Question for post sleevers!!
tntransplant06 replied to DazyKrazie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everybody is woken up with the tube down their throat. The good thing is, you won't remember it! I was told before surgery they would wake me up to take the tube out. After surgery, I asked why they didn't wake me up and the tube was out. I was then informed that they DID wake me up and the surgeon spoke to me for a few minutes after the tube was taken out. I remember NONE of it. I even said to the surgeon at my follow-up visit, "I heard you spoke to me after surgery, sorry, I hope you didn't say anything important bc I remember none of it". You are so fresh out of anesthesia that you won't even know you are awake. You will most likely fall back asleep and the next thing you'll hear is the recovery room nurse telling you to take some deep breaths. -
Just ate 4 oz of it, grilled....119 cal and 26 GRAMS OF PROTEIN!! Sweet!!!

Four days out of surgery and scared about hunger
tntransplant06 replied to EvRev's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's fine. I had the hunger at about that time and I still do. The best remedy for this, is eat a bite or two (you're on liquids now, so protein shake or soup) to "take care of the hunger". I'll eat breakfast at about 8a and my stomach growls around 10a. So, I'll take slice of deli thin turkey and eat it. That will hold me until about 12p when I should be eating lunch. I'll eat my lunch and sure enough at 2p I'm hungry again. I'll eat 2 cubes of cheese and it goes away. I've been doing this for 5 weeks now and have lost 31lbs so I think it's acceptable. I've also adopted the thinking that "It's only a hunger pain...you won't die from it, it's just a 'feeling' and you aren't going to be hurt from it". Try drinking something, too, that may help. I'd rather have this hunger pain (which is NOTHING like it used to be pre-surgery) than be 349lbs again. NEVER.GOING.BACK. -
Does anyone ever feel like we took the "easy way" out?
tntransplant06 replied to Brian66's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
WHO CARES!! I mean really, you couldn't lose the weight w/ out the surgery, you got the surgery and the weight is off. Who cares if it was easy or hard??? -
Stalling Already :(

Normal..work the diet, you'll have a better week next week -
I didn't have it happen, but on our surgery sheet it was listed as something that could happen.

Sleeved Together
tntransplant06 replied to caleybooth's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My husband and I were sleeved on the same day. I think it was much easier than doing is on different days. We didn't have to worry about each other while they were in surgery and we went through it together. I think you'll like your sleeve over the band. I hear it over and over on this board. Congrats. -
What laxative is safe at 2 weeks post op?
tntransplant06 replied to brazcan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe that is a question best posed to your doctor. -
First....YAY....today I am down 29lbs!! (4.5 wks out) When I eat Protein (soft deli meat, chicken, fish) my belly seems to get all angry. Doesn't really hurt, just makes lots of noises, only get about 3 bites down, feel fullness, more like a rolling gurgly fullness. Hard to describe. If I eat carbs (whole grain crackers, a slice of whole grain bread w/ pbutter, etc) my belly does not crab at me, it sits very nicely and I'm satisified. Does this seem right? I've read from you guys that carbs "slide" down nicely, so I'm wondering if that means it's a danger-food. LOL. I'm trying to stick w/ just protein b/c of the protein requirements ( I can't and won't do protein shakes). It seems that I can eat those 3 bites of protein and then my stomach starts growling and hurting and I'm hungry about 2 hours later. If I eat that pbutter and slice of bread, it stays full for an average of 4 hours. Just looking for your advice.

http://shrinking2011...01_archive.html I hope it's not boring, I'm not a very good writer, but I've begun documenting my process. It's not all flowers and fireworks, but it's honest.

