    I don't get the "don't eat bread"

Whole wheat bread is often recommended as a healthier alternative to white bread. However, do you know what the difference is? Wheat Bread Nutrition Facts Both white and whole wheat bread are made from wheat flour. Wheat berries used to make flour have three parts: the bran, the germ and the endosperm. White flour uses only the endosperm, while whole-wheat flour uses all the three parts, each of which contains nutrients essential for your health. Is Whole Wheat Bread Good For You? Whole wheat bread is much higher in fiber than white bread. Fiber aids digestion and most people are aware of this. However, fiber's benefits go beyond healthy digestion. Fiber helps you feel full and makes it easier for you to control your weight. Moreover, it has many health benefits. For example, fiber reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Warning: People with wheat allergy, gluten intolerance, or colitis should eliminate wheat from the diet. How can you tell if bread is whole wheat or not? Read labels. Look for "Whole Grain" or "Whole Wheat". If bread is labeled “Wheat Bread”, this does not mean that you get more nutrients. Bread can be made with a combination of white and whole-wheat flour. You do need to read the label.

    I don't get the "don't eat bread"

LISA...FYI wheat toast is the same as white bread. It has to be "whole grain". Learned this from my diabetic counseling a few years back. Check it out...and I think you're right...whatever works is what works and it doesn't work for everyone. Congrats on your success! Here's to everybody keeping on the downward trend. PS...I see it says you eat WHOLE WHEAT so you're probably eating the right thing.

    First bread

Ingredients 3 large eggs 1 packet of Splenda 1 dash salt 1 pinch cream of tartar 3 ounces cream cheese Direction Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Separate the eggs and add Splenda, salt, and cream cheese to the yolks. Use a mixer to combine the ingredients together. In a separate bowl, whip egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff (if you're using the same mixer, mix the whites first and then the yolk mixture). Using a spatula, gradually fold the egg yolk mixture into the white mixture, being careful not to break down the whites. Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray and spoon the mixture onto the sheet, making 6 mounds. Flatten each mound slightly. Bake about 30 minutes (You want them slightly softer, not crumbly). Let cool on the sheet for a few minutes, and then remove to a rack and allow them to cool. Store them in a bread sack or a ziplock bag to keep them from drying out.

    My Life Still Sucks

You need to visit a counselor/psych....when depression is there, you need to go see a doc. Most don't realize the strong emotional attachment to food that we all have and you need to be counseled through it. I am beginning my counseling next week (my surgery was 3.5 mos ago) bc I am realizing I have a food addiction. I am still losing weight, but I know something is not right in my head when it comes to food, so I want to try and get on top of it. Go see somebody and help yourself.

    Diabetes

Diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic in 2001. On Insulin ever since, gradually increasing dose. Switched to Lantus in 2010. Was taking 50 units in the evening. Surgeon here said I may not get off insulin completely as I've been on it for so long. Surgeon in another state that did my surgery said if anything I'd prob be on Metformin after surgery. I have not taken ANY diabetes medication since 3 days after surgery. My fastings are in the 80-90 range. Have to have my A1C this month, I'm expecting it to be below 6. This surgery was mainly to have my diabetes improved, so it is a success already. The weightloss is just icing on the cake.

    Backing Out of Surgvery

I have NO regrets....I wanted to run out of the pre-op room something awful, but what kept me there was thinking about my diabetes and how much insulin I was on and knowing my life would end sooner than I wanted to if I didn't do this. (3 days after surgery I was off insulin and my sugars are normal...my diabetes is GONE!) That being said about NO REGRETS, I will say that there are times when I'm in large gatherings that have food involved I feel a bit irritated or upset that I can't eat "like they are". But, really, what the hell?? IT"S ONLY FOOD! Probably b/c I've always had a huge appetite and it's a habit? I'm only 3.5 months out, so it's to be expected, I'll adjust as time goes by. Now, I just try to focus on socializing and not what's on the buffet table. So much time is wasted worrying if you're doing the right thing. Make a list of negative and positive read it over and over. I guarantee there will be many more positives listed than negatives. Have faith in your surgeon, he/she wouldn't be operating on you if they thought it wasn't a good idea. Obviously as this is their profession, they don't believe you will die on that table, or they wouldn't be doing the surgery as they'd quickly be out of a job. Really, if you've decided you've had enough and it's brought you to this surgery, than you're doing the right thing. Trust in yourself and trust in your surgeon. You'll be ok.

    Day 29: Seriously, though.

That post, while heartfelt, should have went Privately to crosswind. Not to be rude, but it's really nobody's business other than hers, as she felt upset. It's like you're trying to own the thread....sorry to sound rude.

    Mental Health

Just wondering what you would do if your insurance does not cover mental health? I think I need to speak to somebody about my issues with food (eating when not hungry, mainly) but a visit for mental health is $100/hr. I can't afford that as I'm still paying for my surgery that, guess what, insurance didn't cover! I'm trying to find an organization that may help with the cost, but have had no success. Any suggestions?

    4 Month Progress Pics

you look fabulous and YOUNGER...congrats and keep up the great work
  14. Well, I weigh before I go to bed and when I get up. Daily. Probably not the best thing from a mental perspective, but I feel it keeps me in check with what I will eat throughout the day.

    Mental Health

The problem with physician referral is that I had my surgery done in another state. BUT...I've just found a counselor that offers her services on a sliding scale payment basis. I feel like I've just hit the lottery! The psych around my home want $150/hr. Based on her sliding scale, I'll pay $40 for 50min. I'm so happy...I can't wait to go!

    Mental Health

I don't have answers. That's why I think I need help. I do need strategies to help with the urges and I want to know why the problem is there. I have ideas on why, but that's not curing the problem. I am often asking myself "What the hell is wrong with you??" b/c I know what I'm doing is wrong but I do it anyway. How do you overcome that urge that is so powerful that even logic can't beat it???

    Day 29: Seriously, though.

I love your posts. Period. I've printed this one and stuck it in a safe place. You are truly a gifted writer and your message is getting through (at least to me) I could have said a lot of this myself. Just not so eloquently. Thank you.

    Mental Health

Yes, I've tried County Health Dept and they don't offer anything. Do you think a counselor is appropriate or do you think Psychologist is necessary?
  20. Isn't that the greatest thing ever???!!! Same thing here...It was my main motivator for having surgery, although I must admit I didn't think it would help me b/c my fastings sucked w/out insulin. I was off insulin 3 days after surgery. My fastings are 89-95 every day!!!! So, this surgery is already a success in my book!!!

    Almost 3 months out

Try Theragran M Advanced vitamins....they are coated so they slide down really easily. Believe me, I cannot take horse pills, I gag them back up, these are on the large side, but the coating is the best thing! NEVER get stuck, and never come back up!
