buy clothes in the 'regular' sizes and not BIG/Plus sizes. 2. you can actually tie your shoes and not just slip them on tied already. 3. your pile of clothes to give away is bigger than the pile that goes in your closet 4. two can fit in your winter coat (waiting to buy new ones until next winter) 5. Being able to sit in any chair and not worry about hitting the ground (especially the plastic deck chairs) Everyone of the comments in this section have been great. The Girl Scout cookie one though gets my vote as the best. My wife who also was sleeved this year actually works for the GS and so Cookies have always been a downfall. Don't tell anyone, but we didn't even buy any this year!

    Diabetes After Sleeve

Newbie: I am a type 2 diabetic for over ten years, taking two oral medications and two insulins a day. I too struggled with my health, diabetes, cardio issues, pain in my lower body. I had a A1C over 7 but my endocrinology doctor considered me under control before surgery. I was taking Lantus for basil coverage (90 units/day) and Apidra for fast acting (up to 125 units/day)! I weighed 334 at the time of my sleeve on Nov 10, 2010. Since surgery, I now weigh 253, having lost 81 pounds. I no longer take any oral diabetic medications (in fact I have dropped 10 of 12 meds!) and only take my fast acting insulin as a correction when over 200 bg. Most days I take NO insulin and on my worse day since surgery was 29 units! It takes time, but as the weight comes down, your diabetes will get better. My specialist tells me that she expects me to be off all medications for diabetes at my one year anniversary. It takes time, dawning was an issue for me for about 60 days (higher in the morning) but as I moved from protein shakes to soft foods and now a regular diet, I saw the changes in my diabetes. Let me know if you have any other questions, Good luck on your journey.