Anyone have a food you sleeve didn't like???
tntransplant06 replied to Becca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried a tater tot and that made me hurl. Dang it! LOL. I haven't tried hamburger yet, but I did eat some very tender roast beef and that stayed down. Hormel makes some prepackaged/cooked meats that are in the meat section that are really good. They are cooked tender and taste pretty good. They have pork (which I haven't eaten yet), beef tips, beef stroganoff, and meatloaf. I've tried the last three and all were really good. -
Can I start mushies a day early?
tntransplant06 replied to DougNichols's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did, just puree everything. I did that for about 4 days and then I just chose really soft stuff and chewed it to a pulp. Just go slowly and stop before you are full. -
I, too, had a stare-down w/ that bottle! It took me about an hour, but I stood by the sink and sipped, bc I thought if I chugged I would puke. It just tastes really salty and kinda bitter. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I was not happy about having to take it. Good luck.

anxiety around food
tntransplant06 replied to faithstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think it's a bad thing. Did you see my post of the shit I ate on Monday??? Prob not, all carbs all day. Not too happy at the end of the day. The worst part was I didn't even enjoy them. So, back in the saddle the next day. I'm a carb junkie, but I'm going to beat it. I've discovered that carbs make me feel bad, like a downer, and I don't want that any longer. I feel much better not eating them. Will I never eat them again? no. Will I let it out of control again? Possibly. Go easy on yourself, I think your choice was not bad. They told me to eat whole grain bread...you did. That is awesome. I don't think that bit of jam will hurt. Just recognize what you did, acknowledge it and learn from it. -
PS>..I was fortunate that I didn't have to do a 2 week liquid protein diet, I probably would've been the same mentality as you. My doc only required 1 day and that was pretty tough. I feel for you, but just know it's so very temporary in the grand scheme of things. Keep your eye on the prize.

Part of me agrees with Susanne, but I must add that nobody knows what this is all about until it is over and done with. Everybody just wants to know what's it going to be like? The protein shakes ARE AWFUL. Stomach them as much as you can...let me tell you this recipe, it's the one I lived on bc it was the only one I couldn't taste the protein: 8 oz milk, 6 ice cubes, 1 scoop choc protein powder, 2 TBS Natural Peanut Butter. Blend up and drink. It's pretty good and it's the ONLY protein drink I'd drink. Just know that the protein drinks are only NECESSARY for the first month or so. When you move to real food you can eat protein bars and they are much better. I do have a feeling there is more to this story, though, than just drinking protein drinks. Just know that you WILL NOT be eating ever again like you do now. If you can't get beyond that, you may not be ready. It was something I was doubting, too, but I was MORE tired of being fat and unhealthy. I'm 4 weeks out and living on cheese, soft meats, and yogurt. I had a spell over the weekend that I ate carbs and it's over. I don't want to be fat any longer and I really found out I didn't miss the carbs, afterall. I ate them and it did nothing for me. Amazing coming from a carb addict. Search your soul and figure what you really want and be content with that decision.

I used to live in Michigan, moved to Tennessee, but had my sleeve done in Michigan a few weeks ago!! Mine was done in Detroit by Dr. Wood at DMC.

My reasons for secrecy...whether valid or not... 1) I didn't want people questioning me. "Am I sure I want to have this done???" I didn't want to explain 10 years worth of deciding that, yes, I'm finally ready. 2) I didn't want people talking about it when I wasn't around to defend myself. 3) What if it failed? (I know, highly unlikely) I didn't want people thinking "Wow, she's really got a problem, having surgery and still FAT!" BUT...with that said, my surgery was done almost 4 weeks ago and I'm not so secretive any more. Some people are noticing and I've just fessed up and I haven't had one negative response. Everybody is very happy and proud of my decision. I am, too. It's all been very supportive.

It will all be fine...you don't want to believe us, or can't believe us, but it WILL all be fine. It's a big change and it's totally NORMAL for you to be feeling this way. If you didn't, I'd question your sanity. Cry, yell, be mad, whatever, just get it out of your system, bc when you are done, you will be so happy and proud of yourself. It's really not hard at all, just a change. A good change. Keep your chin up and know you are doing the right thing. I expect to see a post on here after you are done....I'm watching you!

Ten days out and wow
tntransplant06 replied to Mike1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mike...I had that pain in my right side, too! It took about 2.5 weeks to go away. Did they give you a belly band to wear? That totally helped with my pain. That pain really stinks b/c it is quite limiting, and you're right, you feel normal except for that. Congrats on the loss, though, that is awesome! -
Thanks for adding me as a friend! Our stats look similar...although I'm older than you! LOL
